To put it simply, he is me. Or rather, he is all the worst parts of myself. I created Max as a character that I can project on to. He is a reflection of all my pent up rage, years of repressed emotions, my youth's internalized homophobia, my ego, and the parts of me that yearn for something great, for meaning and purpose in life. Max has lived many lives, he's been different versions of himself, and yet, he still has no idea what the purpose of it all is. Maybe we do really just exist to suffer. I try to answer questions about myself through him, like can we ever really be happy? Even when you have everything, you still feel hollow and empty, so does it even matter? An optimist would tell you, yes, it does. What matters is living in the moment and cherishing it, but I'm not an optimist and neither is Max. Perhaps one day I can find all the answers I'm looking for through him, and maybe we can both grow together to become better versions of ourselves.
