Personality

Yun Xi is someone who has very strong views and doesn’t hesitate to voice his opinion on what he thinks is right and wrong when he deems necessary, especially when standing up for people who he believes have been wronged in some way. He is a naturally passionate person who at times finds it difficult and frustrating to contain his enthusiasm. He doesn’t like feeling restrained or tied down, and often acts on his own set of rules. He also has a relatively bad temper and gets into heated arguments often, as he hates to back down during a fight.

When in the public eye, she tends to act in a reserved manner and doesn’t typically engage in conversation with others unless spoken to or provoked. This is because she at times cannot accept that she is inherently bubbly and easily excitable, due to that same personality being shunned by his classmates in elementary school, and is secretly afraid of history repeating itself. 

He often puts up a strong front and doesn’t like to be seen as vulnerable and an ‘easy target’, and thus strongly believes that he doesn’t need anyone around him to feel fulfilled, and doesn’t typically seek out people to befriend. Despite this, he still has the desire to form emotional bonds with others whether he admits it or not, and after entering Yumenosaki, he begins to open up involuntarily to those who he knows shows genuine care towards him.

She has a tendency to pass judgement on people easily, and only pursues and talks to people she thinks are interesting and 'fascinating enough' in her own words. Though she often acts in a childish and sporadic manner, her thinking is much more mature and complex, and she can easily sense shifts in a persons mood when she communicates with them

history

Early years

In his childhood, Yun Xi spent most of his day alone due to the nature of his parents work. Her parents, knowing their family situation, trained her to be independent and taught her to take care of herself and others in hopes that she could handle being left at home while they worked, especially since they had another baby on the way. Though, since Yun Xi was by nature, an extremely hyperactive and fiery child, she felt constantly emotionally suppressed at home, and when she tried to express even a fraction of her feelings or thoughts to her parents, they would mostly shrug her off and show little interest in whatever she tried to convey to them. 

Yun Xi’s inherent need yet lack of a listening ear led to him developing attention seeking behaviour, which presented itself primarily in his elementary school. He would be quick to lash out at people who he disliked when slightly provoked, and tried to stand up for those being bullied, which would lead to him being named as a ‘telltale’ and a ‘teacher’s pet’, despite his good intentions. Those who tried to befriend her despite her reputation eventually left her due to being unable to handle her enthusiastic yet blunt character. Like kids do, they did not try to explain why Yun Xi’s harsh words hurt them at times and eventually distanced themselves from him, leaving him to wonder why he was never well liked.

Due to his upbringing and the bad memories he has associated with school, Yun Xi had internalised the idea that he was the only person who would be willing to care for his own wellbeing, and started to detest the idea of being helped or pitied by others, always putting up a strong front in front of others. Despite these flawed perceptions, he still cared immensely for those he loved, which included his parents and younger sister. He would often be his sister’s caretaker while his parents were out working, and was extremely fond of her. 

Pre-Yumenosaki 

In junior high, Yun Xi had adopted the persona of a recluse and requested her parents to allow her to be homeschooled. Though his parents were initially disapproving, they eventually agreed as despite their negligence, they still loved Yun Xi and wanted her to be happy. When he was 13-14, he spent most of his days in the house and picked up crochet in his free time from making plushies for his mother and sister, as he knew they both loved them. He still craved his parents’ approval and attention, but approached it from the more orthodox way of presenting his achievements to them, focusing much of his effort on honing his skills and studying for assessments. He never once blamed his parents for the way they treated him, and could not see their negligence as anything more than an ‘appropriate response’ to his own perceived inadequacy. 

In Yun Xi’s final year of junior high, she came across a video of an idol unit performing on stage, which lit a flame in her heart. She began to learn the choreography of various idol songs and even attempted to choreograph several short pieces. He also started participating in online culture and despite being unfamiliar with it initially, he started becoming more comfortable in expressing his opinion behind the screen and grew to indulge in arguing with online users he disagreed with. Though it was through social media that led him to befriending Hotaru online, and was then introduced to Yumenosaki by him. The two then agreed to enrol in the school together.

After passing the entrance exams, Yun Xi didn’t initiate conversation with anyone in the school outside of Hotaru, and would try her best to go unnoticed by the student population. Though after Sora befriended her, she started to understand the value in interpersonal relationships, something that she has been lacking all her life. He grew to accept the person he was under his facade, yet kept the persona for convenience purposes, only ever revealing his true personality to his closest friends or behind a screen. Despite this, he has started to become comfortable with expressing his opinions and doesn’t hold back criticism on what he thinks is wrong, thanks to his strong sense of morality.

Trivia

• He has an ongoing feud with undead’s choreographer due to him having strong opposition towards undead’s performances being called choreographed
• He is scared of any flying insects except for butterflies
• She was originally supposed to be in a mixed gender idol unit, however she left on her own will nearing their debut date, due to complications within the group
• She was recommended by sora to Tsumugi to be hired as a choreographer for Newdi
• She likes to try many new things but is hardly consistent in any of them
• He learnt lace knitting from Shu 
• He can crochet but not knit, and has made stuffed toys for Sora, Tori and Midori, and has talked about making one for Tsukasa’s birthday
• Her favourite Vocaloid is Flower 
• She likes to exercise for the sake of gaining muscle
• She switches between pronouns when referring to herself, using watashi (私) most often, and ore (俺) when arguing with others
