Backstory - PRE-ORI

Viktor Reyes was born and raised in a small village called San Miguel. From a young age, he exhibited a deep sense of spirituality and a genuine desire to help others. His parents, devout followers of the local church, recognized his calling and encouraged him to pursue a life dedicated to serving God and the community.

As a child, Viktor frequently attended religious ceremonies, where he became fascinated by the rituals, teachings, and the sense of peace they brought him. He spent hours studying the scriptures and engaging in discussions with the local priest, Father Miguel. The wise and kind priest recognized Viktor's passion and potential and took him under his wing as an apprentice. Viktor's parents, realizing his potential, arranged for him to receive a formal education at a seminary in a nearby city. There, he studied theology, philosophy, and various religious practices. Under the guidance of experienced priests, Sebastian honed his spiritual knowledge and developed a strong foundation in the teachings of the church.

During his time at the seminary, Viktor faced various challenges that tested his faith and commitment. He encountered skepticism from some of his peers and even experienced moments of doubt himself. However, through these struggles, he emerged with a deeper understanding of his faith and an unwavering determination to serve others. After completing his studies, Viktor was ordained as a priest. He returned to his hometown of San Miguel to continue the work started by his mentor, Father Miguel, who had recently retired. Viktor's arrival was met with great excitement and hope from the villagers, who remembered him as a compassionate and dedicated young man.

As the new priest, Viktor took on the responsibility of guiding the spiritual and moral development of the community. He devoted himself to providing guidance and support to individuals and families facing challenges, offering solace during times of grief, and organizing charitable initiatives to help the less fortunate. After a while, his time at his first church came to a close, and he set his eyes on a new place: a developing town in need of a church.

"You can- you can take all the fuck you want from me, obviously, but you aren't taking that shit."

design notes

  • starts out with more blue colors (cooler brown hair, blue and black priest outfit), but as Ori's influence gets stronger he moves to warmer colors (warm purples, red hair)
  • scar on his cheek from Ori - his "mark"
  • the pendant on his collar is a broken evil eye - no protection for him!
  • hair is dyed with more natural things (lives in the mountains, so most likely sweet berries)
  • brand on his back says "property of the void" in industrial font

tw: sexual assault -----------------------------------------------------------------------

After moving to a remote mountain town and building a church there as his base, Viktor found himself going around the town and helping collect materials for the roads, blessing them as he was placing them in the community storage area to make an attempt to ward evil from creeping into this town, too. Unfortunately, evil had already wormed its way into the poor mountain town, and had started heading Viktor’s way in the form of the voidling Ori. Viktor, upon laying eyes on the horror that was Ori, was understandably afraid of what he thought was an actual demon coming to start the Rapture. Nevertheless, the pastor made one major mistake in trying to handle being in the same space as this being: he said hello.

Within the first encounter with Ori, it had already been decided by the voidling that Viktor would become his personal priest, and the religion he once held was now no more. Moments into meeting him, the demon had broken Viktor’s prized rosary and had given him what Viktor calls the mark of the beast (an eye symbol within brackets). He was then grabbed close to the demon, pulled to his chest and held the same as one would hold a lover - something that had intense disgust flowing through Viktor’s veins as he actively resisted being near such a disgusting creature. Such active resistance did nothing but worsen the situation. The hand at his waist creeped to the small of his back, the hand once in his hair now under his chin- forcing the poor priest to make eye contact with the horrible creature. And, despite the holy man’s protests, Ori brought the man closer to himself, and to Viktor’s horror, had kissed the man on the corner of his mouth.

It was the first time the man had been kissed, and it had been tainted by such a horrible being.

He proceeded to push himself away from Ori (the void demon allowing it), and in that moment, the priest decided he hated this thing, hated him deeper than any other of God's creatures that roamed the Earth. He didn't know he had the heart to hate, but Ori, the blasted creature, had made him learn he had. He had spent the rest of that day (and the next) repenting over what the demon had done to him, desperately trying to rid himself of the disgusting feeling that came with being around the terrible demon. Eventually, he had managed to make himself sleep, hoping he would be able to sleep for the next hundred years. He was woken up to Ori at his bedside, soon being dragged out of bed in his sleeping gown, brought close to the voidling once again against his will. Not even a full minute later- much too quick for Viktor himself to process, that was- he found his now-shorn hair on the floor, Ori having cut it to his shoulders. For no other reason than the fact that he could.

This had Viktor resisting more violently against the demon, something the passive priest had never had to do before. He was clawing his way to freedom- but as he got close, Ori put him in his place with more violence done back to him. This continued happening to the poor priest until he broke, admitting himself as Ori’s pastor, and admitting that he was loyal to Ori. All to make the pain stop. This was the worst mistake the pastor himself made.

As punishment (like he hadn’t already faced enough), he was told to hold an impossible position, almost as if praying to the demon himself, and was told to hold it until the demon came back. He had managed to actually listen, fearing more torture if he failed, but Ori had forgotten about the poor priest, and found the man days later asleep in the same place he left him. He was woken up and made to beg for his life, which he somehow managed to do (or maybe it was because death was starting to look like a mercy for the poor man). Fortunately, all Ori did was heal the now-infected mark on his cheek and leave whorish clothing for the priest to wear. This finalized Viktor’s priesthood under Ori, and made it so that the man wouldn’t even recognize himself in the mirror, if he had even been able to force himself to look in one.

Either way, the pastor had started making changes to his church- more for the survival of himself and his beloved books of religion, but also to appease Ori and maybe get the voidling to leave him alone for a bit longer. Unfortunately, that didn’t work. Ori soon checked in on Viktor, and, pleased that he was wearing his outfit, made sure to make the holy man as uncomfortable in it as possible by looking at him in ways nobody had ever looked at him before. Viktor hated it, and his impossibly large hatred for the man grew even more. And soon, a test was upon Viktor, Ori sliding a hand to cup his cheek and see how pliant the man truly was before his supposed god. And, in another series of grave mistakes, he assured Ori of his loyalty to him.

He found himself being led to a bed, Ori’s movements gentle despite the ever-alarming threat of his mere presence. And, with his professed loyalty, the clothing Ori had made him wear was soon being taken off by the voidling himself, and despite struggles, Viktor was another victim of Ori’s assault.

After the... 'event' (as Viktor had started calling it in his head) had finished, Viktor had well and good passed out, and woke to an empty bed. The birds chirped outside as is nothing had happened, as if his life hadn't been fundamentally changed and his body damaged and pushed long past places he had wanted to. He had never wanted to- do any of that with anyone. To fight the rising crisis in him, he forced himself up and into the shower, scrubbing himself raw, hands shaking, mind laser-focused on anything outside of what had happened. When it got to his hair, he rinsed it, a terrible idea starting to take root. That terrible idea found him hours later, with bleached hair now a dark blood-red, hair dye staining the sink in front of him and the shower behind him (and his fingers, and his almost-dazed brain tried to convince him it was actual blood). Either way, it had been done, and he didn't know how much he had fucked up. He didn't particularly care.

Ori soon found out, and was obviously displeased over Viktor having control over himself- he saw it as Viktor ruining his own property. Viktor, delirious with despair, fought back against Ori’s demands for an apology, verbally harrassing him. In response, Ori dragged the poor priest down from his attic bedroom and by a fireplace. A brand was placed in the fireplace, and what felt like hours later had Viktor sobbing and weak with the words “Property of the Void” branded on his back in an industrial font. The smell of cooked meat would haunt the holy man for the rest of his life. Afterwards, Ori insinuated wanting to repeat the “event” that had happened earlier, and Viktor begged for it to not happen again. Luckily, Ori kicked the man down again, saying he “wasn’t worth the time it takes to unzip his pants,” and told the man to clean himself up.

He woke up hours later, the smell of burnt flesh still haunting the room.

Ori made appearances every now and again, every time chipping away at the religious art scattered around the church, even going so far as to replace the windows with depressing shades of purples and greys. This did, however, bring an unlikely ally in the form of Cap - originally in to search for information, he ended up aiding the priest with much-needed comfort and healing potions.

These very healing potions made his escape from Ori possible, giving Viktor the bravery to leave the church and find shelter elsewhere. After wandering down into a home's basement, hoping to hide away until he could gather enough supplies to move farther out, he met the very injured vampire Marquis, whom he healed and set free from the torture he had been trapped in. In thanks, Marquis led Viktor to his cathedral - it had been imbued with ancient runes by the vampire himself, and was able to keep Ori at bay.

With Ori still unaware of Viktor's escape, the priest hoped to gather as much information (and supplies) as possible to get away from the horrid demon once and for all.

"I hate him. I don't use the word hate lightly, but I swear I will use it here. I was only trying to be kind to him and he's ruined everything I have and everything I own. I am no longer able to recognize myself due to him."

"He helped me when I had no hope left. His aid helped me escape from Ori, and I hope he remains safe from that foul demon."
