Dr. “Sotheby Zhou” is a behavior analyst and profiler for the Investigation Bureau that carries a bit of a track record of twisting people's arms a little too much. He graduated from his focus studies the same year as Ayala and has made a long and extensive academic career simply deconstructing the wonders of the alphean psyche. When he is not in the field with the Alpha team he covers his time by teaching criminal psychology and IB protocol at the Great University of Central Alphea (GUCA for short) located in the capital centralite city of Oblivi where the IB is now located. He is a reserved, stoic individual that has photographic memory and will call people out if needed.
Focusing on criminal profiling was never his main objective in life, but in one of his first years as a substitute he experienced the tragedy that swept the whole IB headquarters in one go and swore to himself to not allow such lapse of judgment happen again. He is the brain of the team and has a begrudging friendship with most of his members, taking things more professionally than the rest and making sure that no one gets too slippery. It is not rare to find him drinking coffee across university hallways complaining about how he hates his job as detective but the truth is that he would not step down until Ayala does. Recognizing the dangerous position and the necessity of the Alpha team, he is bound by duty and morality. Knowing that without him, the ravenstag might be slayed or controlled.
Zhou superficially carries the most correct and normal life one may experience from a person of his caliber, and he has everything for show. But the truth is, not even his name is real, after graduation he took the mantle of a deceased colleague and therefore has lived their perfect life trying to bury away the past of his. His passion for psychoanalysis comes purely from the idea that he requires weapons to be able to carry the perfect image he has constructed all these years. Titles and degrees, though many in his hands, mean nothing to him. Knowing one day he can be outed and centuries of work be basically destroyed.
It is hard to profile the dragon but the Alpha team know that when unleashed and not corrected, Zhou is way more dangerous than any of them, considering he has a extensive history in weapon training and drug knowledge, it is said in the team it is better to let someone die by the hands of the savage ravenstag than a slow and painful end by the ones of the dragon. Throughout his career he has had people find out the truth behind him and the team, said people bound to silence by death or blackmail. It is wrong to label him as evil since the concepts of good and bad are nonsense to him. He works by the laws of progress and order. Doing whatever he can to preserve it.

- Sotheby is actually a iridescent white alphean, he has gone through extensive (illegal) medical treatment to give himself his trademark blue pigment. This is to keep people off the trail of his actual identity.
- Being a Dungeon Master is a side hobby of his. He likes teaching the team's prodigies through practical thinking so they can better understand the job. Because of this some of them call him DM Zhou instead of Dr Zhou.
- Zhou and Ayala have a long standing suicide pact that has kept them both from going too into the deep end. Sotheby is deeply respectful of contracts, even spoken ones. So has established none of them are able to die without the other as well. The rest of the team call this “holding each other accountable”
- When not under pigment treatment he pales back into his white skin, when this happens you can see the iridescence poke through. His horns are see through crystals that project said colors into his surroundings.
- Has gained a significant amount of wealth due to his earnings as profiler and academic. There are many books under his name used for education. He is not one to really use these expenses aside from work uniforms and food. Not one for hoarding nonsense but is very likely to use expensive branding because of his high standards.
They met in the Academy. Sotheby has very conflicting feelings about the alphean due to their questionable past. One thing is true though, he empathizes with the investigator and that is what he hates the most.
Partners in the morbid, post mortem analisis is always more fun when Jaycelin is around. He takes pride on the fact he can hold a work talk without getting punched in the face, it is a great feat nowadays since the Eans patience is always as thin as ever.
From the five, Seretaya may be the only one that can sit down and talk with him casually. In Sotheby's eyes, Sere is just built with a whole new level of chill to him. He also finds his strength very valuable.
Sotheby has a sort of weird care for Solaen. Brought into this mess even younger than him he takes pity of what happened to their family on the Gate. Solaen is bound to fuck up a lot but he is the one to cut them the most slack since theyre a few decades younger than any of them.
Zhou and Harins have a extensive complicated relationship that has been manifested through the span of decades. All sprouting from the fact that they're not only rivals in their field and disagree in some points, but also because Zhou sees Harins as what his own life could have been if he was not tangled in the mess he is now. They pull at their leg by mere envy and tends to shy from socializing more than superficially with the doctor in hesitation they might be able to catch and recognize Zhous expertly crafted person suit. If anyone that knew both of them were asked, they would reply that "they're complicated"
