Profile
Juniya
You cried wolf, and I came running.
Now, tell me this: am I the wolf or the savior?
A Mage Protector gone rogue, disillusioned with the realities of present day Ivras and just how fleeting the respect for her kind is.

PERSONALITY
Secretive / Stubborn / Self-sacrificing / Sorrowful
Juniya sincerely believes people to be inherently good. She also believes with unyielding conviction that she's a bad apple, faulty and rotten to the core. Not by nature but by what she's become as a result of her own choices. In a rather defeatist manner she has accepted unhappiness as a part of her life, a burden that she will live with for the rest of her days she can feel diminishing in numbers with each use of her magic. Those closest to her needn't to worry though; if there's something she is adamant about, it's keeping her numb, darkened thoughts to herself.
None will be the wiser if she has a say in it, and it's the way she prefers it. Enough people have already been hurt by attempting to help her.
She aims to please any way possible and genuinely finds satisfaction in helping out others. It's thrilling, seeing and hearing about all the lives that she could never have. Giving back to people is all that matters. Aside from her life's work, she is quite the charmer, quick with her words and ever observant of her surroundings to stay one step ahead of those who wish to interfere with her work.

NOTES
- Adores stories and will gladly exchange tales with the strangers she meets on her travels. The only thing she greatly dislikes talking about is her past, forcefully moving the topic along whenever it comes up.
- Sincerely believes that it is her calling and purpose in life to help the mages around her, seeing corruption as a mere manifestation of something much simpler and human, that being emotional pain with its numerous faces. Were a non-mage to ask for her help as well though, far be it from her to spur any who reach out to her.
- Loves festivities and in general is easily persuaded to join any and all merrymaking if circumstances allow it. She's painfully aware of the risk she takes whenever passing through settlements with all the Witchfinders roaming about, but she refuses to let fear control her life. It could be said that she even enjoys taunting them, reassured as she is in her ability to get away from even the burliest pursuers.
- Exceedingly pro-mage and despises the Order as an institution, although her past makes things somewhat complicated as there are many who she still thinks of fondly even after her abrupt departure from the ranks of the Mage Protectors.
- Chronically depressed and tends to put herself last in everything. It doesn't matter, all that she is will be gone one day and until then all she can do is try to do some good despite the evil dwelling within that is her very self.
HISTORY
cw: implied death, post-partum depression
- Juniya was born to a humble merchant house as the eldest of six. Out of all her family members, it was only Juniya and her youngest sister that were touched by magic and it was with a mix of concern and utmost care that the two were eventually sent away to Namarast. She grew up to be a fine mage, more of the scholarly type than many of her monster hunting peers, but this is the point of the story where the healer's own recountings of her past diverge wildly.
- What is certain though, is that she returned home at one point and found a spouse, seemingly eager to reclaim that small world of her hometown she once knew. Or perhaps she was wed to a son of another merchant family as an union of mutual benefit, a sacrifice made to appease her aging parents. Whatever the case, the truth is that she returned alone.
- What became of her lost sister was buried alongside her memories of Namarast, but while Juniya won’t utter a word of her fate, to this day she carries a small finger bone on her person at all times.
- Her return wasn't meant to be, though, of that Juniya is certain as the past kept haunting her, the weight of unattained aspirations becoming more and more suffocating until everything seemed to come crashing down. The once confident woman was rendered to an anguished, weeping mess and would come to leave her hometown a second time. In her time there she had one child, and after he was gone, there was nothing holding Juniya back. She ran away again, this time back to Namarast where she'd been first given that sense of purpose all those years ago. It was a changed place though, unrecognizable under the new Archon's rule.
- Despite her fondness for the people she herself met there, the Order hadn't been a kind place to her late sister, and she was far from the only mage who would've never fit the Archon's vision, nor thrived under it. The rising wave of corruption did concern Juniya deeply, but it was clear to her that what she saw as people in a dire need of help, weren’t that in the Order’s eyes. She couldn’t stay with the institution.
- But did she set out on her journey out of altruistic desire to save mages and help those in need? Or was it Fortune whispering in her ear, guiding her, giving her the confidence she sorely needed to preach her message about mage liberation and showing grace to those deemed lost causes, monsters waiting to turn completely? Juniya won’t deny or confirm neither, but as far as she is concerned, she has her work cut out for her as long as the fire over her heart continues to burn.

Aesthetic
Heavy Heart
Juniya is a healer, but whether she was a healer first or became one because of her magic is up for debate. To put it simply, her magic grants her the power to take away another person's emotional pain, but only to a degree. Be it grief, regret, or agonizing sorrow, she can burn away the feeling as if it never existed in the first place. How she does it, she isn't all too sure about herself either, but the precise rules of it she's done well to commit to her memory, lest she takes away what she shouldn't.
Cost: Magic does not work or has no effect except under specific circumstances. (2)
- For her magic to function, she not only needs the consent of the person but also their ugly secret that is causing them the pain she's meant to heal. Juniya cannot take away the burden of one's consciense if she doesn't know where its roots lie.
USE & LIMITATIONS
Her magic works only once per person, or so she claims. Aside from that, for her magic to work in the first place, the recipient must touch her flaming heart as she holds their hand, letting fire embrace them both for a brief moment of blinding light. The true cost of her magic is the strain it puts on her, slowly but surely sipping away at her own life energy, leaving her exhausted and her skin ashen after each ritual.
In those moments of blinding light, one might catch a glimpse of her skin cracking, looking akin to a smoldering corpse.

DESIGN NOTES
▸ Equine- Flaxen chestnut appaloosa coat with white socks
- Mule ears and feathered hocks, soft features with heavy-lidded eyes
- Has some very subtle unicorn traits, namely her cloven hooves and her tail, that is a tad longer than an avarage horse's
- Has an open cavity in her chest that is always covered in flames, protecting her exposed heart
- Her irises are chestnut brown
▸ Human
- Very expressive and warm with her mannerisms but there's a sense of restraint to everything she does
- Favors long and warm robes or dresses. Often dons a traveling cloak of some kind when she's on the road
- Very pale, almost sickly so. Often paints her lips with rouge but apart from that doesn't bother with prettying herself up
- The magical fire on her chest doesn't burn her, nor does it harm any material it comes in contact with unless she wills it so, regardless whether the material in question is organic or not
- 5'4" tall, not so much delicate as she is petite
