The original Frog King that never cared about true love or curses.
All he cared about was being king, and he sold his soul to accomplish it.

After breaking the heart of a witch, Earle had been cursed to live the rest of his life as a lowly frog. His story is the first depicted in fairytales, but it's not completely correct.
The rule was that true love would break his curse. When a young princess who wasn't his true love kissed him, however, it only partially broke the spell. He was no longer a frog, but the magic was confused and gave him essentially immortality. That, combined with marrying into royalty, ended up giving him a better life than he'd thought.

And he did not want to give it up.

He was immortal, he shouldn't have to. So when his son was born he invented the rule that the boy should be turned into a frog when he comes of age. Only when he returns with the curse broken would he prove to be ready for the throne, and with a fitting spouse too.
It was just a bullshit rule Earle came up with, yet somehow his son returned with all the requirements met. He had to give up his precious throne, but he didn't accept defeat.

Time passed and his grandson, Balthazar, was born. When it was time for him to leave on his frog quest, Earle took advantage of the newfound emptiness in the castle and struck his son and his wife in their sleep. They were found later that morning, no one traced it to Earle. With Balthazar gone, it left him to reclaim his throne.

Yet somehow, someway, that brat returned just like his father had, and he was clever. He figured out about Earle's schemes and not only removed him from the throne but exiled him. Bent on revenge, Earle sold his soul to a demon in exchange for terrible powers. No more schemes and tricks, he was going to take his kingdom back by force.

Notes: Back on my time on Gaia there was a guild about twists on fairy tales. I took up Frog King and it kinda made me think about the True Love's Kiss trope. What if someone that wasn't the true love kissed them? It also reminded me of the end of Howl's Moving Castle with the scarecrow dude, loved that lil twist in the end. It got explored with a loophole in magic, and Earle becoming a big villain that's pretty much a Disney evil wizard.

He doesn't seem to be hiding anything, as his elegant manner never falters, however he can be short-tempered and aggressive when frustrated. All in all, he's kind of a pompous asshole.

Non-Human Abilities:
Magic - As cliche as Disney's evil wizards, Earle can use magic to do just about anything. He can conjure black fire and fly/teleport, he can control ice and even turn shadows, sometimes even animals, into monsters. However, his magic is not strong compared to other magic-users, and he can easily be defeated.
Animals - Can talk to animals and can also turn people into them.

Fun/Extra Facts:

- It wasn't just his grandson that defeated him. His actual true love kissed him to break his immortality spell, which aged Earle and pushed him into summoning the demon.

- Part of the reason for Earle's thirst for revenge is to also get back his true love. He hates them, but mostly hates how he loves them.

- The demon Earle made the deal with changed who his true love was.

- Since it's not technically a curse, receiving a kiss from his new true love wouldn't take away his powers.

- Before selling his soul changed his appearance, Earle had green hair and green eyes.

- Knows Dutch, German, Italian, French, and English.

- Wants to rule the world after getting back his kingdom.

- Would actually make a pretty decent leader.

- His kingdom has invisible borders, meaning it's not shown on a map and doesn't appear to exist to humans, but non-humans know well about it. His kingdom lies in Germany, and the royalty there serves as magical representatives for that country.

- Strangely drawn to polka music.

- This man does NOT care about frogs.

- Allegretto's killer.
