Ivan S. Vale

warning: the following is a bit cringey as i never rewrote it since i was a teenager...

Completely distraught over the death of her beloved sister, Ivan's mother Annette quickly developed PPD after the premature birth of her second son, at 26 weeks. Completely consumed by her own depression, Ivan's care and up bringing was left up to her husband, Kenneth, and their older son - Alaric.
Despite the neglect of his mother throughout the early stages of his life, Ivan seemed unaffected by her lack of affections. He formed an inseparable bound with his older brother, and though - at times - he and Annette would fight for Alaric's attention, the family seemed to have settled into some sense of normalcy.

Shortly after Ivan had entered the 7th grade, Alaric was killed in a head-on collision, which caused the family to fall apart. 
Annette, who had become more motherly, fell quickly back into a depressive state severely impairing her ability to do common everyday things, and Ivan developed hypnophobia as a result of the onset of several night terrors which ultimately lead him to make attempts on his own life. 
Unable to properly care of the crippling mental healths of both his son and his wife -as well as provide for the family financially- Kenneth opted to place Ivan in a juvenile ward, where he remained for the better part of his early teen years.

Upon turning sixteen, Ivan - now with a more positive outlook on life - left his community determined to reconnect with the long lost cousin Alaric had mentioned in their childhood.

By mid-September, Ivan arrived at the *NAME OF CHURCH*'s doorstep – duffle bag in tow – asking about his cousin's whereabouts, after confessing his many sins to Father Vayne.
