Nia comes from a town by both the sea and the forests, her father, Stéphane, owns a trading company, and owns a fleet of ships- the main one being named Flower of the Sea, which is why Nia would has the flower crest/hairpiece thing. Her mother Cailana is a moon elf, and came from a small town, Nia’s mother and father met through trade interactions or so she was told, in truth Cailana's town was being pressured into an absurdly unfair trade agreement, when they refused their town was attacked as a means of "convincing them to change their minds" their small town couldn't bear the attacks and Cailana's husband Orwal died trying to protect the town, in order to prevent further damage to the town, and potential harm to her daughter Rosamond she offered herself up as a trade negotiation to ease the burdens against the town Stéphane agreed and she became his wife. With Stéphane, Cailana had two daughters, Nia is the older sister, and Presphine is the younger sister. Nia has the more apparent elven traits, where her sister takes after her father more.  As the elder sister Nia was expected to help with the trading business, and to deal with relations, especially being a half-elf, she was often brought in for discussions when the two different races were interacting.  However, Nia didn’t enjoy this, (her sister did, but participated less as she was the younger one). Nia would often admire birds for their freedom and also longed to do as she wished, however she didn’t know what she wanted herself since she was never encouraged to grow her own desires for that sort of thing.

One night, after she discovered that she had been given to a Tiefling man named Aetmos who was practically twice her age as an arranged marriage partner in a trade deal. When walking the halls at night and finding this out, she was caught overhearing all this and the man assaulted her, using hold person to stop her from being able to move before groping her, attempting to further sexually assault her she managed to break out of the spell and run away only being able to do so by hastily cutting her hair with a small dagger she had strapped to her thigh and slashing at the man (who had had her in his grip). After escaping she left her home immediately without a word to anyone. From then on, she roamed from town to town, being more familiar with town settings then forest settings. Her kleptomania, which was manageable in the past as she could simply pay for whichever was stolen, became something she had to manage in order to not get in trouble. She was able to mostly get it under control, except for when she gained fixation on an item, which didn’t happen to often, but when it did she simply couldn't resist the desire for whichever is the subject of her fixation. (We’ve seen this IN the campaign with the rose compass). Nia also (being chaotic /good/) doesn’t like to steal from those who can’t afford her plundering, exceptions being with her fixations. She will sometimes steal things for those she becomes acquaintances with along the way.

One day she was in a tavern, kinda bored, looking for anything or one interesting. This is when Fenric entered the tavern. He wore a dragon scale around his neck as a pendent. This immediately caught Nia’s attention. Cheerfully she got up, moving her hand to his shoulder, having a small blade between her fingers she cut the necklace as she moved up. Cheerfully welcoming him and commenting on not having seen him before, she pulled back and wished him well before turning to walk away, necklace and scale safely tucked into her sleeve.  Fen however, would often worry the scale between his fingers, he went to do it unconsciously, and realized it was gone. Knowing that Nia was the only one who could have taken it, he turns and takes hold of her jacket as she tries to walk away, stopping her in her tracks. He demanded she give it back, but she claimed that she didn’t know what he was talking about, Fen didn’t buy her story and repeated himself, she gave up and gave him back the scale, trying to claim that she’d seen it on the floor and had simply picked it up. Fen didn’t buy that (and probably rolled his eyes LOL). Fen goes to leave, but Nia stops him, saying something along the lines of ‘Wait don’t leave, I could come with you.’ Fen would look at her like she was ridiculous, saying something like, ‘Why would I want that?’ to which she’d reply something like, ‘I’d be useful; besides you seem like you’ve got something going on, your average person doesn’t exactly carry around a dragon scale.’

Fen considers this and agrees to let her go with him. The two begin their travels together, Nia joining in on Fen’s cause to help him find info and such on the dragon and how to kill it. Because she finds it interesting and fun. As they travelled together, they also developed a companionship, and decided to stay together because they also enjoyed each others company. They’ve been together since the winter before we entered the campaign. Along the way they travelled in the woods a lot more since Fen was familiar, therefore familiarizing Nia along the way. During this journey they eventually opened up to each other about their pasts. They aren’t a couple, as both of their focuses are more on their personal missions, Fen on taking down the dragon, and Nia basically running from her past, joining in on Fen’s quest. They do however sleep together occasionally, though it’s not something they really talk about, they just do. Nia makes sure to take nararoot as a precaution before anything like that. Their journey for information led them to the starting town where we met Kozen, Lucky, Geth, and Zarya. Seeing that the people there weren’t exactly the best off, Nia and Fen (not that Fen is thieving at all, but would try to stop Nia generally, if he thinks it’s unfair) decide not to rob anyone, and instead to take a job. Leading up to Nia going in and joining up on the other’s job from Cylindra. Leading now to the start of her campaign.

Her personal treasure that she has from her past is her hair piece which consists of small gems or shiny things ect she picks up along the way
