Story

Early Life

Virgil was found on the steps of a church, alongside his adoptive dead mother, a worn message begging for her son to be saved from an entity known as the Devouring Death. He was raised alongside the priests and priestesses, with the eldest priest being like a father to him. He showed exceptional skill in his healing magic lessons, even surpasing some of the adult clerics.

At around 13 years old, he was nearly kidnapped by a heretic, wishing to prove the church was nothing but lies by killing the young cleric. Virgil is quick to change the subject when it's brought up, still shaken by the event even more than he lets on.

Dread

Many years later, during one of the biggest holidays in the city, a sudden and intense dread fell over everyone. People scrabbled to get away from the city and whatever the dread's source was. Only he and a few citizens and guards were able to get out before the loud panicing of the people still inside the city suddenly turned silent, and the dread vanished along with their screams. A quick scout of the city from one of the guards revealed that the streets were empty and homes were quiet, as if everyone suddenly ceased to exist. Vigil swears he saw the shadow of some great horrific beast moments before the city went silent.

Most of the survivors chose to travel together, aside for Virgil who wished to go alone, believing that the calamity at the city is connected to the "Devouring Night" mentioned in his mother's dying note.

Trivia

  • The monocle he wears was a gift from the Archbishop. Although it has a lens, it's mostly for show.
