Cody Rivera
Currently writing out the lyrics of a new song to play.
Cody is a main character in my slice-of-life story, who is Andy's younger brother and Jeremy's best friend. He's been described as being calm, level-headed, kind, and gentle. He's a natural follower that does whatever his friends and loved ones are interested in, and has a polite and mild nature that people find calming. He hasn’t let his lifelong battle with chronic illnesses make him bitter and spiteful; still having a good attitude that involves having fun and enjoying the moment. It takes a lot for him to get offended or upset.
He often just hangs out with Jeremy and Andy, but is also good friends with people at work, people in the symphonic band and orchestra, the chess club...and everywhere else. He is well-liked by practically everyone but is only truly close to a few. Understandably, he prefers to keep both his childhood and his current physical state a secret, simply wanting the folks around him to see him as an equal who can take care of himself just fine.
In terms of his mannerisms and characteristics, not only does he have a bashful nature despite his long legs giving him a towering presence, he is also prone to looking down, responding quietly, and walking away from everyone when he isn't feeling well.

History
Childhood
He has no memories of his birth parents since they all disappeared once he was born. His mother passed away while giving birth to him, and his father left out of believing his newborn son killed her. Having little to no nutrition in the womb heavily impacted his overall health, and basically lived the first decade of his life completely reliant on frequent hospital visits. He got frequent colds and bruised very easily, which made him fairly tired.
In foster care, he was sheltered by everyone that took care of him, whom all believed his terrible immune system made him fragile and incapable of looking after himself. His musical spark came into existence once his bro began playing the guitar for the two of them as a way to help them both relax. His other favorite thing to do while bored out of his mind was to read a lot of books. As orphaned and misunderstood children, they were inseparable, with Cody often piggyback-riding Andy or sitting on his shoulders.
Adolescence
Andy was the only light in Cody's life for a very long time, with his big bro being his only best friend. He was extremely clingy and affectionate to the large fellow and viewed him as his hero, with Andy beating the crap out of anyone that mistreated him. When Cody became bedridden due to going through chemotherapy, Andy hardly left his side.
Cody’s primary physician, or Lila's mother, decided to finally foster the brothers at this point, being confident that she could save him in her direct care. And in this new town, this poor boy did actually get better, and he became good friends with a bullied kid named Jeremy along the way. Once he was healthier than ever, he began to pursue his artistic and social hobbies. These brothers eventually move out together because they like the freedom and independence, but also because they both always felt like they were burdening this sweet family.

Musical
Cody is a very musically gifted young man. He plays the guitar, ukelele, piano, and violin really well, and also enjoys writing song lyrics. He's got a decent singing voice that fits the calming tunes that he plays and writes, with his writing skills standing out in the songs he makes up. Sadly, he thinks he's below average and only shares his hobby with a few.
Writer
While often bedridden as a kid, Cody got the chance to read plenty of books, especially complex ones. Inspired, he would write down his own stories or poems, created many ideas, and basically made his own little worlds that he could always escape to. He developed an extremely creative mind, with his desire to write growing higher as he would read books and come up with ideas.
Neat freak
He's very hardworking and responsible compared to his peers. He works hard at his part-time job and is managing to pass his classes. He takes care of the trash, groceries, laundry, cleaning, and organizing, since his brother overworks a lot. Like Andy, he's a really good cook according to everyone who’s eaten his dishes.
Knowledgable
Is unsurprisingly yet sadly, very knowledgeable about a variety of illnesses, diseases, disabilities, and cancers. This can all be because he was a cancer survivor, spent the majority of his childhood in a hospital, has a big bro who's clinically depressed, and also because he volunteers at a children's hospital.
Flaws
Pushover
Since childhood, Cody's always been someone who will avoid confrontation and conflict. While he's a towering dude, he's a teenager who regularly gets sick, which leaves him too exhausted and weak to care if he's being mistreated. Politely expressing his discomfort usually does the job, but once that doesn't work he'll just endure the abuse. Thankfully, his close friends will threaten whoever is bullying him, so this is something he rarely has to deal with.
Quiet
While he inherited his mom's feebleness and extremely poor immune system, Cody will almost always mask how he truly feels when he's back to being unhealthy and bedridden. He wants to be an independent young man that can be relied upon, refusing to burden his loved ones by being chronically ill and a cancer survivor. This causes him to just get even sicker or more hurt than if would just share how he feels.
Airheaded
Cody is rather sheltered and oblivious to his surroundings. He's either got his head in the clouds, has his nose buried in his phone or book, or is talking his mouth off about his newest interest. This causes him to be reliant on his friends to keep him from getting hurt, and his loved ones endearingly feel the need to look out for him.
Self-Loathing
Cody has loads of insecurities, triggers, and doubts about himself. Being alone is something he will always avoid, and gets visibly distressed when it becomes the case. At the same time, he constantly thinks he's bothering the people around him, and will bottle up his negative feelings until they drain him completely. He often thinks it's his fault that Andy has depression.
