Personality

Aika has a running gag of pretending to be a chuunibyou in order to conceal the real reason why he wears an eyepatch. They can never settle on one identity and claim to be different things all the time (e.g. a god of love, a demon, a witch) and can never be serious when talking about it. 

Outside of this, Aika is a very friendly and loving child who has a good sense of humour and often showers his friends with affection in whatever way they see fit, be it physical touch, gifts or words of affirmation. Having to learn twice as hard how to make friends with other people, Aika developed great interpersonal skills. They enjoy being around others and are willing to assume both the roles of listener or talker depending on who he is talking to. 

Aika however has a history of low self-esteem and although he is outwardly friendly and enthusiastic around his peers, they often find it hard to take initiative in any group or club, and considers himself to be lesser of a person and idol than others. He often compares himself to other idols who have been in the field much longer than they have and feels inferior as a student and idol.

Early years

Aika lived most of their life with their father as his mother passed away due to cancer when he was only 4 years old. A while before Aika’s 5th birthday, his father was driving along a cliffside when his father momentarily let go of the steering wheel. The car went off the trail and crashed, and a piece of glass that broke on impact got lodged in Aika's right eye which caused the loss of his vision in one eye. Their father had to be admitted to a psych ward for half a year while Aika stayed with their aunt’s family. From the trauma of the incident, Aika never talked about it to any of his classmates, and being so young, his classmates started to make fun of his facial scars, which caused him to develop a low self-esteem. During that time, they would cope with his struggles by drawing, an activity that Seiji, Aika’s cousin, would encourage Aika to do together with him. His family also decided to enrol both Seiji and Aika into singing lessons, which they both wholeheartedly enjoyed. Whenever they were feeling down as a kid, he would immerse himself in their hobbies, which would make their troubles disappear temporarily. 

In elementary school, Aika started wearing an eyepatch to school, as requested by his aunt. From this, he started to feel more comfortable about presenting themself to others, and slowly started to talk to more of his peers, especially with whoever seiji was friends with. The two were very close-knit and were never seen without each other. This was partly because seiji was told by his parents to keep a close eye on Aika due to them being worried about their emotional state and development. One day during lessons, Aika’s classmate asked him if he was covering his eye to conceal his “powers”. From then on, Aika assumed the position of a “chuunibyou” in order to conceal the true reason behind him wearing an eyepatch, something that he would continue doing even in junior high and eventually in yumenosaki. 

Pre-Yumenosaki 

After moving back in with his father in the middle of his elementary school years, Aika’s father did all that he could to rekindle their relationship, as well as to be there for Aika after the trauma he suffered during his formative years. The two continued to live a relatively stable life. Aside from Aika occasionally being made fun of for wearing an eyepatch, most of his classmates either were on good terms with Aika or left them alone. 

Around this time, Seiji and Aika started to talk about their aspirations for the future. Seiji proclaimed that he was going to become an idol in the future, and when asked why by aika, all he said was that it seemed fun to him. Hearing this, Aika said that he wanted to do the same as well, without much thought.

When seiji first enrolled in Yumenosaki and *** was having internal issues, Aika was the first person to hear about it. Seeing how stressed their cousin was, Aika started to contemplate their own decision to enrol into yumenosaki and to become an idol. Seiji asked Aika bluntly why he wanted to be an idol again, which prompted Aika to put a great deal of thought into the subject. Without an answer to Seiji’s question, the two attended fine’s concert, one that would be Aika’s deciding factor in becoming an isol. Seeing how fine’s performance brought hope and joy to people, and how much love fans and idols had for each other, Aika decided then and there that he would become an idol, to be able to freely give their love to all of their fans, and to be loved wholeheartedly by them as well.
