At home, Etzel was considered the favorite of his siblings from being able to utilize magic the most effectively of his siblings at a young age. He had the most attention of his parents, to the dismay of his younger brother and sister. He was also generally liked at the magic school in town that he and his siblings attended. However, the attention he received came at the cost of immense pressure by his parents to keep being their perfect child, and succumbing to his anxiety at times when things were too much for him. He didn't interact with his siblings too often due to being busy a lot of the time, leaving him oblivious to their true feelings about him.

Canaro running away and what led up to it was a wake-up call for Etzel. He argued with his parents and Destrie on the matter to unsatisfactory results, pushing him to look for his younger brother on his own. They would eventually reunite, with Etzel wanting to just bring Canaro home until he finally sits down to listen to Canaro's reasons for leaving. He ends up opting to stay with his brother rather than leave him to roam the streets, getting to know him a lot more in the process and finally befriending him. In the present, the two are managing fine. Etzel occasionally visits the rest of his family, but wishes that they could one day let go of their judgements and be together once again.
