About

Quiet • Haunted • Snarky • Bookworm

Overall, Dimi is mostly refined and well-mannered... to a fault. He isn't very open about his emotions and opinions, but he's incredibly prone to getting worked up and snappy. He loves reading and magic, and researched deep into alchemy and dark arts in the past. Though he is isolated and doesn't trust others, he values life pretty highly and refuses to kill another being, and animals only for survival. That's how he convinces himself he is human and far different from his vampiric progenitors. Dimi's honestly just a freckled nerd haunted by his long life and clinging hard to his human origins despite barely remembering his experience as one.

History

Dimi was a noble son of a lord, born Vladimir Argeste in the barony of Etton, to the extent of his memory. His domain got into a war with a nearby vampire clan, and his family was overthrown. They took the land and held any living humans hostage, including Dimi. The ruling family that lead the rest of the local vampire population was the Yasmidan, a high-living pureblood lineage with great ability and prestige. One of the heirs of the Yasmidan head took a liking to Dimi, and turned him into a pure vampire, then kept him as a toy. Dimi doesn’t remember his human life all that well, or even how or when his parents and siblings would have died. But he does remember his time captive vividly.

He was basically seen as a possession and treated like a stuffed animal (not to mention he was his owner’s prime food source). He’d be by the Yasmidan heir’s side most of the time, or stuck inside his room when he was away. He’d be cuddled and coddled, and his hair was often played with and given attention because the vampire was so intrigued by the red color. His polite manners were reinforced, but he was treated with lots of care. Everyone was kind to him, but it was more like he was being spoken to as if he was a walking talking doll.

Due to his empathy for life and humans due to being one until recently, he refused to drink blood at first. But after a while of avoiding food, the reality of what may happen to him sunk in after many education sessions and the pain of hunger set in. Though he was aware of the consequences, he really only gave in after being forced into a room with human prisoners. He was left there until his bloodlust took hold and caused him to murder the people in an uncontrollable rage associated with vampire starvation. Having been thoroughly scarred by this experience, he never went hungry since. He was always provided plenty of human blood before he even realized he needed it, and he was kind of glad he wouldn't have to feel that hunger again. For all he knew, though, the blood source was probably the previous townspeople of his family land.

When it came to humans, or even other pure vampires, he didn’t come across many. When he did, it was only glimpses or under no communication circumstances. For all of his time, he was limited to only being inside of buildings, which included the vampire cave city and his own previous family castle. When traveling between the two, he was usually knocked out with magic or in a veiled carriage with his owner, and tightly guarded so he wouldn’t try to escape. Between those places, he’d only been in his owner’s room or visitation room, or in large crowds of pureblood vampires. He didn’t get to see the sun or another human for decades.

He did pass the time by getting education and reading vampire books, and would even sneakily steal magic books, read it quickly, then return it before anyone noticed. This love for reading and knowledge as well as a need for quickness led to his quick reading and comprehension skills, and a thirst for non-vampiric novels once he returned to the outside world. After all, vampires were pretty cut off from other races save for pure vampires, so more often than not their books were within their own culture and demographic.

At some point, he had been with the Yasmidan family long enough to be considered part of it. He hadn’t attempted escapes, due to having his craving for knowledge satiated by his owner, and he remained a polite and good boy. He was allowed the ritual of being branded with the family sigil, the one all pureblood vampires of the family had, and it would connect him eternally with them. This was around the time he began to think about how long eternity really was, and the worth he gave his own life.

Dimi grew sick of his never-changing surroundings and being treated like a pet by everyone he had ever met. He missed the sun and the times he had remembered in nature. He missed animals like horses and birds. He wanted new books, and his family couldn’t provide a big enough diversity. He wanted to think for himself again, and escape this life as a doll. Having gained their trust, and with the family mark on his neck to prove it, he was able to freely roam different rooms without anyone questioning his intentions. Dimi stole a large supply of human blood for himself, other supplies he may have needed, then plotted out his escape from the fortress before putting it into action. As he was highly trusted by the family, and was able to freely explore the place to learn everything he could, he managed to leave covertly on his first attempt. Dimi didn’t look back and got as far as he could from his previous home.

Post-Escape

What he learned from his family was that humans, and all other species that lived with them, feared vampires and would kill them on sight. He was prepared for a life of solitude, and knew what he was getting into before making his decision. Eventually, while searching places that were safe distances away from villages, he came upon a derelict mansion in the hills. Dimi fixed it up and made it home. He would rarely ever wander close to any civilization, save for when he needed to stockpile supplies or get rare ingredients that he couldn’t find in the wild.

After his experience with pureblood that made up the majority of his life, he came out polite but untrusting. He did see the good in people, but wanted to avoid contact at all costs due to the fear chiseled into him. He did, however, turn out slightly bitter when it came to social contact, because he wanted to freely speak his mind after so long. And his mind? Well-mannered but low-tolerance, since he wanted only what was best for himself. Though, it turned out he was weak and defenseless when it came to knowledge and magic. He'd helplessly toss away his social fears at any hint of learning something, and was surprisingly eager to talk with those who were skilled. Pureblood vampires who humored his interest in magic happened to be more honest and approachable, and his experiences in comfortably talking to them were carried into his time in isolation. With that said, the one thing he couldn't tolerate from anyone was being touched, as he had been through enough cuddling to last him an eternity. He also wasn't comfortable resting in any place that wasn't comfy and soft, as he was used to having great furnishings and being well-kept, and liked keeping up that standard for himself. Which was to say that he was especially grouchy and lethargic any time he had to be in an uncomfortable place, even after having adapted to it. He also abhored his red hair due to his past owner’s fixation with it, and dyed it completely black to cover it up whenever he could.

Dimi lasted quite a while on his stockpile of blood stolen from the purebloods, especially since he didn’t need much nor did he need it frequently after adapting to strict rationing. An unexpected friend amid his isolation even created blood with magic to restock his supplies. Eventually, he did end up running out again (bc the friend died, u knOW WHO U ARE, hoW COULD U), and he decided to try an animal blood lifestyle (after learning husbandry from said friend) after coming to terms with how immortal he really was. It was still a plausible food source, albeit not as good, but it could work, right? Nope, he couldn't live off of it alone for very long. But he refused to hunt humans, especially after experiencing that one circumstance where he was forced to brutally slaughter people. While running out of options and becoming more resolute in his goal to never kill again under any circumstance, he came up with a plan to trap himself inside a barrier so he wouldn't harm any living creatures upon reaching berserk starvation mode. That is, after having tried and failed to end his immortal life multiple times already. And that begins an incredibly unlucky journey outside of his house.

Going Outside

Gonna write a lil summary here eventually,,

Trivia
  • Originally has red hair, but dyes it black
  • Avoids social contact if he can, but in actuality is quite lonely
  • Has lost most feelings of empathy toward others, but convinces himself to care in fear of losing his humanity
  • Though he used to be very proper, isolation- and now leaving his comfort zone- has made him more lax and honest
  • He will find any window possible to revert back to hikikomori mode
