History

Anakulos was born in the Bahamas as a distant relative to the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. His mother had left him and his father, leaving him to raise the boy. Tragically, he was murdered, leaving his son to fend for himself in the harsh streets.

Past

He lived his childhood as a thief who'd only cared for himself in order to survive. He grew up to be bitter, resentful and self-absorbed. That was until he was shown kindness for the first time in his life by a young monk, who protected him from a group of thugs. In awe, he followed him in secret back to their monastery. On his knees crying, he begged to join their ranks. He slept there by their temple for nights, being turned down multiple times, before one of the eldest monks came to see him, questioning his resolve to join them, and the harsh lifestyle that monks live. Anakulos did not falter in his resolve, and thus was taken in to be a monk from when he was twelve years old.

Present

When he turned eighteen, Anakulos spontaneously awakened Sun Wukong's 'Cloud Somersault' power, which allowed him to ride on a summoned cloud out of his monastery in order to heed the call to adventure - in addition, he wanted to find Sun Wukong and become his equal. He met Chloe when he took a stop in Florida. The two hit it off and immediately became friends, and Chloe tagged along. They began traveling together to learn about themselves, their worlds, and other cultures that exist outside of theirs. When Chloe realized that Anakulos had been through similar struggles as she, and understood her pain, she opened herself to him in ways that she never would have before. He helped her face and come to terms with what it means to be a Barghest, and why it is such a burden upon her. She helped him realise he should be proud of having his own identity, instead of trying to become identical to Sun Wukong, though he would retain his pride in being a descendant. After spending a few months together exploring and learning new things, Chloe and Anakulos found themselves growing closer than either expected. They both realised that they'd fallen for each other but kept it to themselves for a while. They decided that they wanted to spend time getting to know each other before making any major decisions. They spent several weeks going to new places together to learn more about the world they were part of. After much deliberation, the two finally admitted their feelings towards each other and settled down in Florida, where they had originally met.

Abilities

Constitution [ general abilities ]

While lacking Sun Wukong's immortality and most of the powers to come with it, Anakulos has astounding physical strength, even among his fellow trained monks. He also has a prolonged lifespan - most of his predecessors on Wukong's side lived to be about 150 years old. He also has the ability to make clones from his hair like Wukong, but he can only make three.

Weapons [ bowstaff and circlet ]

Anakulos normally uses his bowstaff; it is a pretty normal one that was given to him from the monastery's weapon supply. However, the circlet he wears on his head is a family heirloom, and it cannot be removed by anyone save himself. It has the ability to split into two bracelets, which he will wear on his wrists, giving him divine strength in his fists. But it takes a toll on his body and is painful to fight with, so he can't use it often. It makes his fist glow with astral power.

Heavenly Sage Cultivation [ bloodline awakened ]

If Anakulos is under attack near death and focuses on overcoming his fear of dying or losing others, he will spontaneously awaken the immortal blood deep within him and enter Heavenly Sage Cultivation. His eyes will glow pure gold, and he will regain all vigor and strength for a short time. He gains the acrobatics of a monkey, and will leap around in this feral way, biting and clawing opponents. He may also use his wrist circlets without interference. Afterwards, he will enter a state of zen meditation to heal his wounds.
