Mike grew up in Texas.  He was the oldest of two children. His family would visit almost daily growing up and Mike would have to take care of his younger sister as well as his little cousin Noah. He also helped his mother, Bessie, around the house since his father always working or sleeping. He claims that when he was younger he was "a loser and pretty rotten kid that created his own hotbed of problems, some thought he'd end up in jail." Although he did not succeed in education, he learned a lot about life while growing up. He first saw the power of music when he attended local concerts. He was amazed at the power of how the sound of a guitar could move people physically and emotionally. He wanted to do that!  At the age of twelve, Mike's parents bought a second-hand guitar for him. He practiced by copying the guitar players and tried to repeat a few of the records lying around the house. Occasionally, between all the country stations he could pick up a blues station on the radio and he'd try to memorize the songs.  He became good at the guitar and one day the idea popped into his head that he wanted to be that famous guy on the stage that moved folks. 

Mike's Personality + Relationships

Mike is the introverted “smart one” of the Prairee Chikenz, he's also the designated leader of the group and father figure, which means he's looking out for his boys at all times. His level-headed thinking skills, conviction for the greater good of everyone, soft-spoken cadence and calm thoughtful nature helps Mike acquire gigs for the band as well as pull them out of bad situations. He's very loyal and protective of his bandmates and this crusader mentality extends to help disadvantaged folks who are being wronged by corporations or government. His motto is to always do the right thing and to help the underdogs in need. 

At parties, he's usually a wallflower observing everyone else having fun, he's not one to dance. Those who are not his bandmates make him feel uneasy and socially awkward as he tries his best to be a likable sociable person. He often  uses silly gestures to help communicate with others in these situations.  For example, he punches others lightly in the arm when trying not to seem offensive while making a blunt remark to soften the blow. He often  crosses his arms and his body language usually shrinks inward and he  speaks in a hesitant way, making him appear nervous or closed off to others. He's easily nervous in confrontations with those who are bigger in stature or importance, but his conviction gives him courage. When he realizes he's in danger of bodily harm, he immediately shrinks inward and becomes jumpy, fidgety, anxious, and begins to stutter; covering his mouth or face with his hands in hopes of not getting hurt. 

Mike is the one that his bandmate and family most commonly go to for comfort, and even if he’s not always affectionate, he will try his best to comfort them but he knows that isn't his strong suit. Mike main love is only music and Mick's main love is surfing (and then music), but they've become so closely bonded with each other that they can easily have discussions without logic becoming distorted. Both see the destruction that Davy's amorous feelings can cause to the wellfare of the band, and how Peter is oblivious to the situation when he's in trouble.  Mike does worry about Peter's well-being, but most often he has one metaphorical hand pulling Davy out of trouble and another hand pulling himself out of the same situation, so he hasn't anything left to save Mick or Peter most of the time. This leaves Mick to focus on keeping an eye on Peter. Mike is a  parental figure to Peter and Davy, but spends most of  his time talking with Mick and Davy. If there were an intelligence scale, Mike would be at the top, Mick and Davy would be upper-mid range,  and Peter would be near the bottom; this means that Mike and Peter have a hard time communicating and their interests are drastically different. But the love of music often brings Mike and Peter together.

Soulmate: Mike met L.C. (pronounced Elsie) because she is Peter's sister (second oldest sibling). They both understood what it was like to grow up quickly due to taking care of siblings. As a kid, LC raised herself and had complete responsibility for taking care of her oldest brother, Peter, keeping watch over him. When The Prairees were formed, that responsibility passed to Mike, and then eventually to Mick. Mike secretly was smitten with her but he never let on that he was. After all, it was an odd situation that they found themselves in, as the only thing bridging the gap between them was their concern for Peter. He wasn't sure if she'd blow him off, so he stayed formal with her whenever they met at social gatherings. Eventually, L.C. came to see her brother's band perform because she was interested in what he was doing. Peter said on the way over that L.C. was "acting weird, all nervous about seeing you for some reason." Mike looked into the front row of the audience, and saw her sitting there, all dolled up and wearing a bright red dress. That night, he nervously sang "You Just May Be The One", "Propinquity", "The Kind Of Girl I Could Love", and "Of You".

Mike Facts

Mike's life is like a two-sided coin. One side is the savvy  guitar-playing Texan in a band and the other side is a secretive scientist. After testing various potions on himself first, a third side of himself emerged; a Hyde-like alter ego named Vialetor (vy-leh-taur), which lended super strength. He also created power-inducing potions to close friends and gave experimental long steel claws to Paul, both were done to subdue a kaiju ancestor that had possessed Stacy ( Paul's gf) who was running rampant through the town.

Art Inspiration: Mike's appearance is based on a 90s Disney Store "Scamp" plush, and his personality is loosely based on Mike Nesmith (TV character) of The Monkees.
