Names
- Arkadius has the short form Arkady here. His crew and friends usually calls him one of these.
- Niktos basically just means “son of none” and is a name he used to distance himself from his (abusive, manipulative) mother, and also to spite her. It’s used mostly for business and the like. So I guess to most people he’d be Captain Niktos.
- Hitch is a nickname given to him, and it’s used in a pretty demeaning way, even in jest. He doesn’t like it.
- Captain is a title given to anyone considering a leader of something, whether it is a business, an organisation or, as in this case, a ship. A captain is elected by their crew and the title can be taken away by them as well. The title has little to do with rank, and more so to do with who is trusted enough to lead and make decisions.
Personality
Appearance
Around 175 cm tall, slender and well proportioned in build, if anything slightly stocky. Leans to the left side and has a limp when he walks. Warm, brown skin and dark brown, straight hair that varies in length but generally goes to or just over his ears; he tends to get it cut when it falls in his eyes too much. Has a beard that varies in how well its kept based on how stressed he is, but he does care to keep it trimmed and somewhat presentable. While he used to shave when he was younger, he rarely does now. He has dark brown, slightly deep set eyes, and they tend to look tired and more aged than he really is. His fingers are long and thin.
Most of his right leg has been amputated. His stump used to be around 2/3 of his original thigh, but has been reduced to around 1/3-1/2 due to complications. He has a few different prosthetics, but likes it more when he doesn't have to use them - when they are in zero g, for example.
While on the ship, he'll wear their grey working clothes. Because he is captain, he wears two shiny stripes on his arm. Outside of the ship, he wears practical, pretty boring clothes.

- Closest things he's been to a mutiny is his 11-year-old daughter bribing his entire crew with candy.
- He is right-handed.
- Birthday according to our calender is December 16th.
- He is lactose intolerant. He learned this when their cook Ivan introduced them to cheese, which is relatively rare where he is from.

Story
As a young child he was very careful and cautious and tried not to be in the way. As he got older, and his half-siblings where born, he felt more and more responsible for them, not only taking care of them more than their mother did in most cases, but also protecting them as much as he could. This especially applies to Kat, as their mother became increasingly controlling and manipulative of Pyotr and it was difficult for them to influence him in any positive way.
When he was a teen their mother really began turning her back on them, and eventually left with Pyotr's father, taking their younger half-brother with her. They needed an income for several reasons, mainly to get away from her, and when she left, to manage on their own, so Hitch began working as a prostitute. To him it was a fairly simple job – he was good at it, the money was easy, and he naively figured he would enjoy it, so why not.
After a few years Hitch got involved in some of the brothel owner's business that ended badly and long story short, one of his legs was not salvageable afterwards. The brothel owner did feel bad and paid some compensation, but he lost his job and it took him a long time to recover. In the following years he resumed working independently as a whore from time to time, and took various odd jobs around the port. Eventually having experience and contacts aid off and he got himself a job as a quartermaster on a ship, which he happened to be pretty good at.
After a streak of questionable decisions from their captain, they carried out a successful mutiny, and to Hitch's surprise they elected him as the new captain. He accepted the job, and while he was very much prepared to be replaced as soon as they came back to port, the crew stood by their decision. At that time, what was left consisted of Hitch, Bourbon, Ivan, Arvo, Jazz, Vik and Kat. They hired Dmitry and Gecko pretty quickly, and later recruited Amelia and Dutch, and picked up Bloody Mary who, fortunately for them, decided to stay. Eventually, they find Pyotr again, and Tasha appears.
Kat Half-sister, who suffered under their mother's abuse along with him. She is 5 years younger than him and they are in general very, very close siblings, and have always taken care of each other. Hitch feels deeply responsible for her.
Demetrius Best friends since childhood. Dima, Hitch and Kat always hung out and got in trouble together and Dima's family were incredibly nice and welcoming to Hitch and Kat. They remain very close even working together and in many ways Dima knows Hitch better than anyone.
Bourbon Second-in-command on Stilet, very close friend of Hitch and Kat's girlfriend. Way before they really knew or worked with each other, she was a one-time client of Hitch's - a fact they tried, but ultimately failed, to keep from the others. She and Hitch work very closely together and if he needs someone to kick and yell his insecurities away it's her.
Jazz Jazz and Hitch were good friends both on and off duty, until suddenly it turned romantic. Both of them struggled quite a bit with coming to terms with it, for different reasons, but their relationship didn't last more than a few solid months. When Jazz died, Hitch was ruined almost beyond repair, having failed as a captain and lost someone he loved at the same time.
Amalia Current girlfriend, partner and also engineer on Stilet. It took Hitch quite some time after losing Jazz to give relationships another try, and fortunately it worked out. They love each other a lot but their personal relationship is low-maintenance and semi-open.
Tasha The daughter that he did not know he had until she appeared when she as around 9 years old. He loves her dearly and they are pretty close - he had little experience with being a father, but lots with being an older brother and a captain and it shows in the way he raises her.
