CW: Natural Disaster Benipé is from a historically wealthy family of beldum who owned property in the town of Aria. For years their family benefited both from building wealth in the artsy vacationing town, as well as from the intense cold, which their lines tended to thrive in as the low temperatures increased their magnetic powers. While Benipé grew up communicating silently via magnetism and psychic power amongst their fellow beldum clan members, they were also fortunate in that they got to meet travelers and artists from all over who came to bask in Arias hot springs. This early exposure was what initially sparked Benipés interest in travel and adventure. They spent many days in their youth simply hanging around the hot springs to chat with visitors and vacationers, or learning from the many artists and artisans who called Aria home. But as Benipé grew older and more restless, their family continued to dissuade them, citing that they weren’t experienced enough to be out on their own, and insisting that everything they needed was there within their home town. Their family tended to stick together, and very few deemed a life of ‘adventure’ appropriate (hence why most would remain beldum for their entire lives). Benipé only grew more and more unsettled, hungry for tales from travelers from the outside. On one particular day, they met Pythios, who had been invited to Arias hot springs by a friend he’d made. Benipé spent hours pestering the Goomy for stories from the high seas. Drawn by the descriptions of adventure and treasure hunting, another visiting Pokémon offered a tale of an ancient treasure hidden out in the frozen wastes, not too far away. Benipé, dazzled at the thought of finding themself a treasure, quickly set out to look for it. It wasn’t long before Benipé became trapped out in the wilderness by an incoming blizzard. Even they couldn’t withstand the unrelenting force of the cold for the entire night. Luckily, Phyth had been following them close behind, concerned at how foolhardy the beldum was. With Pythios’ guidance, the two carved out a hollow to keep them warm through the storm, and Pyth guided them safely home afterward. After that, Benipé became attached to Pyth at the hip, always hounding him asking about where he learned this or that, and asking questions about how to survive in the wilderness. Benipé was actually surprised to learn that Pyth was not a rescuer by trade - something which Benipé sought to correct at once. Benipé could easily see how well suited to rescue work the practical, forward thinking Goomy was, pushing him to finally register the two of them as an honest to goodness rescue team. Benipé had been with Pyth ever since, insisting that they’re still learning from their mentor, despite the fact that they are now considered co-leaders.
