About Peter

Peter is a sweet precious cinnamon roll that is all about peace, love and understanding. However he's a bit of a ditz whose often unaware of his surroundings and the goings-on. His positive happy-go-lucky attitude tends to rub off on his few close friends, who see beyond his clumsy ditzy side to see the kind, good-natured individual underneath. In general, most know to avoid him because he is impulsive, he lives in the moment and therefore doesn't think of the repercussions of his actions that sometimes snowball to hurt others. Despite this, a few girls tend to mother him as though he were a child, which means he's always friend-zoned. He tries more than most to be friends with others, but his reputation of being a ditz precedes him and his shortcomings often pop up to ruin any opportunity for friendship. All he can do is strive to be the best version of himself and hope that someone will see it. All of Peter's emotions bubble up to the surface, he can never hides the way he feels in the moment.

Born in Tigville, Peter accidentally progressed westward to California where the music was happening, teaming up with other musicians as he went. However, musicians came and went because they weren't willing to have him around due to his lack of common sense.  After living the life of a starving artist by sleeping on a friends couch to play at local events, he eventually lost the couch and lived on the street, busking to afford a return ticket home to Tigville. There he heard about Mike Nez through his friend, Micky, who he had met on the bus ride back from California. When they arrived home, Micky convinced Mike that Peter could be quite an asset to the band because he happened to be an excellent bass, piano and banjo player. Peter auditioned for Mike and was accepted into The Prairees.

The bands "family dynamic" is that Peter and Davy are like kids (always getting themselves into trouble) while Mike and Micky are like their parents (giving advice, solving problems, getting gigs, rescuing the kids). Mike's tough love and lack of emotional support is hard on Peter.  He doesn't always understand Mike's metaphors or euphemisms when he attempts to explain something to him, but he tries so hard to make Mike proud. Peter follows Mike's advice as best as he can, but try as he might, he often misunderstands, messing up multi-step instructions or forgetting important details which means that Mike must jump into the situation to correct every mistake that Peter makes. Peter enjoys being around Micky because he does not feel controlled or burdened with details. Micky will lightly advise him during a situation because he understands just how sensitive Peter is and knows the best way to course-correct him onto the right path.

Peter has few jobs in the house. He mostly causes chaos. Micky knows that whenever something is missing, it's probably in Pete's oddball collection of junk.

Trivia

Neurodivergent: Peter is definitely neurodivergent. He remains completely undiagnosed because they aren't aware of such things in his world/timeframe. As any undiagnosed individual, he uses skills that he's discovered himself to make life easier. He's not very good with social cues and doesn't seem to understand sarcasm or a few metaphorical phrases, but he knows how to play several instruments very well, the best in his band.

Honest to a Fault: He doesn't understand the point in lying and he certainly wouldn't remember to stick with the alibi story if he'd told one. Unfortunately this means that he'll tell an antagonist exactly what they want to know.

Can't Tell Friends from Enemies: Pete usually can't tell a friend from an enemy so he goes around treating everyone equally, with an upbeat attitude, helpful assistance and a kind smile. He will see a person's unfriendly reaction towards him and think they are being rude for no reason. Mike, Micky or Davy often have to shine a negative light on the person for him to see it and sometimes they have to say the problem too, because he saw it a different way than they did. This makes him a very gullible and naive guy, so he often gets targeted and used by people he thought would be kind.

Shows Emotions So Openly: His face shows a wide range of child-like emotions. His default emotion is the happy little flower child, spreading sunshine and enjoying life. But his emotions run so deep within himself that he can't mask what's inside. When he is sad, his entire face contorts and tears stream down his face as he looks to others for comfort. When he's frustrated or mad, he wants to do something about it, but he often doesn't know what to do, at which point the other fellas will help him if its bad enough or they will talk him down from being upset if it's not worth the trouble. If he's by himself, most times he'll passively brush off what the other person did, but on a very rare occasion, if he's been burned too many times to cry anymore, he'll turn vindictive. His revenge is usually not planned in any regard, a thought pops up in his head and he runs with it. Usually it's as simple as "They'll pay for what they did to me." This means it can end two ways.. that the impulsive idea is too clunky to work and he fails.. or his anger carries him over every obstacle and he lands the winning payoff. But, most of the time, he loses.

Strange things he does: Chewing paper, Stealing pocket-sized items with fun textures like cat toys  (fuzzballs, crinkle balls, feathers) because they feel and look cool.  Stealing the household mail to use it for Peter-minded things. Mind you, I don't want him to be drawn doing these things, it's just a character point.

Art InspirationPeter's personality is loosely based on Peter Tork (TV character) of the 1960s TV show "The Monkees":
