Profile
Kei (Tsuchida) Sakurai
THEME
Introduction · · ·
Kei became an orphan at 15 years old; old enough to understand the severity of what was happening. This only compounded his serious nature. He's the type that's all work and no play, not understanding how to relax. There's always work to be done, and Kei prefers to see to it personally.
He's rarely found at home. Kei works in an upper-class restaurant, busting his ass to make money to pay off both his aunt for housing him and his little sister as well as to pay for Aiyana's needs. He's the type to shoulder everything alone; but don't let that serious nature scare you off. He's willing to give you the shirt off his back once he cares about you. You just really have to work at it!
- baking
- hot baths
- like-minded people
- being interrupted while working
- unreliable people
- more than anything, hates religion
Personality · · ·
If Kei was to be summed up with a saying, it's definitely 'all work and no play.' His serious nature mixed with his rather cold exterior makes it difficult for others to want to approach him. He's aware of this issue, and makes no attempts to change it. After all, he's a busy man. His social life basically doesn't exist, and that's quite okay with him! He's a big introvert, and thinks that's quite okay.
Don't let that fool you though. Under that stony exterior is a kind man who would shield you from the world if he had to. His love runs deep, and the wounds he's willing to bear to keep you safe are undeniable. His ability to juggle multiple tasks, how well he can work under stress and pressure, and his ability to tunnel onto a goal without being shook is unmatched. Kei will achieve his goals.
COMMITTED
If Kei deems it worthy, he'll devote his very being to the subject. His loyalty is unshakeable, and is a gift to treasure if you ever gain it personally from him. To the person he'll love, he'd give his very soul to.
OPINIONATED
Kei has an opinion on everything, and doesn't really care if you agree or not. You're entitled to your opinion- even if it's wrong. He tends to dislike more things than like them, and that can be grating. But at least you always know where he stands.
PASSIONATE
Hobbies are far and few between for Kei, but cooking and especially baking are perfect displays of his passions. When he loves something, he's not shy to voice it. His desire to perfect the subjects he's passionate about is unwavering; and the people he's devoted to will feel that fiery love from the bottom of his heart.
FOCUSED
If anybody can pull off the long-con, it's Kei. Maybe his desired outcome will take weeks, months- maybe even years! He doesn't care. Once his mind is put to something, he'll keep it up for as long as he needs to. You can't easily shake him, and even if you do- he'll eventually find himself back on that path, focused and energized to keep going forward.

I won't be home until late. Dinner is already made and in the fridge- you remember how to heat it up, right, Aiyana?
Trivia · · ·
Backstory · · ·
Kei was born into the Tsuchida household; the older of two siblings. To the world, they were a devout and loving family. Kei has strong memories of his parents preaching odd teachings- things he realized that his peers weren't learning. Why did nobody else know about the Spirit World? About the Devil King and Devil Queen who needed to reclaim their rightful place? Over time, he learned to keep his questions to himself and quietly learn. He hardly remembers the shrine they worshipped at though- the family moved to a snowy town in Hokkaido at a young age.
He recalls his parents telling him to befriend certain kids- and he did try! He'd bring home the tales of their experiences and knowledge. All about ghosts and demons- and how to purify them. His younger sister, Aiyana, would take an interest in these stories. He'd tell them to her day and night, and they were great escapes from what was happening around them. Often times his shaky voice would almost be drowned out by his parents yelling and throwing things at one another.
The most solace he'd find was when he was away from his family. On the way to the shrine, his parents would drop him off with his aunt. If memory serves him right- it was not long after Aiyana was born, that he was no longer toted to the shrine. At first, he was bitter with his baby sister; but his aunt constantly reassured him that it was that damn shrine that was tearing them apart.
This is where his strong disdain for relgion spawned from. And it skyrockted when he was awoken at the age of 15, to a terrible pain in his stomach. His consciousness fluttered in and out, feeling the warm liquid leak from his body, fighting the pillow off his face. He could hear his father's panicked cries and his mother's crazed grunts. He'd awake hours later, in a hospital bed, police raining down on him to ask for a statement.
Should he tell them about the shrine? That he'd been intercepting mail between his parents and the Miyatas? That Aiyana was special- like a god? Or more accurately, like a devil? In the end, the public knew it only as a tragic domestic violence situation. His aunt whispered quietly, "They know your last name. They'll come for Aiyana." It was then agreed between the two that not only would they fight to stay together, but that they'd change their last name to Sakurai- even if unofficially.
Years later, Kei would wonder about the shrine. How it was doing, if his memory served right. He'd go right up to the gate, and feel the pit in his stomach tell him that the shrine was right on track with their plan... and he promptly turned around and left. Sadly, the address he crudely scribbed was the piece Aiyana needed to follow his trail and find herself striking up conversation with the very people he protected her from all these years.
The Spirit World · · ·
Kei has visited the Spirit World since he was 10 years old. At a younger age, he didn't visit as often. As he grew into his teen years, and the stress mounted, he found his deep slumber plagued by this nightmare. It was in this unusual world that he discovered he had a talent- to see how long a person has to live. He had once told a man he only had a week to live. A couple of days later, the man appeared again. His life was extended by years. "I didn't want to go with my friends to the forest. I told them I couldn't go." The man's friends died in a car accident. He had the power to change others' ultimate deadly demise... at least, a bit.
When he discovers Aiyana has been going to the Spirit World lately, his stress spikes and he finds himself there often now.
Asterays · · ·
A small, humble shrine that seems to be an alternative religion. Their numbers are small, but it appears like any other place of worship. Kei won't sugarcoat it; it's definitely a cult. He could remember many of the scriptures and teachings they preached, but there was more to it that he can't quite remember. Or maybe, the general followers just were never taught. He knows they want- no, need Aiyana.
He has a deep running hatred for all relgion, but it's all because of this tiny shrine hidden in the tangle of buildings in a small town.

His big brother instincts are in high gear and he's very protective of his little sister. He knows he can be harsh or strict on her, but he only wants her to do her best. Sometimes he acts more like a father than a brother, but that's fine. He can pick up the slack his parents dropped on him. He'll be her caretaker, and ensure her happiness.
They may butt heads, but they get along! He really hates it when boys talk to her, though. Boys are gross.
