As for jewelry, the reason why Mai doesn't wear any is basically that they're shy. The country they live in is very big on jewelry and is regularly used as a symbol of their pride. It can be the pride of their family, job, identity, or experience. The bracelet represents what honorifics you use, rings represent your sexuality, and earrings represent your relationship status.
Bracelet - honorifics
- Gold: neutral honorifics
- White: masculine honorifics
- Black: feminine honorifics
- Gray: neopronouns/ ask me!
Earrings - relationship status
- Upper Helix: "Together with one self" AKA I'm single and not looking for a relationship thanks
- Single piercing on the earlobe: in a relationship
- Two piercings on the earlobe mean you're married. The earrings match your spouse.
Rings - sexuality
- White: into men
- Black: into women
- Gray: into none
