Profile

Nwämuyet [pronounced NUAH-MOO-YET.] His name is a mixture of of the Haitian Creole words, "Nwa," meaning black, and "Mouye," meaning wet, along with the Japanese word, "Nureta," meaning wet. Among humans, he is called the elusive Muyet [pronounced MY-YET.]

He is a legendary monster covered in slime who is greatly feared among an entire nation. His story takes place in the year 1951, when most view his existence as a silly superstition, unsure if he truly exists or not.

He feasts on humans primarily. After targeting a victim, he first finds a dark place with proper light behind him, turning his form into a dark-enough silhouette from their view. Then, after he transforms into the shape of a small girl with bows in her hair, makes sure his victim is some distance in front of him, then calls out to them by disguising his voice as a human girl's, creating quite the convincing illusion. He tends to use phrases like "Hey," "Please help me," "I'm here," "Help me please," and throws in a "Hurry" when he feels he is losing their belief. The voice is so distinguished and realistic that anyone unknowing of his mythical story would be fooled. Once his victim comes within range, he springs forward and expands himself, engulfing the victim in his body. Their screams cannot be heard because of the thick gelatinous matter that Nwämuyet's body is composed of, and with limited movement and space, the human eventually loses oxygen and he slowly absorbs them. He can only let them out by his will, or if he is splashed by his weakness; water.

Water rapidly erodes his body away. Whether salty or distilled, it's the one weakness of all Mouye. Unfortunately, their true weakness is only known by ancient tradition and the info is hard to find. His body matter being made of a combination of lipids and sugars, he simply cannot mix with the element. Any regions touched by water instantly inflate, pop into bits, and are gone forever via rapid expansion. It's quite painful. This is why he chooses dry regions to dwell in and never stays out in the rain, usually choosing an old abandoned structure to home himself in.

One of his strengths is fire. The unusual liquids of his skin mix with the fire, causing the surface area that makes contact with the flames to mutate and multiply rapidly. It's like pouring cold water onto a mound of ice in negative degree weather. It only adds onto his size and mass. Gunfire, Infrared Light, and UV Rays are two things that can also have this effect on him. However, his skin is too moist to be ignited or dried out.

Nwämuyet prefers adult victims because they are surprisingly easier to fool. It's not that children wouldn't help a little girl in need, but childrens' steadfast beliefs in fairytales, scary monsters, and "the boogeyman" often push them away from such peculiar things. They're also terrified of the dark, so it's difficult for him to lure them into a proper place. Once they start to scream and run, he flees avoid being seen by more humans.

Nwämuyet's skin is not harmful to touch. It has a texture similar to wet clay and leaves behind a trail of clear slime wherever he goes. However, a large pouch in his stomach cavity (the center of his body that can open up) contains digestive acids that can be toxic to organic matter. He still has bones, muscles, and organs, though a bit different than the average animal's. His bones are connected by stretchy ligaments, he has very flexible joints, and his organs are squishy, each of these things allowing him to twist and contort his body with much more tolerance. He could even dislocate his jaw and have it split into two like a snake's, helping him consume prey whole. In addition, he can see very well in the darkness. This night vision helps well when targeting prey. Since he has no nostrils, he possesses the amphibian trait of breathing through his skin.

As for his personality, Nwämuyet used to be much more ferocious and merciless in his past. But now, he's a little more lazy and oddly logical. So much of the malicious intent has faded away, he doesn't have the strong drive to hunt humans as he used to. His personality is best described as being like Arlow's. He takes advantage of his size, looks down on humans like trash, and is a bit of a sarcastic laze. For example, if he had to complete a puzzle for food, he'd make two attempts and give up, dragging off to search for some easier food elsewhere. If a human asked for mercy, he'd probably grant it, depending on how hungry he is. The big difference between him and Arlow is that Nwämuyet doesn't put effort into pestering humans or playing with his food. He's all about survival.

As Mouye are born knowing their own language, along with a selection of ancient languages, Nwämuyet speaks fluent Mouyean, Adamic, Egyptian, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Anglo-Saxon, and Hawaiian. His Modern English is not so polished. He can understand it better than he can speak it. Nwämuyet does not speak often when he is not luring a human with his unusually loud and resonant voice.

In the legend, it's said that the Muyet has the ability to hypnotize people into mindlessly approaching it. This is a half-truth. Nwämuyet does, in fact, have hypnotic abilities, but he only uses them when close to an unwilling victim, since doing it gives him headaches. It's also not as potent an ability as people think. Being that this ability requires firm eye contact, he can only hypnotize one person at a time. It does not work well from long distances.

Nwämuyet's Story [HUGE WORK IN PROGRESS]

Nwämuyet's species, Mouye, [pronounced MO-WAY,] are an amphibian species that have lived since the creation of Earth. They were placed on Earth to be helpers for the humans, as more of an assistant for God. Their position was below humans and angels. They had a color similar to frogs, along with beautiful reptilian patterns on their skin, and dwelt primarily in freshwater- a cheery and angelic species. They possessed the intelligence of man, but were structured differently and were several feet smaller than humans. [Humans were 15 feet tall on average back then!] Mouye had five eyes on their faces, two pairs of long droopy ears on the front and back, and long aquatic tails. The males had more vivid colors on their skin, while the females had softer colors on their skin and were slightly smaller. Males were classified by pairs of leaf-shaped 'fins' on their bodies that could expand and wiggle around to attract females. It's thought that their fins could even glow by will. The Mouye were created with amazing mimicry skills that they used to entertain humans during ceremonies and gatherings.

After the forbidden fruit was eaten in Eden, they were defiled by the spreading sin of man and were left on the Earth. They were meant to be taken back up to heaven along with the Tree of Life, them being created holy creatures, but because they disobeyed God, they could not enter heaven. Their appearance changed as a result- they developed a black tar-like slime all over their bodies and grew to terrifying sizes. Because of their grotesque forms, they were shunned and they hid from human society. Even the most noble of Mouye no longer received messages from God. They were humiliated and loathed themselves for their abandonment from God. They created their own growing society far underground where no human or animal would have to bear the shame of laying eyes upon their species. They believed that it would be best Their genes were even further altered with the coming of the Nephelim, an army of fallen angels who mated with humans and animals to create abominable hybrids. This is when they grew to sizes of over 30 feet, similar to giants. At this time, the Mouye were resented and considered disgusting creatures. They were even blamed for the crippling sin of the world. Over generations, Mouye grew a hate for humans and went out to hunt and kill them for food. They found that human fear gave them power, and even more so, human blood. This was because of their new demonic genes that harvested the negative energy of humans. This led to more humans being killed, along with wars between Man and Mouye. Besides increased size, little changed concerning the physical appearance of Mouye, and little other genes were inherited from the fallen angels. The Mouye abandoned their purpose, and rejected the ways of God.

God was saddened by the overwhelming sin on Earth and regretted creating mankind, so He sent down a great flood to eliminate the Nephelim and all of their generations, saving Noah and his family with the ark. Most of the Mouye were wiped out quickly, of course, but at least one male and one female survived under the cover of the Earth, as they eventually reproduced after the water melted away in 365 days' time, likely surviving off of worms and other soil-dwelling creatures. The floodwaters were saltwater, so no creature could drink it. Luckily, Mouye don't require water in their systems. Some time after this flood that happened over 4000 years ago, God said "Man should not dwell with Me for an eternity," so He shortened their lifespan from 1,000 years to 120 years, and caused their average height to be less than half of their former.

2000 years pass, and Noah's descendants have repopulated the planet abundantly. But humans aren't the only ones who have repopulated. In that time, the Mouye's numbers climbed from less than ten to over two million. They remain hidden, expanding and renovating their fallen underground civilization.

Nwämuyet was born in the year 1551. He was a part of a family of eight, his father figure missing. Five brothers and two sisters, all living in a large underground den dug by their mother. Nwämuyet's brothers often discriminated against him for the strange placement of the fins on his head. They laughed because of his odd feminine appearance and excluded him from their activities. He was often pushed off to play with his sisters instead. He stayed with his mother for one century until she was murdered by a group of soldiers. Mouye don't do well alone against large numbers, so they captured her when she was out hunting one night and locked her into a cage. They left her out in the rain overnight, causing her body to decay rapidly into nothing but bone by the morning. Her children never found her body. During his time as a teenager, he and his siblings took care of each other and took turns hunting, never going alone. After giving up on finding their mother, each of them eventually grew too big to continue living in the den and moved on to find love and start their own families. However, Nwämuyet had much different aspirations. He and his brothers left off on a bad note, ending their contact with an aggressive scuffle. He wasn't hugely opposed by their insults, and just went on with his life. In the wild, he started to get hungry. He came across a lone human in the forest. This is when Nwämuyet remembered the what his brothers kept saying to him, "You look like a little girl!" And he had the clever idea to use his unusual appearance as an advantage on humans.

Meanwhile, the number of Nwämuyet's victims had climbed to over 5,724. Into the modern years, these developed into missing persons' cases, causing real concern among the country. For a while, no one ever wandered near lakes or abandoned structures at night, and were frightened by even the sound of frogs. The more fear they had of him, the harder it was to fetch victims. There were no more wandering travelers on horseback with nothing but a puny sword- his favorite prey. Now, people were armed with guns and their cautious wits. Human fear gave him no advantages. It was his goal to instill fear in the whole planet, but his vengeance was nothing without pain and bloodshed. Even so, Nwämuyet has evolved much since his birth. With every human he consumed, he evolved and grew even bigger. His size was making it harder to hide, being that most of his body was a huge mass of slime. He was far too lazy to shift his slime into his full upright body shape and just drags his lower slime around when he's not luring prey. This makes him like a sort of symbiote, except the human goes inside of his body instead. He has many long tentacles, helping easily lift and carry him along surfaces. He has the ability to change his shape very well; he could stick to a wall or ceiling and appear as flat as a layer of black tarp. He can even contract his body inward to make his shape more defined and compact, like whenever he creates the silhouette of the little girl. Even so, he can't change his mass, so the rest of his slimy body is strewn along the floor and up the walls from the feet, slightly in front of him so that he can close around and trap his victim. To top it off, he uses his species' stellar mimicry skills to his advantage. The mere shape of the silhouette was turned into a true symbol of fear.

Since the current generation of man denied the Mouye's existence, they also regarded the Muyet as a myth. One encounter led to a story, and another sighting led to a terrifying portrait of his likeness. These things were passed down further and further until they lost their credibility and, into the 1800's, were viewed as absurd fables. Scientists debated, bickered, and contemplated the monster's true existence, some still having seen sightings. There was even an old monochrome picture taken in a panic of his false silhouette. The man who took the picture has been missing ever since.

The year sinks into 1951. Nwämuyet is approached by a young woman. The slime monster prepares his old luring tactic, reeling her in slowly, and he almost catches her, until ...

Story Bits That I'm Planning (spoilers!)

Here are some bits of the story that will happen at some point, but are not worked out in the plot just yet. We will use the placeholder name "Elle" when referring to the young woman he met in the cave.

Elle and Nwämuyet have a somewhat mutual relationship at this point. Although he is still distant from her, he tolerates her being around. Currently, he is learning from her about the human world. She carries classic dog treats for him when he does something good, and carries a water gun to threaten him with whenever he misbehaves, being that he's stubborn and tries to steal treats often. He doesn't like to be disciplined or told what to do, and could easily extinguish Elle because she eventually trusts Nwämuyet enough to sleep next to him, but he hesitated. Something inside of him wanted to stay around her. This is when Nwämuyet feared that he had already imprinted on her.
