Damien Krauss

Damien is the son, youngest child, and heir of the conqueror Adaranth Krauss. Damien has never been fond of his father or his ways of violence and anxiously waits for the day he can become king and undo the horrific deeds of his father. Growing up, Damien took an interest in diplomacy and was never a fan of training to be the warrior his father wanted him to be. However, he also knew that the only way he was ever to going to become the next king was to stay on his father's good side. Adaranth was an absolute beast of a man, so although Damien was decent in combat, with the added power of his father's army, overthrowing him was out of the question. His only option would be to learn as much as he could, do whatever his father asked, and patiently wait for his coronation. After finding out about Damien's sexuality, his father threated to take away his rights to the throne unless he found himself a wife. Despite being infuriated and absolutely appalled by the idea, Damien agreed to it. At that point, the lives of the citizens of the kingdom were worth it.

Adaranth had heard rumors of a tower deep within the forests outside of Edross where a young girl was said to live there, imprisoned by a dragon of Aragon. He sent a group of knights with his son instructing them to slay the dragon and take the girl as Damien's wife.

When the group finally arrived at the tower, the knights immediately engaged the dragon, Ranainth, in battle, despite the desperate pleas of their prince to let him reason with the dragon. Once Ranainth fell, the surviving soldiers were slaughtered by the young girl who was said to live in the tower, and it was then that Damien realized they had made a grave mistake. This girl had not been held prisoner, but was living here under the protection of the Dragon and was ready to avenge her protector.

Damien was absolutely terrified, but thought there may be a way he could use this to his advantage. As the girl threatened to decapitate him as she had the rest of his knights, he explained why he was there and offered her a deal. He didn't want to marry her, and after murdering her protector, he doubted she wanted anything to do with him either, and he never wanted to be there in the first place. In fact it was his father who ordered Ranainth's execution. So instead of killing him, Damien offered to take the girl back to his kingdom where she could kill his father. This way Damien would be made king, the girl would get her revenge, they wouldn't have to marry each other, and they could both be on their merry ways.

Damien is a nerd though and through. He loves learning about diplomacy and economics and dreams of bring peace to the kingdoms his father had destroyed. However, despite this, the boy can be quite oblivious. It takes him forever to figure out who Kaida is, and though he suspects Galan isn't telling the truth, his ever growing crush on him leads him to overlook obvious details. He's extremely optimistic and idealistic, so it can come as a shock to him sometimes when things don't go the way he thought they would.
