Overview

About

Princess of her kingdom and heir to the throne, Dion has a lot of expectations held up on her shoulders. And she doesn't struggle to fit these expectations, but she does struggle to want to fit them, which has led her more and more astray from the throne she's meant to take upon coming of age, well aware that despite how much she may run, the cold, hard claws of reality will catch up to her eventually.

While not a hedonist, Dion definitely seeks out self-indulgence to distract from both royal duties as well as the reality of their situation. She is conflicted on whether she truly wants to take the throne or not and wants to have more time to think on it and truly "find" herself, as she's mostly felt like she's been forced to become the person her parents/subjects expect her to be instead. This is extremely obvious in the way Dion holds herself, as Dion is extremely composed and despite internally being strongly emotional, she tends to not express this outwardly until someone grows close to her, appearing rather static and calm as a result, but also painfully quiet when around other royals. He's self-assured and knows his own worth, but knows that the people around him, especially in his family, won't appreciate the person he wants to be. Rebellious but mostly acts out due to feeling unheard/not listened to as well as, again, to distract herself from reality. Doesn't like having no control, hates feeling worshipped. Dion also tends to take the blame easily and becomes desperate to fix problems even if they aren't their own to fix, almost as if she herself feels the pain her parents may have caused others. Dion is solidly patient, and she's not super expressive but you'll tell when she's frustrated or flustered, the latter of which comes easy. She has a very kind heart, but her feisty and troublemaking tendencies tend to get her smacked with the "pompous brat" role by people who do not know her well. She is also notably quick-witted and stubborn, and loves to tease, being quick to respond to jabs at her with playful and witty quips of her own.

Above everything else, however, Dion is desperate to have a semblance of control over her own life. The princess has never gotten the chance to make her own decisions, everything has been planned out for her despite her wishes, she was born with a path in mind and, to everyone but her, that path is what she must follow. And while the type to overthink things, when given the ability of choice, Dion tends to act quickly, all too eager to have an ability to do what she wants. Her curiosity is also an admirable trait about her just as much as it is a flaw, as it can lead them into trouble at times. When given the chance to warm up to someone, one will manage to discover a charismatic, charming person who is desperate for a chance to step out of the box she's been put in, but considering Dion's lack of true bonds until Jo appears in her life, it's solidly apparent she'd never met someone who'd ever given her that chance before him.

Skills & Abilities

Fencing
Dion has been practicing fencing since she was a teenager, and due to her passion for the sport, holds an immense talent for the practice.
Floriculture
A passion for flowers despite her allergies has made Dion to practice gardening or studying flowers when she can. She has a solid grasp of flower language as well.
Trilingual
With not much else to do as she grew up, while English is her first language, Dion is also fluent in Spanish and French.
Bookworm
Another past time Dion picked up while bored during her childhood, Dion is an extremely talented reader and can read extremely quickly. She also very much enjoys reading into metaphor and doing analysis work.
Charisma
Dion was raised to be a good public speaker, and she carries the talent well as expected of her. She seems to always know the right thing to say and just when to say it.
Dancing
She wouldn't consider herself the best dancer in the world, but Dion does like to do it, especially with her wife. She was raised to be good at ballroom dancing, but she'll fall in line with anything if given the chance.

Notes

Lifestyle
Dion was born into the lap of luxury, at the very top of the pecking order, though always found themself disatisfied with their life and unhappy with the fate that seemed to already be written for them. After leaving her status behind to live with Journey, however, she lives a far less lavish life, but a comfortable one all the same, and a far happier one especially. She would have been an excellent ruler had she stayed in the kingdom, though it would have not entirely been the life she would have wanted (Though it would have been bearable if she'd had to live it, as long as Journey was with her for it).
Love Languages
Ironically, despite being incredibly physically affectionate and at times clingy, Dion's main love language, by traditional means, is not physical affection (though it is a close second!). It would actually be words of affirmation, considering Dion is an absolute sucker for saying the sappiest things to her partner when given the chance. Her teasing seems to almost be a separate love language of her own since it only seems to increase around her partner. Either way, Dion above all else will make damn sure her loved ones know she loves them no matter what.
Royal Features
Outside of following the typical royal practice of adorning themself in jewellry and the like, Dion went through the traditional practice royals go through, that of which being having her ears cropped into a longer, pointed shape as a child. She is entirely human, though royals tend to believe this gives them an almost "ethereal" image.

Dion also, notably, has an odd lack of pigment in her right eye, making it a paler shade than the left. This is not due to her royal blood, though many assume it is, along with her white eyelashes (which, in reality, is just a specific bit of vitiligo she inherited from her mother's side of the family).

Gender PResentation
Being genderfluid (however extremely closeted for most of her life until she met her partner), Dion has a lacking view of gender and while definitely feminine-leaning has a love for mixing both masculinity and femininity together in her presentation. Dion would describe it as a desire to be more princely in a society that cannot imagine such a concept. Prior to abandoning their royal status, they would often use fencing as an excuse to wear their fencing outfit around, since it was far more masculine, and also occasionally steal their partner's clothing both as an excuse to wear it and to appear more gender non-conforming when they can. Dion still identifies as a woman, just...a woman with an asterisk.

Background

Early Life

Born into both the lap of luxury and with the promise of ascending to the throne handed to her, Dion's childhood was full of relative ease. As one would expect, they seemed to get everything they wanted and Dion obviously never faced any hardships within her childhood, being too young most of the time to have any big place in any major blows either made by or taken by the kingdom. One would assume the princess would have had the perfect life, then, getting everything handed to her on a platter, though, as she aged, and as more royal responsibilities were put upon her shoulders, Dion began growing less and less...perfect. Or, well, in her head she did, at least.

As she matured and grew more more curious with the lives of the people her parents ruled over, as she was able to interact with them more, the more Dion felt...out of place. Frustrated, too, with the lack of control she quickly came to realise she had in her life. Dion had been born as an heir, her fate had been sealed the moment she'd been born...but where was Dion's say in that? What if he didn't want to rule? Sure, if put to the task, he could handle it, but...Dion quickly found himself growing more and more distant from the concept of it in general. It wasn't a fear of being terrible at it, it was the lack of control, the lack of freedom being shoved into that role would stick her with. Not to mention that unlike her parents, Dion was far more empathetic, far more emotional, and while they ruled to survive, she wanted to rule with compassion, a trait which they continuously tried to pry out of her. She was expected to be some perfect, gentle lady who cared only for her kingdom, and Dion...wasn't that. Nor did she want to be.

Fencing and archery (and even horseback riding) became ways of escape for Dion outside of their occasional attempts of sneaking out or getting into mischief, though they were hobbies Dion had to push hard for to even get to partake in. It gave them a distraction from dealing with suitors, from their parent's lessons, from fancy dinners, from...all of it. The suitors especially, though. Dion loathed the concept of being stuck in a political marriage like her parents were in, if Dion couldn't have much control, fine, but she would have control of whoever she ended up with, loveless marriage or not. Dion knew their parents weren't exactly pleased with the person Dion wanted to be, but it was okay, because that person gave Dion the semblance of control and freedom she wanted...even if it were only for the brief hours she had in fencing or the time she had on her own. But despite her hope, Dion knew well enough that the control was still in her parent's hands, and that her life was theres to puppet.

Current Events

Upon hitting her early twenties, Dion is aware that she's running out of time to cherish the little freedom she has, to keep self-indulgently distracting herself from the royal responsibilties looming behind her back. But God forbid she stop pushing them away now, even if it means dragging an obnoxious knight Dion refuses to admit she's formed a soft spot for into the whole mess with her.

Rapier
Her pride-and-joy, Dion had this weapon smithed personally for her, and she cares for it dearly. She also, of course, knows how to use it perfectly well.
tzhzun.jpg
Oversized Jacket
A jacket of Journey's, the same one he wore to the masquerade that he met Dion for the second time at. Dion stole it that night and still hasn't given it back, not that he seems to mind. She wears it often.

Engagement Ring
Upon reuniting and after winning the duel against her ex-betrothed, Journey proposed to Dion, so, of course, Dion wears her ring constantly. It is one of her most valued possessions.

Candles & Incense
Back when she lived in the castle, Dion had several candles about her room both for the scents as well as the light, to sate her fear of the dark. This trend has only continued. Dion would solely fund a Bath & Bodyworks if one existed in medieval times.

Fantasy Novels
Ever since she was a child, the art of fantasy and romance writing has interested Dion. She might not always have one on her person, but she always has a new novel she's begun reading around her home at least.

Fancy Jewlery
Though she certainly doesn't have as much as she used to, Dion kept a good amount of her jewlery when she left. As expensive as it most definitely is, she also enjoys wearing it. One of the perks of being an ex-royal, but if she ever had to sell any of it, it'd made a pretty penny.

Relationships

Dion's beloved partner, and later wife sometime after their move to Fawnsville.

Initially, when they first met, Dion wasn't sure what to think of Jo. Their personalities clashed, and that made it very easy for Dion to assume that, despite a night of playful, slightly mean banter, that they were nowhere near friends. This all changed when she and Jo ended up together in a masquerade ball held in the kingdom, Dion originally assuming he was a masked stranger, but upon finding it was him, noting that the same infatuated feeling they'd had for the presumed "stranger" stayed despite them knowing it was Jo himself. Their relationship is further cemented to at least be a friendship of sorts when, upon discovering Jo's financial situation, Dion suggests they fake a marriage; Jo to be able to use the royal wealth for his family, and Dion to have the freedom she so desperately wanted, a deal sealed with a vow. That same night of bonding, vulnerability, a genuine expression of care, and a confusing kiss has skyrocketed their relationship into the unknown, and Dion doesn't make it any better when she kicks off an affair with the knight after their plan fails and Dion loses her freedom entirely. Dion's feelings for Journey fully flourished here, while she'd held an infatuation with him the night of the masquerade, their night spent in bed talking awakened her to her feelings, though she swallowed these down pretty insistently at first, sure her status would deter him from returning them, and...finding out her parent's crime against his family did not help. Dion fully acknowledged her feelings at some point around the time she and Jo separated after their secrets were revealed, her feelings later being expressed upon Jo's return, once he confesses to her his own. Running away and living in the village his family lives in to start her life anew is something Dion will never regret doing.

Dion's adoration for Jo is clear anytime they look at him, their gaze seeming to always soften and warm upon meeting his gaze. Ever since they met, the woman had always seen her beyond her status, not just as a princess, but as Dion, and it's something that Dion genuinely appreciates. She is and will always be devoted to Jo and would do anything for him if asked, even if she does tend to brush off her kindness with a snarky or witty quip at times, he is everything to Dion, just as she is everything to him. Jo is the first person Dion has felt true, genuine care from, and his insistence on giving her the choice and control she lacked in her life prior makes her incredibly happy. She will always claim that he's a pain in her neck, though typically never truly means it, though most can clearly tell by the way the ex-princess looks at him and talks of him if given the chance.

Dion's former betrothed. Former due to him being both outed as wanting his wife-to-be's blood on his hands, and also due to him getting his head rended off his body by Dion's current spouse. Embarassing.

The two were betrothed by their parents, both hoping for a political alliance between both kingdoms, though Brutus' intentions were less innocent, longing for the power becoming King would give him. Dion disliked him from the start, finding his oddly polite and charming nature off-putting, though the fact that she was being forced to marry him probably didn't help either. She very quickly found out that, while seemingly a rule-breaker like her, he still had traditionalist ideals and had no interest in allowing Dion any choice or power when they eventually would rise into power, and the prospect of being married to him was even further soured, only making Dion ever more grateful when Journey managed to arrive just in time to stop the wedding and get her out of a life stuck with him. She...had absolutely no qualms with him being killed in the duel that later took place, especially considering the injury he'd managed to give her beloved the night before. Actually, quite frankly, she thinks very little of him, if she isn't making fun of him beyond the grave, I mean.

Dion's parents, and the King and Queen of their kingdom.

Dion has never had a very positive relationship with her parents. They weren't void from her life, but they were never all that close to her due to their roles in society, and while they both care about her, their care is twisted, Cassius especially spending most of his life pushing her about like a pawn for the sake of what he believed he was expected to do, to raise the next ruler of his kingdom. She found herself more frustrated with them than grateful to them, as they were the biggest reason Dion spent most of her life with no control nor an ability of choice until she met Journey. While grateful with them for giving Journey their blessing to marry her, the fact that he only got it from winning a duel still agitates Dion especially. They might have raised her, but leaving them behind was not a hard decision in the slightest, and Dion regrets none of it, even eventually changing her last name to finalize her distance from the family name and status.
