Personality

Cola believes there's nothing more fulfilling in life than a hard day's work. Without fail she works at the Papa Bones Garage as its sole mechanic each and every day. This is out of both a genuine passion for the work she does, helping repair and modify any vehicle brought into her shop with a keen enthusiasm, and a strong sense of duty. Having unexpectedly been named the garage's sole owner in her late father's will, she pressures herself to uphold the shop's reputation as a sign of respect towards him. Cola's self-imposed moral obligation in this instance puts a tremendous amount of pressure on herself, not helped by the strained relationship the inheritance triggered with her brothers, though she is not consciously aware of just how much this affects her.

Cola's obliviousness is definitely notable, as noted with the aforementioned stress. Her workaholic nature, which comes from genuine enthusiasm, can make her come across as very serious and fierce at times, unwittingly giving people the impression that she's quite arrogant and irritable, which is not the case at all. In fact, while she does let certain things, particularly disrespect towards her late father, get under her skin, it's actually quite hard to get Cola actually angry rather than just kind of peeved. Even her brothers, who by all means hate her, don't really manage to get her to stoop to their level.

This all stems from a problem she has reading other people; while she is very intelligent and skilled in her field, she has very poor social wisdom. She's very gullible and easy to manipulate, as the idea that someone could be lying to her rarely even crosses her mind. Often times she'll be swindled by less familiar customers into accepting non-monetary payments for her services... ('free' soda is a big favourite).

Her enthusiasm and hard-working determination are by no means negative qualities, of course. She's super reliable and will always works to the best of her ability for anyone depending on her. She bonds easily with her customers and rarely forgets anything important they might share with her, though she can be oblivious as to when they cross the threshold from 'acquaintance' to 'friend', it's usually up to the other party to say so to turn the cogs in her head for her. She's fiercely loyal to the close friends she does have, even if she can be a bit blunt to them about their own shortcomings unknowingly. Nevertheless, she appreciates them so much and will stand up for them when need be without any hesitation.

Misc.

  • Her favourite beverage is cola.

Background

Cola was bought the fourth child and only daughter of Papa Bones, a former racecar superstar who retired for the quiet life of a mechanic in Melon Springs, and his wife. Just an infant when Papa retired, she was the only one of the four to have been raised more modestly from the flashy lifestyle of a sports superstar that her elder brothers had previously enjoyed. Consequently she was a lot more down-to-earth and not as spoiled than them, which pleased her father immensely, the effect his lavish fame had had on his family being a key reason he chose to retire, thus sparking an early favouritism in her over his sons.

She found a best friend in childhood in a local racing fan her age, Sloane, whom she bestowed the nickname Slo-Mo, who admired her father. As the pair grew older however, Slo-Mo started acting differently towards her and eventually the pair lost touch altogether, for reasons she doesn't understand to this day. She became very lonely without her best friend and her father, feeling sorry for her, began spending a lot of time with her in the garage, teaching her about the trade in a lot more depth than her foolhardy brothers had the patience for. These years working by his side truly ignited her passion for the work and she decided her ambition was to become just as skilled as Papa one day.

By the time she entered adulthood however, her beloved father had grown old, and eventually he passed away. Though the family and locals had all expected that her three brothers to inherit the Papa Bones Garage, his will shockingly revealed that he had named Cola as his official successor, declaring his sons too arrogant and lazy to trust with the responsibility of running the shop. Despite being as surprised and confused by this unexpected revelation as anyone else, Cola found herself the subject of anger and jealousy from her brothers, who felt betrayed and snubbed. The three refused to work under her and left her to run the shop on its own, all but spitting on their fathers legacy out of spite.

Synopsis

Dealing with her new circumstances as best she can, Cola now finds herself working hard to keep the shop afloat with only a few close friends as office staff, win back the trust of the customers scared away by the unexpected change of ownership, uphold her father's legacy, and achieve her dream of surpassing his skills.

Willie

Cola and Willie are the best of friends, despite not having known one another for all that long, having met when the former rescued the latter from an aggressive creep who turned out to be her former friend Slo-Mo. The two just have a natural chemistry that allow them to play off one another and they simply enjoy nattering to one another in their downtime about whatever crosses their mind. Cola enjoys how energetic she is in spite of her size, but often worries for her in this regard, constantly having to rescue Willie from her own clumsiness. Willie meanwhile adores Cola as a stern, powerful and heroic figure, who she feels indebted to for helping her so much, having saved her from Slo-Mo's aggression and giving her a job as the garage's secretary.

Bun

Cola hired Bun to run the garage's accounting, since she's not very good at it herself. The little guy has his work cut out for him.

Slo-Mo

Sloane was Cola's closest friend in childhood, the two scrappy tykes often getting into mischief together. Though they'd often have petty disagreements, they'd both feel bad and make up the next day. For reasons unknown to Cola however, Slo-Mo eventually became short-tempered with her and soon began avoiding her altogether, saddening her immensely. The two lost touch until adulthood, when Cola took over the garage. The two's relationship remains fractured, Slo-Mo still remaining short-tempered and rude to her and Cola likewise thinks he's becoming very cocky and self-absorbed. There still remains a bond of care between the two, however strained, but both find themselves now reluctant to admit so, particularly as Cola continues to be unaware of why he severed their friendship in the first place.
