One of a prodigious pack of kids under the Dooley family name, Notch spent his whole life living in Mino Ami, the sleepy farm town and port that almost survived the tech war. The Dooley's were themselves farmers, and like most of them, Notch took a great deal of pride in his work growing the food that fed the island of Tonpelli. In his mid-twenties, he married a local girl after a considerable courtship, and had no real ambitions beyond his life as it was, content to work the farm, start a family, and live out his life.

Then came the drones. And the War. And while many of his siblings ran off to join the Blues, or fled to the mainland, Notch dug his heels in, staying the course and working the farm. Soldiers still needed to eat, and when the dust settled, so would the survivors. He did the best he could, and on the night Mino Ami fell, he put his wife on the last boat out, and succumbed to his fate, being absorbed and enslaved into the Hivemind.

Around a year later, he woke up again, starving, sunburned, hypothermic and exhausted, with rusting metal arms and only a hazy memory of the time he'd lost. He walked back to Mino Ami slowly, and found it torched and empty. The Blues wouldn't have him, Offshore looked at him with suspicion, and the so-called Free Tech-Touched were nowhere to be found. The Mainland seemed like a coward's way out, and after all he'd been through, he refused to lose his homeland as well. So Notch went back to the ghost town he'd spent his whole life in, and set to building a new, quiet life alone there, intent on restarting his farm as best he could.

Only a few months after that, Duya returned with a plan to forcibly purge every remaining tech-touched drone from the island. He's still not sure how to feel about that.

Kine Pier-Revoyi

[ Watch your feet, you don't have enough to spare ] A jovial sort, in spite of it all, and didn't balk when Notch threatened him with hard labor. Not sure if they're close enough to call friends, but he doesn't mind the company, and it's nice to see someone retain something akin to optimism these days.

Pearl

[ Hey there, kiddo ] A family friend from better days, he's surprised she made it out in one piece. It seems like she's got a plan in mind, and he wishes her nothing but the best.

Achilles

[ How's the air from up there? ] He's got no respect for 'company men', as he puts it. After all, what did the system do except make life harder than it had to be, and ruin Tonpelli in the process, and for what? Ladders? So it's with a bitter sort of tinge that he finds himself actually enjoying Achilles' company. So long as it's in small doses.

Pith Samovey

[ Pretty sure she'd bleed vinegar if cut ] He saw her in passing years ago, when the Samovey scandal first broke, but then she'd disappeared into the woods, and he forgot. But after a month of following the battlefield digging graves, they've developed something of a professional acquaintanceship.

Samovey Sinew

[ Fucking Croaker ] The man isn't secretive about his past, or his direct involvement in the creation of the cyborg army. For that, Notch has little patience for the man. Unfortunately, he's also one of the few surgeons open enough to call upon for help, especially while the Free Tech-Touched were in hiding. He helped fix up his rusted limbs, but that doesn't make them friends.
