Ruru

A bit of a wild child, Ruru likes to live on the edge. She loves to take risks, and has absolutely no respect for the law. If she wants to do something, she'll do it. She takes full advantage of the fact that she can fly. However, she's extremely cautious (and more than a little paranoid) around people she doesn't know, because in her eyes, any one of them could be a secret agent trying to recapture her.

She was one of the bird kids that Max and the Flock freed from the School in the subways of New York. The reason she didn't stick with the other rescued mutants is she has more bird DNA in her than the kids of the Flock, and she felt like she didn't belong. After being rescued from the NYC School, she flew immediately to New Zealand (as far as she could fly before she fainted from exhaustion) to escape the radar of the Whitecoats in America.

She has small, downy feathers on her wrists and ankles (she hides those with boots and gloves) and she can make a wide range of owl vocalisations as well as human speech. Also, her hair is more like feathers than actual hair. Not much she can do to hide that, but oh well.
