Firetail

Firetail is an elder of WindClan. He is the son of Darkstorm and Dappledawn, and the brother of Monarchstar. He is best friends with Soakedears, and the two of them befriended Iceslide when they were all apprentices. He and Soakedears found a tunnel full of rabbits and kept it a secret to impress Gladestar by bringing back the most prey. He struggled and fought with his Clan against Bone Shred's rogues.

After Bone Shred's defeat, Firetail mentored Blazinglight. He later became the mate of Leopardnose and fathered Budpaw and Briarpaw before receiving another apprentice, Mothpaw. 

During this time, Firetail was caught in a tunnel collapse by Rosemary's cats, and the experience of almost being buried alive traumatized him. He had a more difficult time catching prey, and so after Mothshadow became a warrior, he gladly retired to the elders' den.

"We always bring back the most prey. We want Gladestar to think we're the best hunters in the Clan. With my sister as deputy, I've got to do something to get noticed."

Firetail and Soakedears are the clowns of WindClan. He is friendly, optimistic, and likes to have fun. His best friend is Soakedears.

Kithood

Firekit was born in WindClan to Darkstorm and Dappledawn alongside his sister, Monarchkit.

Apprenticeship

Firepaw and Soakedpaw met Icepaw of RiverClan at a gathering and became friends with him. (Beyond the River, chapter 2)

Warrior

Firetail became a warrior. He and Soakedears remained best friends.

Firetail and Soakedears say hello to Iceslide at the border. Iceslide asks how the prey is running in WindClan, and Firetail responds with a purr that it's fast as always, and green-leaf has been good to them. They then say goodbye to each other. (Beyond the River, chapter 2)

Secret Tunnel

Firetail is standing with Soakedears at the gathering when Iceslide calls out to Firetail. The three greet one another, and Iceslide bumps heads with Firetail. Soakedears tells him that last moon, he and Firetail found a tunnel with tons of rabbits in it. Firetail urges him to keep his voice down, as they're keeping it a secret. Firetail explains that because of the tunnel, they always bring back the most prey, and Gladestar thinks they're the best hunters in the Clan. Firetail comments that with his sister as deputy, he has to do something to get noticed. (Beyond the River, chapter 6)

When Pinetail roasts Strawberryspots, Firetail hisses to Iceslide in amusement that he can't believe she said that and didn't get her fur ripped off. (Beyond the River, chapter 6)

When Gladestar speaks for WindClan, she says that their bellies are full thanks to their skilled warriors, looking at Firetail and Soakedears as she says so. They straighten proudly, and Iceslide is amused. At the end of the gathering, Iceslide jokingly tells Firetail and Soakedears to keep being the "skilled warriors" that they are. Firetail winks and says they will before he and Soakedears say goodbye.(Beyond the River, chapter 6)

Bone Shred's Attacks

At the gathering, Iceslide senses the tension and starts to ask Firetail what's going on. Firestar shh's him, as the leaders are starting to speak. (Beyond the River, chapter 19)

Firetail participates in battle when Bone Shred's rogues attack the WindClan camp. After the battle ends and the RiverClan cats arrive to help, Iceslide races over to where Soakedears is crouched over Firetail and asks if they're okay. Soakedears says that Firetail is hurt badly. Firetail insists he's fine, though he's coughing and shivering. Blood pools under him from wounds in his shoulder and chest. He tells Iceslide that he should have seen the other guy. (Beyond the River, chapter 22)

Mentor

Following Bone Shred's defeat, Firetail became the mentor of Blazingpaw. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 1)

When Driftrunner sprains his paw, Gladestar has Petalpaw train with Firetail and Blazingpaw while he recovers. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 3)

At a Clan meeting, Firetail and Soakedears speak to each other, looking amused as if one of them told a joke. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 5)

Firetail is one of the few cats to attend Icetail's vigil. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 8)

At dusk, Firetail and Soakedears are having a friendly debate on who the best hunter is. Firetail is shocked when Tornadopaw talks back to Gladestar. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 10)

Warrior Duties

Monarchwing is assigning Jaystreak, Howlstorm, Dandeliontail, and Firetail to a patrol. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 11)

Firetail is on Thunderjolt's patrol at sunrise to remark the ShadowClan border with Whitehare, Wetbelly, and Clovernose. When Clovernose comments that medicine cats are too soft for patrols, Firetail and Whitehare shoot her a startled glare. As the patrol moves on, Firetail waves his tail to Starfaith. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 13)

Firetail speaks with Scorchwater before Mistybreeze warns WindClan of Deserve's attack. As the soldiers attack, Firetail and Soakedears bat at Tornadowind and another soldier. (Mistybreeze's Choice, chapter 17)

Firetail becomes the mate of Leopardnose and fathers Budpaw and Briarpaw. Shortly afterwards, he receives Mothpaw as an apprentice (Winds of Darkness)

Firetail kindly tells Mothpaw that he did well with his training today, and tomorrow they'll go over more hunting techniques. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 6)

Tunnel Collapse

Firetail is out hunting with Thunderjolt and Mothpaw. They followed a couple rabbits into their burrow when suddenly Rosemary's cats stomp above them and cause a tunnel collapse, nearly burying them alive, but they escape. They try to fight but are exhausted from the struggle, and Rosemary's cats give them some wounds before retreating. Firetail is deeply shaken by the experience of being unable to breathe under the earth. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 10)

As Hazelfrost tells Sandykit, Hootkit, and Mistykit about Bone Shred's defeat, Firetail overhears and joins them, warmly explaining that Iceslide was a fun and irresponsible cat, but when it came to saving all the Clans, he proved he was a true warrior. The kits are surprised to hear he was friends with a RiverClan cat. Firetail explains that a friendship between Clans can put a strain on loyalty to your own Clanmates. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 14)

Retirement

Since the tunnel collapse, Firetail is having trouble focusing and misses prey more than usual. After his apprentice, Mothshadow, is made a warrior, Firetail decides to retire to the elders' den. The Clan is understanding and supportive, and Firetail is happy and relieved to never have to go in a rabbit burrow again. Leopardnose licks his cheek and purrs it won't be long before she joins him, but she'll miss hunting together. Budheart and Briarstream tell him they've already made him a nest in the elders' den, and Hazelfrost is looking forward to a new denmate. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 18)

After the attack on Willowtail's search party, Firetail thinks no patrol is safe anymore and has a bad feeling about Duskpaw. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 23)

Firetail and Hazelfrost help Gingerfrost bury Dewstorm. Later that day, Firetail is happy when Leopardnose decides to retire and join him in the elders' den. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 25)
