Personality

When they were younger, they had a bubbly and outgoing personality, which often got them in trouble for just blurting out whatever they were thinking right at that time. Even though they never mean it in a harmful way, they more often than not hurt other‘s feelings by being brash. Though if you can stand them for longer, they tend to be more polite and their happy go lucky self. They were adventurous and brave, never backing down from a challenge.  They felt like there was nothing that they couldn’t overcome by themselves. But this independence led to them having difficulties accepting any help when they struggled or wouldn’t succeed on the first try.

Now that some years have passed and they understood how others tend to not like when they blurt out their honest opinion, they are quieter and more thoughtful about what to say, even though they still very much dislike lying. Though sometimes they slip and just say whatever comes to mind. Even though they are less bubbly and excited, their bravery and sense for adventure were never quite lost. They still enjoy to just walk wherever their feet take them and explore foreign places. Nivaine often dreams about traveling but has not yet found an occupation they truly love that would make this possible.

Yet it has also become harder for them to make actual friends, since they have become more introverted and shyer around others. However, the few they do value they will protect with their life, even though they are not afraid to disagree with their loved ones. Usually, Nivaine is considered the voice of reason since they are overall very grounded. For outsiders this might look distant or even like they are not caring but on the contrary. They want to bring out the best in others and are not afraid to give a reality check if needed.

History

  • Born to an upper middle-class family near the city of Faline, Nivaine was raised in a loving home by Nerva and Alrakis. They are fortunate enough to own a flourishing Inn that enabled them to live a comfortable life. As the only child, their Parents did have some expectations for them to take over their business and keep it alive, though that was not what Nivaine was looking for. They had a more aspirering dream of becoming part of the Order as soon as they developed an ability. Wanting to protect and fight for the safety of their home.
  • But they never really developed an ability like some of the other children. This made them work even harder on discovering if they had abilities, resulting in even more injuries than usual. After about a year they decided to give up and try to learn a different skill. For them it was gardening. They invested a lot of time into growing vegetables and flowers to support the Inn and slowly but surely got the hang of it. This effort was greatly appreciated by their parents, who still hadn’t given up hope on them taking over the business eventually.
  • After the birth of her only brother Kaveh at Age 12 the attention was mostly on him. Nivaine did not mind that at all. The pressure of following in their Parents footsteps was shifted and they could explore different directions, even though they greatly appreciated gardening for the Inn. It just was not enough, there still was this longing they had for a real profession.
  • At age 19 her Father Alrakis succumbed to an illness. This affected them deeply and they became more introverted as a result. Since their Mother was still looking after Kaveh, they started to help work even more in their Inn. Mostly they served Breakfast and Tea, sometimes taking care of cleaning the rooms and of course tending to the garden for fresh ingredients.
  • Their life changed when they got into an argument with a childhood bully that decided to stay at their Inn, rubbing in his position as a Mage. Being who they are, they stood their ground and it escalated. Using his magic to defend himself, Nivaine got hit, leaving them with a sizable wound. Letting all thet pent up anger and frustration go Nivaine retaliated again, firing using the same magic. But they never had been able to use magic before? It was the same kind that bully used on them. They asked themselves how it was possible. After many sleepless nights and some testing, they finally connected the dots. Niviane still does not know the extend of their abilities and is now unsure of what to do.

Their magic ability is a passive one. They do not generate any outward magical power themselves, instead they recreate whatever magic is used on them. The output strength is determined between the raw energy used to cast the specific spell and their own magical aptitude. Meaning that even if their own power would allow a more refined copy of a specific spell, the initial strength used to cast the spell on them can not be surpassed.

Nivain considers this more of a curse, since the abilities they gain are only temporary and may only last from an hour for greater to a day for smaller spells. Nivaine must take into consideration, that every spell has to be used on them first, which can be endangering to their life. Furthermore, it can be exhausting and overwhelming for them to be around passive magic abilities.

Costs

1 Point Costs: Passive Spells

  • Magic fatigues the Caster: When beeing around magic that is just passively used, they get overwhelmed and exhausted at a higher rate even if they do not use the ability.

2 Point Costs: Small to intermediate Spells
  • Magic is painful for the user: Gaining an ability is most often painful.
  • Magic use has a long-term adverse effect on the caster's mood/frame of mind: They dread big crowds and conflict, since it mostly brings them pain.

3 Point Costs: Advanced Spells
  • Magic does permanent physical damage to the caster: Powerful Spells will leave permanent wounds and scars or are life threatening to aquire.
  • Magic has a severe adverse mental effect on the caster: Effect yet to be discovered
