Powers
Jack is an electrokinetic, he has the ability to control and generate electricity. He can do so to alarming voltage specificity, usually aiming to not do any worse than a small taser or stun gun, if that, but it can range anywhere from a static shock to a lightning strike, though the latter is extremely draining. Though his body can generate electric currents to control, it's not infinite and sometimes access to other sources of electricity can help when he's running on empty. This isn't limited to combat, however, as Jack also has an accelerated healing factor activated when he 'recharges' from large amounts of outside electricity. The amount he heals is proportional to the energy absorbed, being next to a live wire or a lighting rod can mean surviving a bullet wound.
In addition to being able to control, absorb, and generate electricity, he also has an ability to sense it. He has a very strong sixth sense for electrical currents. He can't entirely turn it off, but he can sort of hone or focus in and out of it as needed, so as not to get overstimulated. He's used to being in the city, where he's never more than a few feet away from electric powered stuff, but when deprived, it seems to have been shown to have a much stronger reach than most human senses, as he can sense electrical currents almost a mile away.
Jack's ability also come with a small caveat: a weakness to water. It's not entirely clear how his powers work, but the strong electric currents running through his body seem to be generally insulated so as not to harm him in the way electrocution would harm most. For whatever reason, though, water seems to disrupt this insulation somewhat. It's not usually too serious, he can take a shower or be in the rain without feeling much more than small static shocks. However, when submerged in water the issue becomes much more prominent, causing pain and spasms as his nervous system struggles to handle the electricity suddenly present. His body often releases some of this electricity involuntarily, so if anyone is submerged in the same body of water with him, it spells trouble for all parties.
The Story Thus Far

Jack was born in the Navajo Nation reservation, in Arizona. When he was 3, his sister was born, but he'd lost his mother in childbirth. What's worse still was that his father and him got into a car accident on the way to the hospital, and both him and his unnamed sister were left orphans. Luckily, was adopted by his two mothers and brought to Chicago shortly after, separated from his biological sister but gaining new siblings and family he'd come to love.
Jack finds his early life unremarkable, his childhood pretty normal. He was too young to remember his birth parents, so survivor's guilt didn't really set in quite as much as it maybe could have had he lost them when he was older. He yearned to know more, sure, all adopted kids do, and his moms were very encouraging of him and his other siblings reconnecting with their cultures and their biological families. But he didn't think any of his issues were remarkable, worth taking note of. He was doing okay. Even once he came out, sure some people sucked about it, but his family was fine with it and the few friends he made in high school were already lgbt, so it didn't really surprise them. When he was in high school, he started dating another boy in his sophomore class, and they stayed together for the next two years. It was when he was 17, in the fall of his senior year, that everything changed.
He and his boyfriend at the time, aged now 17 and 18, were at a resturaunt together, a day the same as any other, when an explosion was set off. At the time Jack had no way of knowing what caused it. Later he was told a supposed 'supervillain' had set it off, but even later still he would learn that the police had cornered a powered person and the confrontation triggered an outburst of their abilities, triggering an even larger explosion than it might've when it hit a city gas main. Knowing this didn't help, and he didn't think it would help him to blame the guy. He just wished it hadn't happened.
In the wake of the explosion, Jack found himself trapped, unable to remove the rubble above him for hours until rescue workers could get to him. It was in these hours beneath the rocks that he found his abilities the first time, though he hadn't quite realized it at the time.
