About
Originally a nameless spirit, they were christened as 「Yoru」 by their past master who took them under his wing. The two traveled as a pair of con artists, until the fateful day when Yoru was sealed inside a cave for many years.
In present day, they have been given a new name - 「Sumi」 - by their current master, Minato. They can take the weapon form of an inky-black double-bladed sword when summoned by Minato. He can also take on the form of a little palm-sized flying imp, affectionately dubbed Sumini.

On the surface, Sumi is your typical miscreant. He lives to be a nuisance to everyone around them, primarily their dearest master. They seem to revel in being as insufferable as possible, but in their heart, he has a deep desire to be loved and wanted. However, even once they've found a place to belong, Sumi still likes to be a pain in the ass. Some things you cannot change.

Story
Many hundred years ago in a small village there lived an old, widowed poet. One day, he was trying to write a new book of poems, but he could not find the right words. Frustrated, he crumpled up the parchment he was writing on and threw it away with all his might. The crumpled paper knocked over a bottle of ink, making the black liquid spill all over the floor. Tired and upset, the old man decided to leave it and go to bed.
When he woke up the next day, the old man was surprised to find what looked like a small child lying in the pool of spilled ink. The child had jet black hair and eyes, curved red horns, a long tail that ended in a sharp point, and was the size of the old man's palm. The poet was unafraid of the strange child, and decided to feed them some white rice soaked in soy sauce, in case they were hungry. Grateful, the child ate the meal, not leaving a single grain of rice in the bowl. After feeding the child, the old poet decided to try writing again, and to his surprise, inspiration came quickly. "How curious!" exclaimed the man, looking at the strange child. "Perhaps you are a spirit of good fortune and creativity. I will keep you and raise you as my own."
From then on, the old poet and the strange child lived together. The old man always fed them white rice with soy sauce, and before long the child grew to be the size of a normal human toddler, then a teenager, then a fine youth. The old man continued to write poems until the day he died. The strange child, now grown and no longer having the old man to care for them, disappeared from the village.
Under a previous identity, Yoru traveled with a wandering conman named Nobu. They lived together for many years, and during this time, Yoru's weapon form took on the shape of a tantō. Nobu and Yoru parted ways during a time of war, when Nobu stripped Yoru of their name, and sealed them away in the darkness, where he stayed for over 400 years.
By a stroke of bad luck, the spirit formerly known as Yoru met with an exorcist who had been tasked to banish them. Not wanting to be sealed away again, they struck a deal with the exorcist, and thus became his spirit familiar, with the given name Sumi. His weapon form takes on the shape of an inky black double-bladed sword. Currently, Sumi enjoys being a pest to their dear Master. ♥

Their eyes and hair do not reflect any light, appearing solid black.
Sumi can write fairly well with his tail.
They have a "tattoo" of Minato's last name on their lower back, but to their eyes it simply says 「Claimed」.
They enjoy wearing feminine kimono and aprons when at home in his Master's house.
He has a burn scar at their jugular notch (usually covered up).
