Originally born of a noble family, Nicholas was subject to the prim and proper upbringing of a single born heir. His childhood was of no consequence, as a quiet child he earned praise easily. His interests lay in research and experiements, becoming a bit of a scholar before the dreams started. It was only so long he was able to keep them secret, before his parents caught wind. Fortunately, they were as willing to keep quiet about it as he was, increasing public pressure making it simply unfeasible to have a mage for a son. Having a deeply devoted scholar for a son, however, would be much preferrable. It was with the wind at his back, he left home for the wilds of the Orlesian /Ferelden border to study his own powers, as well as magic in general. This was at age 17, and decades in the wilderness with little contact has done nothing for his social skills. He wears formal clothing and manners as a second skin, pulling on childhood experiences of decorum to cover up his inexperience when speaking with strangers. He is better at speaking with farmers and traders on individual basis, but is useless in a crowd.
