Profile
Though his days of rigorous regiments and battling each day for survival are over, Grit remains as distant and stoic as ever. Since before he became a mere disgraced knight hailing from the nomadic Sanguine Strand, Grit has been an enigma to those who cross him. At a glance, he seemingly harbours little love or lenience for those he works with—save for one that is. His co-leader and self-proclaimed partner Hoshikiri insists that Grit is far softer than he lets on. One need only approach the hardened warrior as an equal.

Personality
DevoutWhen you have earned Grit’s respect and admiration, you have earned yourself an incredibly dedicated friend. Grit is fiercely loyal to those he cares for. That list isn’t particularly long at the moment, however...
ResoluteGrit’s resolve is unbreakable. Everything he does, he does with a purpose—one that he will use as a guiding star in his actions. When he puts his mind to it, there isn’t anything he’ll back away from.
KnowledgeableGrit is surprisingly well-traveled for having been from the far-removed Sand Continent. He collects information on each place he goes to, chronicling them in any loose parchments and papers he can find. He knows a little bit about everything (but not necessarily a lot about anything barring his homeland).
Dry
Grit has a very deadpan way of expressing himself. He often comes off sarcastic and cynical, but is able to crack jokes and the like in his flat tones. His mileage varies from person-to-person.
EnigmaticPossibly unintentionally, Grit often under-explains himself when questioned. Due to his more reclusive nature, he doesn’t readily give any information out about himself (or anything he may know) unless he finds reason to or he’s feeling particularly like sharing in that instance. His secrecy lends to a mysterious quality about him that is neither necessarily ‘good’ or ‘bad’, but can be seen as intriguing.
Stubborn
The darker side to his unerring resolution is that Grit can be very stubborn in his ways. He does not back away from a challenge, but it lends to an inability to admit when he’s been bested. This is often to his detriment as it causes him to push himself to limits he may not be able to afford to break.
CallousGrit maintains a very stoic and often outwardly cold demeanour. As with his dry wit and humour (when he expresses it at all), he can come off harsh without honeyed words.
WithdrawnGrit never gives an inch of himself to those he meets. He shies away from others, preferring to keep to himself as he’s new to finding new company outside of those he knew from his homeland. He’s hard to approach, and when he is approached, he doesn’t make for an easy conversation partner.
History
Content Warning Abandonment
Grit, then known as Asher, was born and subsequently abandoned in the Sand Continent as an infant. He was taken in by a nomadic band known as The Sanguine Strand when one of their younger members discovered the bundle on the outskirts of Sahra Town as they were passing through. By order of the Strand’s elders, Asher was given to a warrior hunter who lacked a family himself, to be raised by the man. Though begrudgingly at the time, the man who would become Asher’s father figure—a Metagross named Sentinel—agreed to undertake the duty.
From childhood and well into his adolescence, Asher was trained tirelessly, learning how to hunt and navigate the harsh climes of the desert. Back then, he mostly found solace in the other members of the Sanguine Strand and less so with his father. Though Sentinel had warmed to the boy, the older man was still somewhat distant and was often distracted by his duties as he became the community’s most skilled warrior over the years. The father and son duo would scarcely see each other for more than a few minutes each day, and the time they spent together was often in contemplative and respectful silence outside of their outings into the wilderness.
When he was just 11, Asher was momentarily distracted during a training outing as he stumbled upon an unconscious boy—a Phantump. He and Sentinel brought the stranger back to their encampment, where he was given to the elders to be dealt with. Sentinel had no intention of being given a second protege to take care of, and so he swiftly took his leave and took Asher with him.
Despite Sentinel’s disinterest in yet another young and lost outsider, Asher found himself often colluding with the Phantump boy, who called himself Hoshikiri. Hoshi was somewhat sheltered at the time as they seemed to suffer adverse effects from the desert heat, but they took a particular—and peculiar—interest in Asher. The two became friends, and this helped to involve Hoshi with the other children in the community. To the shock of the members of the Sanguine Strand, Asher’s insistence to surround himself with others seemed to gradually bring Sentinel out of his shell as well.
At the age of 17, Asher was given a test in which he was left three days behind the Strand as they began journeying again and he would need to find his way back to them. Upon the completion of the trial, he was given the name “Grit” for his resolve and exceptional endurance over the years of his training.
At 23, Grit saw Hoshi off to complete a similar task. After three days, however, Hoshi had not yet returned. A full week after the start of Hoshi’s trial, they were declared dead. Unable to accept this, Grit ventured out into the desert to try and find his friend. Though they did eventually stumble into one another, it would be weeks before they were found by Sentinel and returned to the Strand together.
For what he did, Grit was ordered by the community elders to resume his training and take the trial again in a few years as a punishment. Hoshi has been at his side since, but the relationship between the two seemed to become somewhat strained since Hoshi’s trial. They are often quiet around one another, though they still spend most of their time together. Some years into their adulthood, they decided to leave the Strand and the Sand Continent together for reasons mostly unknown to their families.
The odd pair have since found their way to Ethovalon and signed up to become bounty hunters with the Global Communication Setup Foundation, under the team name of “Enochian”.
