Sometimes you meet someone and you'll feel passionately about them. Sometimes it can work out and other times it-- just doesn't. But If you love them enough, you'll know that you must walk your own seperate paths and remember that it is for the best.
― Gidden talking about "a former lover."

Gidden Arakis was once the Champion of the Holy Order, known as Ser Gidden of Roses or Gidden the Slayer. After his last noble quest, in which he became revered as "The Fiend Slayer," he returned to the Holy Capital and was appointed as Archbishop. It was at this same time, Gidden found an abandoned infant at the doorsteps of the Citadel. He adopted him and named him Ravaan Arakis.

Appearance

Gidden appears to be a middle aged man with piercing, sapphire-blue eyes, pale skin and slightly graying black hair. His stern face is sharply defined with high and sunken cheekbones, a square jaw and a hooked nose. He also has a full goatee that is also slightly graying like his hair. Gidden stands at only about 5 '7 at his tallest, but makes up for his lack of height with broad shoulders and a built frame.

Gidden is usually seen donning a white priest robe, a golden collar and a dark red vestment with his medals pinned over his left chest.

Before the timeskip, 20 years prior, Gidden appeared much younger. He had long, wavy, black hair that he used to tie in a low ponytail and a much thinner scruff. At the time, Gidden wore a simple white priest robe with a dark red sash and a necklace that bears the symbol of his faith.

History

Gidden was born as a daughter to Riana Arakis and an unknown father. He was raised in a coastal mining town for most of his childhood, by his mother and grandfather, Doctor Aumier Arakis. As a young child, Gidden expressed many simple boyish tendencies and his mother caught on quickly. She let him be, as he tried to figure himself out. Although he was loved dearly by his mother, he did not receive the same affection from his grandfather, who did not care for his daughter’s bastard. Nor did most people in town. The children of the town too, spared no liking for him. They bullied him and chased him all across town until he was forced to run back home. They disliked him and tormented him for years in that town, leading to further aggression most of the time.

Life continued as it was until he turned eleven. An unforgiving winter left the village frail and sick. With medicine low, Aumier was forced to leave town to get more medicine himself. Riana did the best she could to help the sick until she herself fell ill. Riana would not see another season again. Before spring would come abloom, Riana died. With his mother gone, there was nothing holding the young Gidden home anymore. The town children finally chased him out of town. And where once, Gidden would turn back, he didn’t. Gidden continued to run, leaving his town long behind him. Gidden wandered for many weeks. Running from one village to the next. Until he evidently wandered into the capital as winter began to settle in.

He had been found shivering to near death at the gates of the Citadel. Mother Gustana was the one who brought the boy in, cleaned him, and fed him. To the hopeless boy, she was his savior. Gidden found solace in those holy walls. In the faith. Within his desperation he found hope and safety in the gods. He was kindly taken in by the Citadel where he stayed until he was old enough to join the Order. With the backing of Mother Gustana, he was squired by Lieutenant Galamir Manon, of the Order, along with another boy by the name of Lucerion Daen.

Lucerion and Gidden did not get along at first. The two became rivals and would continue well into their knighthood. Under the guidance of Sir Galamir, the two became the pride of the Imperium. They quickly became the Order’s Champions. Gidden’s natural leadership was recognized quickly and he was highly respected by his comrades. He rose to the top with ease and was soon enough promoted to Bishop. As a knight, Gidden was not only brave and fierce but handsome and chivalrous, gaining popularity among the people. He was lovingly known as Ser Gidden of Roses, as many would give him the flower to profess their adoration for him.

However, despite Gidden’s popularity, he was not well received by the higher ups who did not care for Gidden’s humble beginnings. Gidden’s imposing skills in combat and strategy proved to be fit for a leader and it kept the High Council anxious. Gidden’s friendship with Archbishop Volis Ormond alone threatened the structure of the future council. He became the target of their ire. To rid of him, they framed him for cheating at the Grand Tourney, in front of the whole Coliseum. But when that didn’t discourage the people from his side, Archbishop Ormond, surprisingly, sent him away.

Gidden was assigned to Firling, an outskirt village in the Atens, far by the southern borders of the kingdom. He was tasked to rebuild an old church as the new head priest. Angered by the betrayal of the Order and High Council, Gidden was determined to prove his worth and everyone wrong.
