Gairan was born during a terrible draught which seemingly caused the death of his father. However, rumours had it that the leader of the pride's ruling coalition (group of male lions who dominated over several prides' territory) had murdered his father. Unfortunately, with little proof, Gairan and his mother could not call for justice. This lead to the cub growing up with pent up anger and bitterness. It also made him paranoied, which devolved into him concluding that the only way for him to trust anyone and prevent injustice is if he controls everything.
