Bulwarks Character Guide (Mai and Greyson)

Mai first met Greyson in high school when he was merely a foreign exchange student. She found his naivety towards Sylvacan culture to be adorable and had this desire to protect him from the dangers of the world. Unfortunately, Greyson was not as gullible as she had believed. As Greyson adapted more to Sylvacan culture and opened up to Mai, his true personality was revealed: he turned out to actually be an edgy, outspoken anarchist obsessed with sex, alcohol, and smoking. Greyson was exactly the type of person Mai actively tried to avoid, but it was too late for her. They had already been friends for over 4 years, and there was no sign of it ending.

Greyson and Mai consider each other best friends. Their friendship may come off as contentious at times, but deep down they cherish each other's company. Greyson is one of Mai's most trusted companions and she tells him secrets she would never tell anyone else, including her family. He has seen Mai's most vulnerable moments and responded with compassion. Greyson opens up to Mai as well about his hidden struggles and trusts her to take them to the grave. Their constant banter serves more as proof that they care for each other more than they'd like to admit.

Mai always found Greyson's anarchist view to be troubling, but inevitably started adopting his mentality the more they hung out. Greyson brings out a different side to Mai in a way no one else can. Typically, Mai is a quiet and polite lonewolf who avoids conflicts like the plague. Under Greyson's influence, Mai acts out a lot more as a reaction to Greyson's idiocy.

Mai is a good friend to have to balance out Zach’s unending positivity. Mai isn’t afraid to tell Greyson when he’s acting like a little bitch. He appreciates the brutal honesty as he knows he needs to take it down a notch sometimes. Greyson usually sees Mai as a straight-laced nerd, but other times he sees her as a hopeless lesbian. He really wishes she’d just get laid, and he makes sure to tell her that every day.

• They share similar preferences in the type of women they're attracted to.
• Greyson insults Mai all the time, but if anyone else does it he will jump to their defense.
