Charles is incredibly naive and optimistic. He is the only one in the group who isn't a complete asshole, and he is often relied on to deescalate situations. Charles is very charismatic and has great people skills due to his past profession. However, he is very sensitive, and can be driven away during a cycle easily. Charles is strong and usually fights with melee weapons or his bare fists. He cannot shoot a gun to save his life, although Cam gave him a very nice shotgun to hold on to. He is a bit of a doormat to everyone else in the group and is usually taken advantage of whenever someone needs something. He talks a lot and doesn't have an easy time reading a room, making him very annoying to Cam especially.

Charles was a bartender at a gay bar in Washington State before the Apocalypse. He knew Gregg well, as he would come in on Friday nights to get wasted and end up talking to Charles for hours. When the Apocalypse hit, Charles and Gregg were at the bar together. They got out safely, and Charles stopped to help as many people as possible. However, he almost got killed in the process. Charles is very selfless, and jokes around a lot. He is strong from working out, but the others in the gang use this to their advantage by making him carry all of the heavy supplies. Charles does not often use weapons, and has no idea how to shoot a gun. Instead, he chooses to use his fists even though he knows that puts him at risk for infection. Charles loves the others in the group, but Gregg is his favorite person. They often talked about their lives after the bar closed, and Charles could swear that there was something there. He almost asked Gregg out, but then the world ended and all. Then Landon got to him first. Charles is happy with Landon, but he doesn't like how Gregg avoids him whenever Landon is near. He just wants things to go back to the way they were.
