Personality

[laid-back / friendly / mischievous / optimistic]

A man that can be seen lying about at ass o’clock with a sketchbook and pencil in hand, and sometimes another pencil in his mouth, who then proceeds to greets you way too cheerfully at 7am (after an all-nighter of course). Liu Wen is someone who does everything at his own pace, unless forced otherwise.

Laid-back, mischievous and jovial, Liu Wen can be both relaxing and stressful—depending on the circumstances—to be around. Typically reassuring when his pace is steady, and varying levels of stress when working fast as lightning or slow as a snail (or uh simply not moving at all). He enjoys ribbing his friends and can be seen with a shit-eating grin when he manages to rope his friends into purposelessly pointless argu--debates.

However, the randomness at which his thoughts jump around can be a bit off-putting and some of his comments can be rather blunt and insensitive due to his curiosity and often time, lack of filter, though he’s quick to pick up on when he fucked up.

Quite cheesy, it's something that's mellowed a bit out over the years but he's still cheesy. Just less. He likes making his appreciation known and always makes a point to make sure the others how valued they are. Even if he has to be dramatic about it. Sometimes a positive thing, sometimes a negative.

He is hard to faze and disturbingly accepting of bewildering situations and news. Liu Wen takes a lot of things in stride, his steady and optimistic nature often keeping those around him calm. On the other hand, his natural optimism can also end up peeving others in stressful situations.

A very physical individual, Liu Wen often communicates through touch. From reassuring touches on the shoulder, bone-crushing hugs of happiness or simply having an arm slung around someone’s shoulders. One can always find Liu Wen somehow in contact with whichever friend is sitting with him. His long limbs make it all too easy to stretch across the couch to shoving his cold feet under someone’s legs (mostly to Song Zhen’s annoyance).

Seemingly simple in his desires, Liu Wen doesn’t typically come off as a very ambitious individual. A roof over his head, enough money for food and art supplies and surrounded by his family and friends. Liu Wen’s more than content. But life’s a bitch and money is happiness. So when there was a job, Liu Wen’s plans were often ambitious, determined to take every penny and beyond (yeah he’d charge extra).

Background

Sometimes, life's just a bitch isn't it? But we take what we get.
And I think I ended up with a pretty good one.

A mercenary that retired, became an art forger, opened up an antique shop as a front and adopted a disgruntled kid. Liu Wen spends his days “managing” the store, working on various art pieces and doing whatever catches his interest.

After being rescued by Song Zhen who had then been only a duo with Hua Ying, Liu Wen was under their care for a few months before leaving them. They crossed paths during Liu Wen’s beginnings as a mercenary and some odd here-and-there jobs and while they were always friendly, they hadn’t really worked together. It wasn't until after a particular job where they had been assigned together that Liu Wen had wiggled his eyebrows saying they worked quite well together. Hua Ying had agreed and playfully wiggled her own eyebrows in response. And so Hua Ying, Liu Wen and Song Zhen did several jobs together until Liu Wen went off on another journey on his own.

There, he’d meet 3 others. Yán Lǐān (嚴禮安), Shì Yuè (世玥), and Shì Fāng (世鈁). One job together turned into 3 and then 5 and soon, 3 months had passed before seeing Song Zhen and Hua Ying again. Melding his 2 groups of comrades together, Liu Wen became the de facto leader and soon they were all but breezing through jobs.

Eventually, Yena joined and a family of 7 were formed.

Later on, they became targeted. A sabotaged job that caused Liu Wen to be put out of commission. Then, through an accident that was revealed to be intentional murder, Yan Lian and Shi Fang died and Shi Yue went to seek revenge, but later disappeared. And then Hua Ying was outright murdered.

Liu Wen had healed but retired. While Liu Wen had retired out of grief and claims of old age, there was also something else. The seals of protection that his mother had left behind on his soul were fading, leaving the remnants of the cursed seals that had siphoned his powers into his uncle and his son’s to eventually flare up again. And so he decided to close this chapter on his life.

Liu Wen mourned for his lost family but continued to strive forward and did his best to stay strong for Song Zhen and Yena. Using the money he had made (and maybe some from not-so-legal sources), he opened up an antique and started to spend his days doing more menial things. Enjoying things he couldn’t while always traveling, Liu Wen began to get back into painting and inking.

Soon, a disgruntled Liu Yunfei would be adopted. Sometimes they were father & son, other times uncle & nephew. It didn’t really matter. Yunfei was family.

Raising Yunfei to the best of his questionable ability. Liu Wen’s pride glowed with Yunfei’s accomplishments, achievements and most of all, the insecurity he saw Yunfei grow out of. Yunfei was much more ambitious and it wasn’t long before Yunfei left home to begin his own journey.

Liu Wen knows he is weakening, but he likes where he is at now. Pattering about, forging away with his possibly considered cheating abilities and making sure to bother his family.

Born into a family known for their precognitive and—to a smaller extent—retrocognitive abilities. Liu Wen was raised under many appraising eyes. His abilities were growing by leaps and bounds, earning much approval from his elders but his unambitious attitude was always a topic of concern. Though, it didn’t worry Liu Wen much. His mother never expressed her concerns about it and continued to let him be.

Liu Wen could be found scaling the trees, lazing around on the rooftops, drawing in random locations, sparring with the guards and chatting much too animatedly to anyone walking by. Curious and all too cheerful, Liu Wen was eager to learn about the world. He loved history and spent a lot more time honing the retrocognitive aspect of his psychometric abilities than precognitive ones. Perhaps if he had spent more time on the latter, he could have foresaw the sorrow that would befall his family.

Liu Wen wasn’t very good at differentiating between visions and dreams. His divinations through dreams were much weaker than through touch. And foretelling the future was always a more sporadic happening.

A murky dream of blood, coldness and anguish. Liu Wen didn’t think much of the dream, sharing it with his mother who had given him some vague tips to let him come to his own conclusion.

“Death happens everywhere. Sometimes, we can’t do anything about it. Sometimes, it’s too far for us to even do anything. It is a part of life, and unfortunately, some events must come to pass.”

Then, on a sweltering summer’s day, his mother and father left the world.

“But, it wasn’t even cold.”

His cheerful disposition dimmed and Liu Wen was lost.

Liu Wen was the sole heir. But he was not of age yet and so his uncle took over as temporary leader.

Spiraling into a numb drive of research. Liu Wen worked at his precognitive abilities, but to his disappointment, the improvement was miniscule. He knew magic needed time, you could never force it to improve, but he had already run out of time.

Too absorbed in his despair, he hadn’t noticed things had begun to change around him, or maybe he had refused to see it until it was too late.

One moment he was chatting with his aunt about something and the next moment his eyes were opening to the snowing sky. Seals were written, blood was spilled and time was frozen.

He could feel it. The magic that was leaving his body. Oh, they were trying to steal his magic.

Liu Wen couldn’t tell how much time had passed, only that he was slowly fading away. Until one day, there was a crack and then a blooming of brilliantly golden flowers exploding in front of his eyes. His imprisonment crumbled away and he was greeted by a pair of equally golden eyes.

“Well, you’re not treasure.”

Relationships

華盈 Huá Yíng [ Deceased Family ]

The one who rescued him along with Song Zhen. Hua Ying was the one who lifted him up when he couldn’t do it himself. He frequently had little weird and funny conversations with her.

宋鎮 Sòng Zhèn [ Family ]

The one who rescued him alongside Hua Ying. Liu Wen values Song Zhen’s steadiness and looks back fondly on their awkward efforts to encourage him (which they are a lot better now) He loves riling Song Zhen up and roping him into pointless debates. A part of him always feels like he failed Song Zhen when they retreated from everyone.

睿衍 Ruì Yǎn [ Family ]

The last one to join their little family. Liu Wen is rather partial to Rui Yan, never taking offense to their then often cold attitude, and instead, delighted in their snarky nature. Their beginning attempts to make themselves disliked only endeared them more to him. He is proud of how far Rui Yan has come, even if the changes aren’t very prevalent to those on the outside. The memory of Yena allowing him to call them Rui Yan still remains one of the most precious to this day. The testament of their trust in him.

世玥 Shì Yuè (hi sarah) [ Missing Family ]

Quiet, yet mischievous. Liu Wen met Shi Yue and his twin at one of the jobs. They worked together on several jobs after discovering how well they got along on and off the field. Taking great liking to their mischievous schemes, Liu Wen always had plenty of fun with them.

世鈁 Shì Fāng [ Deceased Family ]

Empathetic and rowdy. Liu Wen met Shi Fang and his twin at one of the jobs. They worked together on several jobs after discovering how well they got along on and off the field. They drink together the most and often got into too much trouble for their rowdiness with the stupid things they liked to try out.

嚴禮安 Yán Lǐān [ Deceased Family ]

The most level-headed of their group. Liu Wen met him and the twins at the same job. Taking note of their calm nature and nature to adapt, Liu Wen invited them to form a group with him and the twins. Lian had a weird sense of humour and would occasionally cook up the most delicious of pranks. But otherwise, they were a relatively calm individual, often choosing to remain on the sidelines until Shi Yue, Liu Wen and Yena got in too deep with their mischief.

劉雲飛 Liú Yúnfēi [ Family ]

His adopted son/nephew depending on Yunfei's mood. Liu Wen met them at an underground art auction and bought off their contract from the dealer.

Other

Ability

Witch Class

- enables external mana usage of written/spoken spells
- though he can't utilize it much due to his weak core

Psychometry

- can read a subject's past and sometimes future (rare) through touch
- is transcribed onto his scroll and then his book (only understandable to himself)
- when the history of the subject stretches too far, it becomes more like murky feelings
- scroll & book are an infinite length
- releases inky smoke

Dreams

- will sometimes dream of future events
- usually not very useful

Misc.

- hair used to black, and then faded to gray over the years
- was rescued by Song Zhen
- family tried to leech his magic
- depending on his days, he can look quite washed out with only his eyes still being a deep colour
- he cannot cast magic other than his psychometric abilities without it straining him
- since his surface magic has been mainly stolen, he is incompatible with any staffs/wands and is only barely compatible with his mother’s old staff that is currently in his possession.
- labeled as a Knight, but in reality, he is a Witch. He cannot effectively utilize Knight spells either but is easier to say he's bad at it than explain why he doesn't even cast simple spells.
- not so great with technology, he likes taking things apart but kind of bad at putting them back together
- staff can shift into a flute
- likes sparring and all but much prefers art (and forging art bc it's fun)
- hair grows hella fast
