Basically he’s a marine biology nerd who loves sharks and surfing. He’s reckless, clumsy, and carefree. Gav seems like a calculated person on the surface, but he doesn’t think logically often and just goes with his gut feeling. This often leads to problems which could have been easily avoided. 

He’s laid back, yet is gets high marks at school just because he thinks studying is fun.

He struggles with showing affection and being nice in conventional ways, so he may come off as dismissive or uninterested when people talk to him. He’s very genuine, honest, and blunt, often coming off as insensitive or rude. Gav is very energetic and easily excitable when around very close people, but is calm and formal around others.

Background:

An Australian-born Chinese boy. Gav has immigrant parents who are strict but loving (they wouldn’t be supportive if they knew he was gay). He grew up near the coast so has an appreciation for beaches and the ocean.

Gav feels like he’s not Chinese enough since he can understand Mandarin but only speak English due to his upbringing in Australia, so he tries to embrace his culture as much as he can nowadays.

He has a quiet school life, he doesn’t go out of his way to talk to people but if people talk to him, they’ll get along due to his straightforward personality. People tend to get the wrong impression before they know him since his resting expression looks angry/grumpy, or his one off interactions with them may come off as rude.

He loves marine animals thinks they’re under-appreciated. Gav likes sharks especially since he can relate to them being misjudged on their appearance despite being ultimately harmless to humans, and thinks they’re neat. He can and will talk to you for hours about the ocean and sharks.

He’s been surfing since he was little and quite enjoys it. Gav surfs less nowadays since his household moved closer to the city, so he takes swimming classes instead.

- His natural hair colour is black

- his eyes are naturally blue even though he’s Asian. He assumes there was probably a Caucasian ancestor somewhere in his lineage

- very clumsy and often injured in some way at all times (usually a minor injury like a bruise or paper-cut). He has a high pain tolerance 

- Li gave him the blue glass shark tooth necklace he usually wears

- he’s not a fan of heavy music but can tolerate it 

- he likes plushes. Specifically ones that look stupid and wonky

- his favourite colour is navy blue

- Gav’s family thinks Li is his girlfriend since Li isn’t out and Gav’s parents are homophobic. Gav sometimes slips up when pretending Li is a girl but plays it off as a joke because “she looks like a boy”
