Profile
Kiyosumi is a very logical and reasonable man with a strong common sense. He is extremely practical and excellent at management. Though he doesn't think so, he is a natural leader with the charisma to guide others. His goal is always to better himself in order to please others. Because he has always been "second-best," he has developed a inferiority complex and a rather pessimistic opinion of himself. The opinions of others matter greatly to him and he tries his hardest to impress others. Validation by others makes him feel extremely good. Though he has many good points, Kiyosumi fails to see them and often falls into moods where he feels like he's letting others down. He loves abiding by rules and makes sure to follow them accurately, even if they aren't neccessarily the best.
Kiyosumi has extremely pale skin with a pink tint to it. Two long, thin horns protrude from the top of his forehead. He has short, blue hair with matching ears and tails. There is a braided lock of hair wrapped around each of his ears. He has sharp, sapphire blue eyes with two small blue dots under each eye. He has sharp upper canines. Kiyo usually wears traditional clothing, consisting of a dark blue kimono with a white obi, a blue hakama and geta. On his off days, he will wear something more casual like a yukata. He has the birthmark (二) on the back of his neck.
Kiyosumi grew up in the same village as Mahiro. As the son of the head of the village, Mahiro was first in line to be the next chief, while Kiyosumi was second in line. Though his parents had his best interests in mind, they were extremely strict on Kiyosumi's education, ensuring that their son would have a better chance of becoming village chief. Kiyosumi was extremely pressured and tried his best to please his parents, but his close friendship with Mahiro prevented him from seeing him as as rival. As if he was cursed, whatever Kiyosumi did, he would come in second place whether that be academics, athletics, etc. His parents were proud of him, but he felt extremely upset that he couldn't achieve being #1, thus developing an inferiority complex. When he heard that Mahiro was planning on leaving the village and would be leaving the position of chief to him, he was more devastated than happy. Even though now he had achieved his goal of becoming chief, Kiyosumi felt as if he wasn't qualified or had the skillset in order to help the village remain prosperous. Mahiro ensured that he would be a perfect leader and introduced him to the conduit of that Gods, Mikoto. Mikoto, immediately smitten with Kiyosumi's appearance and charisma, deemed him a worthy leader and blessed him with the spirit of the Yōko. Kiyosumi grew horns and two extra tails, symbolizing the approval of the Gods. He is still unsure of his abilities, but with the gentle encouragement of Mikoto, he has become an excellent chief of the village.
Mikoto is in love with Kiyosumi and desperately trying to court him. Kiyo can't deny that he is incredibly attracted to Mikoto, but he is hesistant about being in a relationship with Mikoto because of how much of a revered figure Mikoto is in their village. He doesn't seem to understand what Mikoto sees in him and feels as if he isn't worthy of Mikoto's love. He very much enjoys Mikoto's company though. Around him, Kiyo feels free and uninhibited in his actions and can act normally around him. Kiyo thinks very highly of Mikoto (and essentially worships him).
Mahiro is Kiyosumi's distant cousin and childhood friend. Kiyo respects and looks up to Mahiro greatly. As a child, he was often compared to Mahiro, but he feels no animosity towards him. In fact, he respects Mahiro so much to the point of hero worship. When they were children, Kiyo was very hesitant about everything, but Mahiro lead him along and helped him become more open and adventurous. When Mahiro decided to leave the village and the position of next-in-line village chief to him, Kiyo was devastated. Now, Kiyo has come to terms with Mahiro's choice and has learnt to be more self-confident and take his role with pride. He often visits Mahiro and Seishi.
Kiyosumi has mixed feelings towards Seishi. He hates that Seishi has "stolen" Mahiro from him, but he can't deny how happy Seishi makes Mahiro. When he found out that Mahiro had basically become Seishi's housekeeper, he was livid. To Kiyo, being a housekeeper was a job below Mahiro's standing. When he confronted Seishi, he realized he completely misunderstood. He thought that Seishi had forced him to do menial labour, but Mahiro is taking care of Seishi on his own volition and is living a far happier life than he did at their village. He grudgingly accepted their relationship, but still returns to visit to cling to Mahiro and make Seishi jealous.
