BIO
Paeri is a plucky young adventurer, but her still-growing experience is starting to take its toll on her optimism. She’s still brave to a fault, reckless and protective, and travels the world in the hope of making it a better place by her lute or by her rapier.
She’s an anarchist, punk musician and folk historian, using her bardic skills to tell and capture the tales of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and she herself lives striving to do the same. She is also highly religious, following the halfling deity Charmalaine, calling on her for luck and courage.
When not risking life and limb to save the world, she spends a lot of her spare time performing. This is either simply as a musician or instead as a drag king called Ginger Tom.
COURAGEOUS • COMPASSIONATE • VOLATILE
Paeri is a bundle of love and excitement, able to find joy in the tiniest of things and like most halflings has a streak of hedonism with a love for food, drink, love and music.
She’s incredibly affectionate both platonically and romantically, and boasts a huge circle of friends from being both one of the guild’s friendliest and longest standing members.
Despite being naturally boisterous, she makes efforts to soften herself while speaking to anyone on the more timid side, and can be a very comforting presence who’s always willing to lend an ear, even if her advice- while well intentioned- may be less than sound.
She has strong beliefs of freedom and justice, and continues to adventure in the hopes to defend anyone in need, but especially other common folk.
She is also very impulsive, for better or worse. In stressful situations she is equally likely to be impressively quick on her feet, or find herself out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Despite her kind nature and staunch ideals, she has been known to turn bitter and spiteful when backed into a corner. Most of her negative relationships she’s able to keep her dislike healthy and measured, but in some cases she holds grudges which eat away at her and grow ugly and resentful.
These often happen when those closest to her have been hurt and she feels the need to avenge them, whether they approve or not. On top of this, she feels a deep betrayal when any of her friends associate with anyone on her shitlist, which has caused quite a few of her loved ones to become secretive around her for fear of her blowing up.
Her blind loyalty has also led to her own poor treatment, her bending over backwards for friends who did not return her kindness. She has since learned to respect both her own and other’s boundaries, and to proverbially put on her own oxygen mask before helping others.
BACKSTORY
Paeri had an idyllic childhood, growing up in a large nomadic clan of halflings known as the Loudsong Family. She spent most of her days playing with her cousins in the fields and forests they camped by, and was always an incredibly adventurous child.
While she was raised communally like all Loudsong children, her parents still taught her her most precious talents. Her mother, an ex-acrobat taught her how to dance and tumble while her father gave her his lute when her skills quickly surpassed his lessons. By the time she was a teenager, Paeri knew she was would always be a performer.
As much as she loved her clan, their migrations were far too slow for Paeri as she grew up and she soon became restless. Soon after her 16th birthday and a coming of age ceremony in honour of her goddess Charmalaine, she set to leave home with her lute on her back and a lovingly made packed lunch from her Great Granny Loudsong, the matriarch of the clan.
Not long after busking to get by in local towns, Paeri bumped into an old friend of hers, Em, who had created her own band after she had unfortunately moved away when they were children. Paeri was immediately absorbed into the band as a joint vocalist and lute player. the group of scrappy teenagers toured the kingdoms, playing in shitty taverns or on street corners. They only ever made just enough silver for the next journey, but picked up plenty of friends.
Unfortunately, there was no real plan in mind and the band were young and stupid, barely keeping themselves fed and spending all their time and money to continue this endless party.
After an especially gruelling length of travel, the tensions were nearly unbearable. During an argument one night while they were camped out at the side of the road, Paeri stormed off as part of a drunken tantrum. She stomped into the woods and blacked out, only waking up the next morning, freezing cold and curled up under a tree a few miles away form the campsite.
When she returned, the apology already on her lips, she found the camp in ruins. It had been attacked while she was gone, not leaving a single survivor behind.
To this day, she still doesn’t know exactly what it was that killed them, but her mind answers ‘bears’ to protect her from thinking too hard about it.
After the tragedy, there was nothing for Paeri except to return home. She was cared for by her family, and she slowly returned to the bright young musician she once was. Perhaps too early, she spotted a strange shape in the sky just as she was beginning to grow restless at home again.
She joined the Champions of the Sky, and promised this time she’d be there, she’d be better, and she’d be the protector she needed to have been.
DESIGN NOTES
- Her eye colour is hazel.
- She's never seen without her cateye eyeliner
- The blue on her face is temporary warpaint, while the seagull on her ear is a permanent tattoo.
- She has snakebites, a stretched septum, stretched lobes (20mm), second lobe piercings, and a helix on her right ear. She wears a phoenix feather in her left ear. She also has her nipples pierced.
- The colour in her hair is temporary from a magic comb. When used it makes any hair it touches a random colour.
- Her freckles are multicoloured from eating strange berries in the feywild.
- She has burn scars up the right side of her body, on her arm, side, neck and face.
- She is very hairy and has body hair all over, including her chest, belly, arms and her sideburns, the last of which she is particularly proud of.
- Her breastplate is a priceless magical artifact. She has decorated it.
- In combat Paeri is best suited as a healer, relying on her quick feet and mobility to easily navigate the battlefield and zip past enemies to reach her comrades. Even with being so slippery, with her armour and confidence in rapier she is just as comfortable in a duel or melee, using her combat inspiration to aid her allies with their own attacks.
Her favourite spells are Heroism, Calm Emotions and Slashing Step (homebrew).

Paeri pays her respects to the whole halfling pantheon, but follows Charmalaine most of all. She’s the goddess of luck and narrow escapes and an illustrious and dashing adventurer who protects and warns halflings of danger. She is said to run so quickly that her boot prints smoulder and smoke.
Like most halflings, Paeri loves the gods as family members rather than the traditional sense of worship, and views her as a very cool older sister. When Paeri tries to imagine her face, she thinks of the different women in her family: her mother, great grandmother and various aunts and cousins who are equally brave and make her feel loved in much the same way as the goddess does.On her 16th birthday, before leaving the Loudsong camp for her own adventurers, Paeri completed a fire walk as a coming of age ceremony, representing every step of hers is guided by the deity.
Recently, she has also been communing more often with Brandobaris, the halfling god of stealth and thievery since becoming a rogue.
- Paeri is genderqueer and a tomcat, using she/her pronouns. She doesn’t mind other pronouns at all, but does not choose them for herself, except for when in drag, using he/him. She is comfortable with any gendered language and will call herself a girl or a boy fairly equally.
Her gender expression changes often and flows from feminine, masculine and androgynous, and happens independently from her drag. She doesn’t feel dysphoria except when dressed both feminine and formally, but often makes small changes like binding or masculinizing makeup for gender euphoria.
- On quests, Paeri dresses practically but colourfully. Most of her items are customised in some way with embroidery, graffiti or hanging trinkets, but she covers her body with comfortable clothes under and around her armour. She usually wears a loose tunic, trousers and knee and elbow pads.
The rest of the time, she’s more likely to wear scruffy and revealing clothes, preferring anything punky and androgynous. She might wear cropped tank tops, short skirts, patched trousers or customised jackets, and fixes and alters clothes herself.
- Paeri performs as a drag king known a Ginger Tom, nicknamed Tommy. She has made several storylines for him, picking one depending on her concept for her next performance.
Most often he is a strung out rock star, but has been an adventurer, a lost prince and- surprisingly often- a zombie.As Tommy, Paeri draws more fake tattoos between her real ones, fills in her sideburns to a full beard and ties back the longer parts of her hair to keep the short spikes. She binds her chest with tape and often leaves it bare with revealing shirts or none at all. In drag she usually sings and dances, but sometimes also plays any of her instruments.
Tommy is house father, along with house mother Sunday to The Haus of Kaiser.

- Paeri's design is inspired by a mashup of folk punk, iron age ireland and roller derby.
- Despite being frightened of dead things and rot, she has a strange fascination with zombies in art and fiction. She's less keen in real life.
- Gragul, my first ever DND character, is her mentor and taught her how to fight.
- She gave herself her first tattoo secretly at 11 years old. It's a wonky upside down fairy.
- She doesn't like sleeping alone, so often will platonically share a bed with one of her friends. Usually Fletcher or Pip, but a few people she feels safe with.
- She is 1/4 dwarf.
Pip is Paeri’s best friend. They met on the first quest of the guild, where they got on swimmingly even before it turned into a blood bath. They lost two guild members that day, and Paeri would have been the third if Pip had not saved her life.
After that, the two were stuck to each other like glue. Most nights they fall asleep cuddling, and Pip has been welcomed into the Loudsong family as if they were blood.
Paeri loves them, and has tried her best to support and protect them throughout their friendship, but has often been far too volatile and overbearing instead of handling things with any tact. It also stings just how bitterly Pip hates themselves and their body when they share so many of the same physical features, which Paeri herself loves.
Still, they’ve stuck together and grown together. Paeri’s dad Harol has a lot in common with the genasi, and during a stay at the Loudsong camp encouraged them down the path of becoming druid. Paeri ….thinks they’re doing better now. She isn’t entirely sure, but they’ve taken steps both backwards and forwards in their time as friends.
After a blunder on Paeri’s part when the two first met which has since been forgiven, Paeri and Malyn have become good very friends. While Paeri might be a little more drastic and chaotic than Malyn, she respects the unfaltering good in Malyn’s heart and their shared drive for justice, as well as being thankful for the friend she has been to Del while he was finding his feet.
She values Malyn’s advice and wisdom highly, and often checks in on her for opinions on Paeri’s latest dramas. She has also become victim to Malyn’s more mischievous streak and penchant for summoning velociraptors and other pesky creatures. Her favourite are of course the ferrets.
Paeri is incredibly excited about Malyn’s engagement and is so ready to throw herself into help with wedding plans.
Sunday and Paeri met under unusual circumstances: hiding behind the same bush while stalking two fey who they suspected to be assassins, here for their mutual friend Oddity. They were only half right, but despite the complicated situation a beautiful friendship bloomed between Paeri and Sunday.
Between them and the famous Tonk, world-class performer and owner of the Guilded Nightingale, they brought a vibrant drag scene to Sky Island, Paeri and Sunday founding the Haus of Kaiser.
They have a lot in common and shared goofy sense of humour, and have seen each other naked in the unsexiest ways more times than they can count. It only strengthens their warriors bond.
Branwen approached Paeri after a performance one night to ask a few questions, and Paeri and Sunday quickly swept her up into their Haus when she told them she was interested in trying out this whole drag thing.
Paeri and Branwen have an electric chemistry on stage, and Paeri can’t help but giggle and blush a bit when helping Bran with her makeup for Raven, her stage persona.
Paeri isn’t quite entertaining her crush on Bran yet, for the same reasons she hasn’t with Aiyalin, but it’s there in the back of her mind.
What if they were both boys who were both girls and they kissed on stage at the Guilded Nightingale…? They also kiss plenty when off stage, being friends with benefits.
It was a rocky start for Paeri and Malach. Paeri was determined to make a friend in Malach, and was far too pushy in the pursuit, yet Malach would welcome Paeri only when she wanted something from her and would only feign respect.
It was messy, and after a few intense spats, it changed for the better after Paeri found Malach on her birthday with some small but special gifts, turning around what Malach thought would be a horrible day and realising how the halfling cared for her.
It started a tradition where the pair would give each other ‘treasure’ (funny trinkets) on birthdays and for Candlenights of which they have never missed.
These days Malach treats Paeri kinder and is far more playful, humouring Paeri and letting her show her new things. Paeri is very pleased to have her as a good friend now, and can tell that Malach’s warmth is genuine now she has learned to accept love from others, and give it right back.
Aiyalin
Close Friend
Paeri and Aiyalin have a very close and gentle relationship. They are incredibly intimate (in more ways than one) and affectionate, but don’t use any labels on what would be considered far more than a friendship by most standards. Despite being polyamorous and a romantic at heart, Paeri is not yet ready to start another ‘Official Relationship’ after her loss, and Aiyalin herself is unconcerned with labels, so they just let whatever occurs between them happen naturally.
Paeri likes this arrangement for now, and is happy with Aiyalin’s and Del’s relationship progressing at a different rate to Aiyalin’s and her own, happy that they’re happy. What they have is nice and comfortable and she cherishes it.
