Ishihara Yuu (石原悠) or better known as Nyuu (ニュウ) is a detective assistant in Hatsune Miku's Detective Agency in the Tabletop Sekai. He is a member of the jazz band catpurr^^capture.

This page will refer to him as Nyuu and the original as Yuu.

Background

Nyuu is the saxophonist of the jazz band catpurr^^capture. He took on the position after Yuu's death. He also works as an assistant detective after being recruited by Miku after his birth in the sekai.

As the Tabletop Sekai was born from the other club members' feelings after Yuu's untimely death, Nyuu was created from their memories of him as a result. Because of this, his knowledge of himself is limited to what others know of Yuu. He is likewise aware of how they saw Yuu prior to his death.

Nyuu is tied to the Tabletop Sekai, and he's unable to go out of it. However, Nyuu can appear in the real world via hologram from the other club members' phones. Some aspects of the sekai seem to be influenced by his state of mind, such as the weather and city lights. Despite being a sekai resident, Nyuu gets hungry and sleepy like a normal human.

Personality

Much like his predecessor, Nyuu is a polite and ever-smiling, yet lethargic young man. However, he is noticeably much more clingy with his friends. His traits are inconsistent due to him being created from different perspectives. He is warm and amicable at times, while cold and distant at others.

Nyuu speaks in a cheerful, airy, sometimes cryptic manner, much like Yuu. He's quite talkative, but he avoids talking about himself. He's persuasive and shows a great deal of charisma and wisdom, but he doesn't stick out or give himself much credit for these traits.

His lacking self-concept and limited memories have naturally given him an obsession with what his friends do remember of him. He clings to the bonds the original Yuu had with his bandmates, even though they are not really his. If he couldn't go back to the good old days, he wants to at least be a replacement. His heart is full of his friends' feelings of not wanting to let go, and he in turn wants to keep them close, too. He tends to calculate his actions based on his knowledge of his bandmates' feelings for Yuu. He presents himself as the Yuu everyone knows and loves, but is often caught off guard when their reactions are unlike what he had planned.

Nyuu is aware of the nature of his existence, though he doesn't understand why his bandmates would treat him any different than the original Yuu. He is the exact same as how his friends remember him, after all. He doesn't regret his circumstances, however. He thinks of himself as passing enough to be human. He thinks that despite everything, it's good that his friends have him.

Nyuu doesn't take his job as an assistant detective that seriously, often loitering around until Miku smacks him. He is disloyal to a degree, often foiling Miku and the other bandmates' plans to retrieve the sekai's Untitled, believing they will lose a reason to keep coming back to the sekai if they succeed.

There are, of course, many holes in his personality. Gita, Haito, and Aina weren't able to learn many things about Yuu's past, background, or his likes and dislikes in general, so Nyuu is just as left in the dark about these as any. He lies and makes things up to fill the gap, which is totally okay because no one will ever find out(?). Eventually, the more he has experiences outside of his initial knowledge of himself, the more he begins to develop his own sense and preferences.

Relationships

Ishihara Yuu
Nyuu thinks of the original Yuu as a lost cause, and dedicates himself to be there for his friends in his stead. He thinks it's pointless to question if he's the real one, since there has always been only one of him. Nyuu's feelings for Yuu is a bit complicated, but he doesn't bear any resentment towards him. He barely even thinks Yuu is a different, separate being from himself, although knowing the circumstances behind his creation. 

Gita Gumilar
Gita, being the only band member who strongly resists him, annoys Nyuu, but he knows that being too pushy with her won't get him anywhere. He thinks her pursuit of truth is futile and selfish in nature and would sometimes offhandedly try to reason her out of it. Even with the tension between them, Nyuu tries his best to act casual around her, in hopes he will someday regain her trust.

Nitta Aina
Nyuu is aware that Aina's friendliness with Yuu wasn't really there before his death and finds it strange that she doesn't show uneasiness towards him like she did towards Yuu. Regardless, the two grew close quickly. Aina confides in him, and Nyuu somewhat returns her sentiment. He has sneaking suspicion that Aina only wants him as a catalyst in making the band alive again, but he sets aside his skepticism towards her. He doesn't mind the likely superficial affection if it means he has a friend on his side. Nyuu and Aina often hang out and practice together, both in the sekai and in the real world (with him as a hologram).

Seo Haito
Nyuu thinks of Haito as cute and endearing. He knows about the crush Haito had on Yuu, and he uses the knowledge to entice him, to keep him close. It's not that he really reciprocates Haito's romantic feelings; he's only getting high on the validation that he's needed by a friend. Nyuu is gentle towards Haito and would try to assure him that he's there for him, though he's careful not to lead him on too much.

Hatsune Miku
Despite being disloyal, Nyuu holds great respect for his boss. He spends most of his time with Miku, so they're somewhat close. Nyuu would sometimes ask him for advice on how to deal with his bandmates.

Otomachi Una
Una makes Nyuu their informant at times, and he would leak Miku's plans to them. They also like to gossip about Miku together.
