She is part tree and as a result has the most amazing way with plants. When she talks, they talk back to her, so who needs pony friends. Being raised by Zacora she picked up her accent as the way to speak.

Apple Tree is a magical Mash up of Granny Smith, strong willed and eccentric matron of the Apple family...and a tree. Thanks to the buck she gave it Apple Tree came to be. With AJ already having Apple Dash and Big Blue to looks after as two new siblings to the ranks she sighed when Granny came running in full speed hollerin about an egg planted out in the orchard. Well with no way to move the egg the handled it like a sapling. When Apple Tree hatched she trotted her littler organic flank up to the house and knocked. AJ was all ready to let her in and Granny put her hoof down. She could handle Apple Dash and Big Blue, but that...that was a TREE! A walking neighing tree and it did NOT belong in her house. After the rejection she headed with her head low away from the one pony her instincts told her was supposed to care for her. She walked for a while and finally found herself at the edge of the Everfree forest. Leaving ponyville behind Apple Tree made her way into the creepy forest feeling more at home with the wild plants and animals. It was a day or so later when Zacora stumbled across the little filly trying to put roots down and took her into her care.
