About
Darner Meadowhawk. Formerly a captain of the [placeholder, d+a city] holy guard, and was often refered to as the second coming of Aeshna, the legendary hero of dragons, a comarasion he wasn't fond of, wanting his achievments to be his own. After allying himself with Olympia due to growing doubts, he faked the two of their's deaths and disapeared alongside her.
Due to a unexpected attack from a dragon, he lost his right arm and both legs, and would have met an early grave if it were not for Olympia's experimental attempt at carbuncle magic. Although it cost him his sight and hearing on one side, and puts a constant strain on his magic, he's still forever greatful, still having things left undone in the world.
Personality
Darner tends to be cold, blunt, and muted, prefering to speak through his actions. He's also incredibly no-nonsense, prefering not to trifle with those who may not carry themselves as they should. Despite this, he's proven himself to be loyal and compassionate, to an almost detrimental degree. He's tight-lipped about his past, even to his lover Olympia. Darner doesn't like being compared to others, wishing to be seen as his own person.

Story
Early Life
Darner doesn't speak often of his childhood and family life, other than his mother was a witch and executed, and that his father was killed after an assailant broke into his family's estate. Only thing he's open about is that he started training as a knight when he was a teenager.
An Act of Betrayal
When Darner was in his mid 20s, he sought out the White Witch Olympia while under the guise of delevering a missive to a smaller town under [placeholder, d+a city]'s jurisdiction. He earned her trust, stating he been doubting the ideas that witches were dangerous.
In order to cover his tracks, he told the Archpriestess he had found the location of the infamous White Witch, petitioning to bring his regiment to slay her. Once he reached Olympia's location, he had his men make camp, where he proceeded to poison his regiment, before helping Olympia fake the two of their deaths and escaping. It was then that he discarded who he was before, dressing in black armor in opposition to the nation he once served.
Unbeknownced to him, there was a single survivor of the poisoning who believed the act to have been the witch's doing, and that Darner had sacrificeded himself in order to slay her. A statue was erected of him next to the statue of the Hero Aeshna in his honor. He eventually learned of this fact, annoyed at his name being praised by the people he betrayed.
Carbuncle
After some time of traveling with Olympia, falling in love with the Witch along the way, the two were attacked by a dragon. Although he had managed to slay the beast due to a lucky, one handed shot from his rifle, he lost his right arm and both legs, and lay dying from numberous other injuries and burns. He begged for Olympia to save him. In an act of quick thinking, Olympia used to monsterous carbuncle magic on him to staunch the bleeding from his missing limbs. Although sucsessful, her magic went slightly out of control, tearing out his right eye and causing smaller crystals to sprout out of some of his burns.
Beacause of this, he's now reliant on magic to keep his blood flowing. He's greatful nonetheless, saying he still has unsinished buisness in the world, though he refuses to elaborate on what.
Trivia
- He often uses psudonyms instead of his real name, his favorite being "the Dragon".
- When pressed about his appearance, he claims it was a witch's curse.
Darner, due to both the dragon attack and Olympia's attempt to heal him, he's blind and deaf on his right side. Because of this, he tends to avoid using his rifle unless he's got a fairly clear shot. Despite his muted compassion, he's prone to violent tendancies, though he does what he can to surpress such urges.
Relationships
Lover - The love of his life, as well as the woman he's sworn his life to. Although not officially married due to the issues that bring, the two see each other as almost husband and wife. He's one of the few to have seen the cautious witch's face.
Ally - Originally annoyed by her idolization of him, Darner eventually grew to appreciate the younger knight, helping her come to terms about her worldview being turned on it's head.
??? - The legendary Hero of Dragons that Darner is oft compared to. Because of this, Darner has grown to despise the man, but there may be more to his adversion then he lets on.
