The Anger plays the main antagonist in the story "Irrashtional: S.O.S. Angler gone postal!".

Every year, Withermore is covered in a thick dark fog - it's become a strong tradition to light lanterns outside your home and then stay inside untill sunrise. This even is known as The Flood. It marks the day when the Abyss and this world clashes and on that night, The Angler pays his visit to Withermore.
His intentions and wants are a bit unclear. Initially, whne he kidnaps The Postman, the remaining cast fears he might be a hostile and ill-intended spirit. But that doesn't really overlap with what Odell remembers from his prior life. On top of that, they have a strong track record of finding out that most of the supernaturla beings they have dealt with has been reasonable in one way or another.
After searcihng around and piecing together information, Ian, Odell and Jones finds out that The Angler is a powerful cryptid, who really doesn't want anything ill. In fact, he wishes to protect others, mainly souls that cannot seem to find rest after their death. However The Postman isn't that dead as far as they know, so there must be another reason for his hostility.
It turns out that The Angler in particularly has a soft spot for people who feel restless due to betrayal. Over the years of seeing so many hurt, his temper gets the better of him and The Postman finds out that The Angler seems to be angry at particulraly Ian. Not because Ian has betrayed anyone, but because he seems like he could betray The Postman at one point. The Angler believes that Ian's personality and social standing potentially fuels an unhelathy power imbalance and that The Postman is too kind and soft to realize this. Therefor, he kidnapped The Angler, so he can be safe. It is a bit hard to communicate, when The Angler is mute and The Postman doesn't understand sign language. On top of that, The Angler is very stubborn.

By the end of the story, The Angler comes to terms with the fact that he can't judge and decide for The Postman. THough his intentions were good, he still kept The Postman away from the job he loves. He alos gets a better understanding of Ian and realizes thathis assumptions were wrong, that he shouldn't have judged Ian before he really got to know him. He leaves Withermore for another year in the Abyss, though stays penpals with The Postman.

Personality

The Angler is a mysterious and rather impatient cryptid. Whilst he wouldn't attack anyone and is generally very caring, he does show a temper and can be biased and quick in his decesions. Most of the time, he holds back and doesn't interact with others much, due to a general lack of trust, but if you show genuine care and kindness, as well as openess and honesty, he tends to melt quickly. Once you have his trust, he will help you with all his might, but be warned, if you betray that trust, he might lash out. He can and will bear a grudge forever, unless you are somehow forgiven.
His central character arc comes in "Irrashtional: S.O.S. Angler gone postal!", where his lack of trust and quick judgement is put to a test. He does as he thinks is best and has to realize that he was wrong. The Angler has to face the fact that his years of being protective and tending to the wounded has left him feeling rather jaded, but that now that he understands this, he can learn to soften up and trust others judgement a bit again.

Physical Abilities

  • Isn't affected by temperature shifts in a way that's debilitating.
  • Can understand any language

Magical Abilities

  • Will use Abyssal magic when he feels it is needed. These appear like strange shadow/smoke fish creatures.
  • The smoke f ihs pipe changes into simple symols, to help aid what he is trying to communicate, as The Angler doesn't seem to ever speak verbally.

Likes

  • Peace
  • Honesty and transparency
  • Going for walks
  • Raining
  • The Abyss

Dislikes

  • Insencerity or dishonesty
  • Sudden Physical contact - he does however seem alright with it, if you sk him and he trusts you
  • People talking ill about the souls he guards

Trivia

  • The Angler is by no mean usually hostile - in fact when Odell knew of him, he was a passive and greatly respected cryptid - some considered him a mini-deity.
  • He kinda makes any surface he walks on wet, as his coat and pants drips, like he constantly jsut walked out of the water.
  • Really large sudden sounds makes him panic, in part because he has gotten used to the Abyss being very quiet and slow. When he is stressed, he has a strong want to "drown the sounds out" and so he tends to use his Abyssal magic to create magical rushes of magic, swirling and rushing like the sound of a large river or a waterfall - He doesn't think too clearly when he is really upset.

The Postman

Friend

Even before and while the whole kidnapping thing was happening, the two of them got greatly along. The Angler couldn't care less for how The Postman looked and The Postman is veyr good at respecting people's physical and mental boundaries. The Angler is veyr soft towards beings that are kind and giving and easily taken advantage of, due to their gullible nature. Because of this, he felt instantly protective fo The POstman, whichcomboed with the stress of his own missiona nd then seeing glimpses of Ian, made him mad. That said, The Postman largely ressolves his own kidnapping, by explaining why it wasn't a good solution and that he feels sad by being taken away rfom his home and job. In the end, The Angler apologizes and they remains good friends. In the next stories, they still write to each other.
