Nio

"It's not fair. I don't care if you're supposed to protect me - but what the hell are you going to get out of this? My safety? That's all you care about?! It's not right... that you're willing to deal with the gang while I'm just standing around doing NOTHING."

- Leng

Since he grew attached to Nero, who spent his times everyday by his side, Leng becomes concern for Nero's willingness to protect him and proceeds to endanger himself. Soon after, Leng begs his father to let him temporarily leave the Triad to finish his school somewhere else with Nero by his side - specifically somewhere peaceful so that nothing could possibly threaten them.

Leng's father sent his teenagers across the border into the United States in a brand new school, where both Leng and Nero had new aliases under the name of Lin and Nio. Being new students in the middle of their sophomore year, along with being surrounded by brand new students and no one to recognized, they were often reserved and closed away from anyone who attempted to make friends with them. Especially when the triad's continuous chain of suspicious activity, they were having a hard time trusting anyone - classmate or teachers.

Because of it, both of them had a hard time trying to attach themselves from school at the start, especially Nio, who felt like skipping classes at times with Lin - to explore the campus or hang around for the hell of it.
Until one day, a small gal discovered their tattoos - especially Lin's, who was hellbent in trying to cover them to hide it away from the public - they were afraid of their classmate exposing the two to the campus. And despite Emery's reassurance that she wouldn't tell a soul about it, they were constantly on her inside and outside of school until they deemed her trustworthy. Nio, especially, found it rather hard to trust her for the longest of time until she was there to help the two of them when they were in the verge of being caught by the police.

In the end, they entered the wonderful little circle of friends that Emery created. Since sophomore, the whole group were always bunched up together in campus and spent the rest of their years together until they graduated.

"I... can't handle this, Nio. I'm can't see you like this! Am I really worth it?! For you to almost die just so I could be safe? What... would I be if you're not here with me? I didn't spend all this time begging for my dad to have you stay with me here just so I could feel safer. All I wanted you was for you to be safe from pain, and you're just constantly running towards death!"

- Lin

After high school, Nio had little interests in pursing academics as a full-fledged adult. However, Lin and the rest of their friends wanted to and seemed obligated in being at a University to continue his education - to learn as much as he could for the triad. 

Therefore Nio would withdraw from his friends for temporary times (typically when the semesters are in session), he'd find ways to make money as a rising UFC champion. But before he could get his recognition through his long, consecutive wins in the ring, he ended up crossing the border to go back to the Laohu Triad when his father was recovering from casualties. Thus, periods of Nio disappearing are quite often because Nio would be away on carrying on missions as the Triad's "Deputy" in place of his father, who becomes weaker over age.

But the longer he was in the Triad, the more paranoid he becomes about Lin's wellbeing. Without him to protect his beloved friend - he wouldn't be able to save him whenever he's in any form of danger. Nio works so excessively to be able to go back to Lin, though his health dwindled and his body completely exhausted from overwork. Both Lin and Nio's arguments regarding Nio's wellbeing would be more common and more heated every time to a point where they separated themselves for a long period. Despite Lin wanted Nio to leave him be, he would occasionally watch Leng from the shadows overtime.
It took years, after Lin had graduated from University, for them to reconnect. Nio almost lost his life trying to protect Lin and his father during their celebration of his success and was sent to the hospital in a coma for months. Afterwards, he only awakened in the hospital bed with Lin and his friends at his side. He made a complete recovery.

Lin took Nio with him when he wanted to travel the world, hence they were the first to leave their friend circle. Nowadays, both of them will appear occasionally to visit their friends or they needed to attend any sort of Laohu Triad business back at home. Otherwise, the both of them had plans to continue traveling the world together until it was time for them to come back for Lin to be appointed as the newest Dragon Head.

• Nero was born to learn how to fight for the Triad, solely to protect the next Triad Leader, Leng. Leng is also his closest friend and the only person he could get along with.
• Leng, concerned for Nero's safety, decided that they were hide themselves and remain away from any Triad business until they were older. They changed their names to Nio and Lin and attended a public school in America.
• Emery was the first classmate to find out about Nio and Lin's hidden identities, but it lead to the two joining her group of friends. They all remained together until Lin entered University.
• Nio was the only one to not go to University and decided that he'll go back to the Triad to take his father's place as Deputy until he's recovered.
• Nio and Lin got into a heated argument, that led to their separation. Soon after, Nio almost died protecting Lin, but he survived and recovered his wounds soon after.
• The both of them decided to spend the rest of their years traveling the world and away from the Triad yet again until it was time for Lin to take over.
