Profile

King Minkley is more like a dictator than a king.

King Minkley wants to take over all of the kingdoms.

King Minkley has two biological sons (Prince Miles and Prince Milligan) and a step-son. His step-son is Ryker.

King Minkley makes everyone call him 'Your Highness,' even his relatives.

A controlling, dictator-like king who is afraid of being perceived as weak. He tries to come off as regal and poised, not wanting him subjects to see his weaknesses. Even years afterward, he's vengeful after his first wife's death, and he blames her death on the Kingdom of Arwyn. He does care for others to some degree, but he usually doesn't let himself get close to others. After his first wife's death, he grew to be self-absorbed, believing that his drive for vengeance is what she would have wanted.

King Minkley is generally rude, unforgiving, controlling, and greedy. Despite this, he still loves his two biological sons and his deceased wife. He's kind to his current wife, who he's known since childhood, but his love for his now-deceased wife is much stronger. He doesn't feel as close to Ryker and he thinks that he should toughen up, but he finds him tolerable enough. He doesn't get very close to anyone and instead is very self-absorbed (mainly due to self-pity over his first wife's death), though he wasn't always this way. He doesn't care much for other people's problems anymore, but he'll help his subjects from time to time if he finds it necessary and to keep them from rising up against him.

King Minkley was similar to Shogun when he was young. He didn't want the responsibility of ruling, so he ran away. However, he eventually was found and brought back to his parents. After this point, his parents considered him weak for giving up on ruling and running away, so they treated him a lot tougher than his brothers. He wanted desperately to be perceived as something other than weak, so his heart hardened over time and he pushed those he considered 'weak' away, since this prejudice against those who were 'weak' was ingrained deeply in his mind by his parents. Even after his parents died later on, he still wants to prove that he is not weak. To prove himself and to show that he is not weak, he wants to take over the other kingdoms. Also, this feeling of not wanting to be weak is exactly why he treats Ryker so rudely- he treats him similar to how he was treated to toughen him up. King Minkley's parents had hardened it into his mind that being 'weak' in any way was an absolutely horrible thing, and King Minkley didn't want to be associated with anyone considered 'weak,' so he wanted to do whatever he could to get rid of any  'weakness' in his step-son. He does actually care for Ryker, but he's not very good at showing it.

He wasn't quite as bad before his first wife's death, because she was who kept him sane. However, after she died, his bad side seemed to amplify.

I have some WIP info on him and his deceased wife. Basically, she was a food thief that snuck into a royal ball that was in his castle. She stole some food and tried to leave the castle, but, on the way out, Minkley spotted her, thinking that she was just another guest. He asked her to dance and she obliged. They danced together, and Minkley believed that he fell in love. For a while, Minkley didn't see her again, until guards caught her stealing from the royal kitchen. Everyone expected him to imprison her for these actions, but, instead, he pardoned her and offered her a free meal, much to everyone's surprise. At the meal, they chatted for a while and they began to grow attached. He offered her a room in the castle, and she accepted. They continued to get to know one another and, eventually, they happily married.

However, coincidentally, she died in the fire that Shogun set in his room. She was there on a diplomatic mission for her kingdom. Minkley blames the Kingdom of Arwen for this, and he wants to get his revenge by striking them back.
