One of the older Ultimates, and a more ridiculous looking one too; after all, how often do you see an MIA Detective wearing a bright red coat and black cat ears? Well, you don’t! Unless you meet Karasu in person!

His rise to fame was a slow journey, as he left to Tokyo to study Criminology and was hired by an office there too, under Yuzuki Tani. Specialized in cases of kidnapping, hostages and missing people, Karasu is a number one! Whatever case he takes, he always works hard to solve it, or solve it in his definition; a ‘success’ in his book is when everything was learnt about the case - so even if the person winds up dead, so long they have told the client everything and gave them closure, that’s a case solved.

Though, there’s no doubt that Karasu has more burdens than some of their coworkers - their nihilism and rudeness keeps everyone at an arm's distance; except their cats, that they love more than anything else.

Appearance

Karasu certainly doesn’t look like a Detective, much more a Detective whose speciality are hostage and missing people situations. The first thing that attracts attention is his fluffy, bright blond hair - a courtesy of his mother’s side of the family being German. Additionally, he has sapphire-blue eyes along with several scratch scars on his face.

Going down, he wears a black-and-white vest. Underneath it, he wears a shirt made from bullet-resistant compound, making him safe from most of average glocks and pistols. On top of it all, he wears a bright-red, trench coat with a high collar and reaching over to his ankles. For his legs, he wears a pair of worn down jeans, with one of its sleeves rolled up; to that, tall boots and voila!

Well, with the exception of his most defining features; his black, cat ears and tail. Don’t worry, they aren’t real, as they are simply a headband and decoration respectively. He doesn’t say why he wears them, but if anyone would question his talent because of it, they are ready to prove them just how wrong they are.

Personality

Karasu is a splitting image of an aloof Detective. He dislikes public interactions and prefers to work on his own - though, they are capable of teamwork when the situation requires it. Though, not many can deal with him due to his cynicism. If the chances are low, he will let you know that he thinks this will be a failure(most of the time, he is correct); some people started believing that he’s psychic because of that.

And yet, despite the fact that they are often rude and unpleasant to be around - especially due to that smoker stench - there is a reason why they still hold their title. They are very logical and honorable, always making sure that their cases are closed and everything is resolved. To some extent, they are a workaholic, but it’s mostly to distract themselves from looming thoughts. After all, after being in the field filled with death, hostages and sorrows, it does take a toll - even on the strongest ones.

They are also a clean freak - in a positive sense; their house and workplace is always clean, gun oiled and hair washed. They despise messes of any sort

Creation Origins

Karasu has a longer story than you'd expect. He was one of my oldest OCs, who at the time was called Kataki Oken. He was a Defence Attorney from The Kingdom of Khura'in and the main support in my Ace Attorney fanfiction. When I got into DR, I made him into an Ultimate Defence Attorney who had cat features due to genetic mutations. At the time, I didn't know how common that trope was(the trope of 'person is experimented on and becomes an animal hybrid') and even when that didn't apply to Kataki, I was still bullied relently due to that. That's when I decided to scrap him and never look at him again.

I decided to bring him back for my 'Takanasian Arc', as there he was deaf upon birth, and was able to hear thanks to custom made hearing aids, that looked like cat ears. However, I scrapped him there too due to having too many characters in that arc. But he was brought back! This time as a broody detective that behaves his age. He had a tough journey, but he's here now and I'm glad I brought them back!

Roleplay Experiences

Starless Hope: Space Escape

Karasu was trapped alongside other participants on a space station, but they themselves were not bothered by the killings - they are a detective after all, they are used to blood and grime. However, due to being over the edge due to the motive in Chapter 2, they snapped. They met a hermit who has barely left their room, but this time they had a knife. They were talking about gruseome things, and how they were gonna use the motive in order to escape while killing Karasu's closest thing to a 'friend' there.

It was then that they snapped, trying to take the knife away from them. However, due to there beign as truggle and them being near stairs, the two tumbled down. While Karasu was awake, Cyrille was not, causing them to panic. They quickly took them to the infirmary in order to try and save them, but it was too late. With the host nurse next to them, they decided to simply end their suffering and stabbed them, before being patched up and taken to their room. Their murder was discovered and figured out, but they were forgiven by the cast, meaning that instead of dying they were only severily injured - arriving two chapters later, they lost their left arm, had struggles with talking and walking. They had survived the rest og the game, trying to assist with cases as much as they could even if their good intentions were often taken wrongly.

Yuzuki Tani

Karasu's boss! Their dynamic is somethign aking to a divorced couple, as Karasu usually wants to be left alone while she teases and annoys him. And yet, the two of them hold deep respect for each other. Bah, at times he even asks her for help with Ichiko, to the point people joke that the two of them should marry to give Ichiko a mother.

Ichiko

Karasu's adoptive daughter! Karasu doesn't talk about her a lot, but whenever someone sees the two of them togehter, they can see that they are trying their best to be a good parent to her. Even if they make mistakes, they mean well and are trying their best to improve just for Ichiko to have a good life.

Olive Sauce

In a Magical Girl AU, Karasu had encountered Olive Sauce in his restaurant, in order to tell him that he knows who he is. They fought, yelled but eventually teamed up. I liked that dynamic so much that I decided to move it here, and so they are dating in an au where both of them are alive and meet up in Hope's Peak.

Trivia

• He was brought back and revamped from my old OC who was an Ultimate Defence Attorney;
• Karasu is the oldest DR OC that I have, sitting at age of 36;
• The reason he wears cat ears and tail is because that was one of the only ways he could have calmed down his daughter whenever she would be crying.
