About the Digiscape
The Digiscape is a digital world inside of every computer. It is home to all the programs that help your computer operate. These programs each have their own job they must do. Theywork together to make your computer function.
Despite being an extention of our world, it really does not look like our world at all. The ground is made up of a grid. The Digiscape is abstract in appearance. In the distance, it almost looks like rainbow mountains. You could keep walking forever, but you will never reach them. If you look up, you will see a structure resembling a circuit board. The lines of the circuit board is the bus system. It is where all data and programs shoot through the computer to get from one part to another. Rouge bits and 3D models roam the infinite openness of the world. There are vegetation-like structures that are scattered throughout the grid. The programs of the Digscape can traverse the land and interact with each other in the vast area.
About the Programs
Programs of the Digiscape are a set of code instructing itself how to operate. Programs can be "good" or malicious. They can have an effect on the operation of other programs and the computer. The programs of the Digiscape have complex relationships between each other. They each have their own personality and role to play in computer operation.
All the "good" programs of the Digiscape share a common goal: serve the user to deliver the best experience. "Mal" programs obstruct normal operation. The individual behaviors of mal programs vary, as they can range from minor nuisances, to data phisers, or wipe out your computer entirely. Nearly all mal programs are downloaded externally, with the notible exception of Voirupt, a former good program whose code is broken beyond recognition.
Glossary
The Digiscape
A hub where all the programs can meet and interact with each other and travel to different sectors of the computer through the bus system.
Program
A set of code instructing itself how to operate. Programs can be "good" or malicious. They can have an effect on the operation of other programs and the computer.
Native Programs
Programs that are native to the Digiscape and come with every computer. These programs are not downloaded or obtained from elsewhere. Every computer's default programs in the Digiscape may vary slightly. For example, a computer without a built-in network card will not have Modocol by default. An example of a native program would be BIOS because every computer must run a POST test to operate.
External Programs
Programs that are not inherently part of the Digiscape's default code. These may be programs the user downloads from elsewhere. An example would be Didge, a ransomware program the user may accidentally download.
Good Programs
Programs that are designed to help the user or otherwise facilitate computer function.
Mal Programs
Programs with malicious code that are designed to hurt, obstruct, take data, or otherwise interfere with regular computer operation.
Virus
A type of mal program that is infectious and spreads from computer to computer.
Species
Describes what the character is. Usually a program, or a specific type of malware.
Role
Describes characters main purpose in the Digiscape or what they do.
Location
Where the program can usually be found. Most programs native to the Digiscape have a designated location. Other programs may wander through the Digiscape without their own place. Any program with a location on the desktop is directly interactable with the user. Some programs may obscure themselves deep into system folders.

Reasons for Creation
Since I was a kid I have had a deep fascination with how computers work, especially archaic ones. I love retro aesthetics in general, and retro tech in particular is one of my interests. I like modern computers too of course, but there is something magical about those WindowsXP aesthetics and how terminals look and early MacOS. Retro computer restoration is probably my favorite genre of videos to watch.
My love for computers, character design, and writing has lead me here to design a world inside your computer that explains why everything operates the way it does. I want to clarify, I am not a computer expert. Not everything I write is going to be ultra accurate to how computers work in real life. It is not supposed to be. It's my own interpretation. Despite this, it still has a heavy basis in computer science. As I learn more about computers, writing these characters helps me process this information better. I hope you can enjoy it to, because I do put a lot of effort into the creation of this world.
Resources
Man, I'm putting my resources here? What is this, an English paper?
PowerCert Animated Videos - These videos are SO helpful for learning things about computer science. The channel explains everything in a way that is easy to understand. It is a big help when I am researching
The Digiscape Playlist - A collection of songs I've gathered that just help me get the vibe I need when I am creating anything related to the Digiscape.
