Nhil grew up in an ordinary drow civilization. She increasingly felt that something was off with the way everyone behaved and expected others to behave.
At the age of 74, ran away from her home and society, and didn't stop running until she was almost a nights run away from the cavern entrence.
After a day, she stumbled upon a small village. Upon trying to get in contact with the people living there, she was faced with prejudice and hatred at her drow herritage. She quickly fled towards the woods.
While stumbling through the woods, Nhil set off a trap, and was captured in a hanging net. After some time passes, another figure appears, scratching their head. Upon taking off their hood, Nhil spots a similar pair of ears such as herself, albeit with a different skin colour. The stranger, wary of the drow, aimed their weapon at Nhil, threathening her to declare her reasoning for lurking inside her forest.
Seeing the arrow aimed at her, Nhil felt dejected once again, ready to give up, and told the stranger to just get it over with. Confused by her statement, the stranger lowered the arrow slightly, and asked what had gotten into her head - she was about the get killed, why doesn't she react?! Nhil told the stranger a tale of her life, from growing up within the harsh expectations of the drow, to the hatred she experienced towards her once she go to the surface. The stranger, introducing herself as Phallaeh, told her stories shared on the surface about the drow, to try to explain why people reacted to Nhil the way they did. Horrified, Nhil began crying, the feeling of no longer belonging anywhere catching up to her. Trying to calm her down, Phallaeh told the young drow that for the time being, Nhil could stay with her, to which Nhil accepted. After getting her down from the trap, Phallaeh guided her towards a little cabin up in the trees.
What was suppoused to be only for a short while, ended up lasting much, much longer. Nhil and Phallaeh lived together in the little cabin, where Phallaeh continued to teach Nhil about the world above, from history to various plants. She was quick to get to use what she learned about herbs and medicine to treat Phallaeh after her various hunting trips, as the latter proved to be somewhat recless.
After Phallaeh returned from on one of these trips, she informed Nhil of the arrival of a group of elves in the forest. At first Nhil was alarmed, but Phallaeh reassured her that everything would be fine, as the group had settled quite far away from the cabin. This didn't do much to calm Nhil down, as she had grown up with stories of what sun elves would do to drows, should they ever catch one. During one Phallaeh's hunting trips, Nhil went outside to gather some herbs that they were beginning to run low of, she was spotted by one of the new elves. By the time she noticed, there were already three closing in on her. Not knowing what else to do, she began running away, shouting for help. She eventually stumbled on one of the roots, and her persuers soon caught up to her, surrounding her. As one of them tries to step closer to Nhil, however, an arrow lands right in front of their feets. "I wouldn't step any closer, " Phallaeh said, and made her prescence from up in the trees known to the sun elves. The sun elves asked Phallaeh why a wood elf, or rather, an elf, would bother protecting a drow. Phallaeh, in response, asked the elves why they weren't in their hometown. When the elves couldn't answer, she simply stated that all those currently living in the woods had some reason to leave behind their homes. After some dissatisfied noises, the elves looked at each other, and left.
After they were gone, Phallaeh jumped down, and made sure Nhil was fine. However, not a second after Nhil said she was indeed fine, Phallaeh collapsed. Scared, Nhil inspected Phallaeh's body, and found a growing spot of red on her side. Phallaeh told her that a branch she had stood on earlier fell down, and she had landed in a rather bad position, before she lost consciousness. Nhil quickly lifted Phallaeh up, and lifted one of her arms around her shoudlers, and carried her back towards the cabin. Being unable to lift her up to the cabin, Nhil climbed up to fetch what she needed, and hurried to treat Phallaeh. As Nhil finished up her treatment, Phallaeh woke up, thanking Nhil for healing her up again. At the sight of her friend waking up, Nhil hugged Phallaeh, pleading the latter to please be more careful.
A few years after the clash between them and the sun elves, Phallaeh informed Nhil that, during her trip into the nearest human village, Phallaeh had recieved a letter from her home, asking her to attend a very important meeting. Being sure that Nhil could fend for herself after having recieved basic training with a sword after the meeting with the sun elves (Phallaeh wanted to be sure that if Nhil encountered the sun elves, or anyone else, Nhil wouldn't have to rely on Phallaeh coming to her rescue), she told Nhil that the meeting shouldn't take too long, and left.
As if having sensed the change of people within the forest, Nhil encountered one of the sun elves fairly close to the cabin. After demanding to know what that person was doing so far from their group, the stranger fell to their knees, exhaustion catching up to them. Confused by this action, Nhil was about to take a step closer before the stranger asked if she could help their group. Appearently, most of the elves had fallen sick with some unknown disease. Unsure whether to trust the stranger or not, Nhil eventually decides to follow the sun elf back to their group to see if she can help, reminding the elf that she might not be able to help.
Upon arriving to the sun elf camp, Nhil is met with a horrible scene. Several elves laying around on the ground with a varying amount of blisters , being tended to by a vastly fewer amount of elves, trying their best to help and still be on their own two feet. Going to the closest infected, she tries to get a closer look at the blisters, but the elf in question backs away, upon which Nhil recognizes it as one of the ones that persued her a few years ago. Trying to reassure them that she means no harm, she fails, and the one asked for her to come lays a hand on her shoulder, shaking her head.
The elf instead led her towards one of the larger tents, informing her to try to be on her best behaviour. Upon walking in, Nhil saw a much elder elf sitting in front of a fairly decorated bed, head lowered. One of the other elves inside gasped sligthly at the sight of the drow, which maked the elder elf turn around, slowly and gracefully. As he walked closer to Nhil, she spotted a much younger elf than herself laying on the bed, face full of blisters similar to the elves outside. The elder elf introduced himself as Farnorin, the one in charge of the settlement. He continued to explain the situation on hand, on how suddenly his son seemed to get an illness, and how it spread through the group. Nhil informed him that she can make no guarantees, but she can at least try her best, to which Farnorin agrees, but warns her that if his son's life is lost, she will be the one to pay.
Finally being able to get a closer look at the illness, she noticed that the symptoms at display seemed eerily similar to touching (and, god forbid, ingesting) a certain type of plant Phallaeh warned her about during her first days living with her. Upon asking Farnorin about the possibility of interaction with the plant, Farnorin, along with the other elves present, don't know about the plant at all, possibly making it only grown within this forest. Following the instruction Phallaeh taught her on how to cure it if she ever came in contact with it, she applied the medicine on the blisters on the kid. Some minutes later, the kid opened his eyes, and ran for his father, saying that it doesn't hurt anymore. Embracing his son, Farnorin thanked Nhil.
Nhil informed the elves that were treating the ill elves about the cause and how to treat it, and little while later, most elves in the camp were cured. Before she manages to leave, however, she's blocked off by one of the elves that persued her a few years ago, accusing her to be the cause of the illness. Nhil rejects the statement, and as the elf was about to grab her, Farnorin sternly tells the elf to stop embarrassing the settlement. Grumbling, the elf walked away, vanishing into the crowd that had begun gathering around Nhil.
On behalf of the camp, Farnorin thanked Nhil, and promised her that she was more than welcome to return to the camp. To make sure that the newer generation, those who might not have seen the illness in person, wouldn't try to kill her on sight, Farnorin gave Nhil an amulet with a symbol of a flower. The amulet, Farnorin explains, is a symbol of the Amastacia family, only given to members of the family, and those who protects it. Unable to keep her composure, Nhil begins crying, overjoyed that someone appreciates her and what she does. Initially surprised by her reaction, Farnorin pets her head, as if to acknowledge the drow's past struggles.
The days after this event, Nhil kept in regular contact with Farnorin while waiting on Phallaeh to return. As the elf had promised, she returned not too long after, though it seemed like something had changed within her.
Whatever had seemed changed within Phallaeh after her return, quickly diminished, or she managed to hide it. Nonetheless, after having informed Phallaeh of what had happened during her abscence, Phallaeh praised Nhil on how she had handled the situation.
Years went by, and both Nhil and Phallaeh kept in contact with the sun elf camp. On one evening, as the two stayed there to eat dinner along with Farnorin and his son, Rael, Farnorin asked the two elves on how old they really were. He himself was nearing 400 years old, but their appearence seemed to tell that they couldn't be too old, and yet they lived in such a dangerous place alone. Phallaeh told him that she was around 170 years old, while Nhil quietly said that she would be turning 105 in just a few weeks. Both of them were surprised at Nhil's age, especially considering that she was much younger when she left behind her home. After thinking for a while, Farnorin asked Nhil whether her current name was her child name or her adult - as long as he had known her, she could very well be an adult or not. Confused, Nhil asked what the difference between the two were, as she had never really understood why she would need to take a new name just because she suddenly got older.
As Farnorin explains the difference between a child and an adult name, Nhil begins to think what her name would be. As well as what her current name means: Fear. All she could think of, despite liking the sound of "Nhil", she didn't quite like the meaning. Through the dinner, as the conversation moved on to more merrier topics, Nhil couldn't stop thinking of what her name wwould be.
As Phallaeh and Nhil made their way back to the cabin after dinner, Nhil stops just as the cabin comes into view. Noticing this, Phallaeh turnes around, and asks her what's going on. A grin comes on Nhil's face, as she tells Phallaeh that she has finally figured out what her adult name would be; Umraeyl. Smiling back, Phallaeh hugged Nhil, congratulating her for becoming an adult. Deciding to celebrate her becoming-an-adult, the two made a small dessert out of the fruits and berries they had stored for a special occasion, and spent much of the night stargazing up at higher branches above the cabin.
