Profile

When I mention on my profile that I make AU versions of characters that are so distinct from their official counterparts that they're practically OCs, this guy is one of my examples.

Commander Uranus was originally conceived as a part of a roleplay storyline I did with a group of friends on Twitter, where Team Galactic was reborn under the name "Genesis Galactic". I'll spare the details because eventually the storyline fizzled out, but the bottom line is I got attached to Uranus and re-hauled him as a character after I'd learned the storyline wasn't to continue.

Commander Uranus is a version of Blue Oak from an alternate timeline where he tragically lost Red and Leaf, and it completely changed him as a person (this is where the "practically an OC" part comes in because he is completely different from the Blue we all know and love).

Full backstory:

TW:: DEATH, NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES

In this timeline, after becoming a gym leader, Blue developed a tendency to bury himself in his work for the gym, and research conducted for Professor Oak. One day, while Blue was absorbed in his work, his friends went mysteriously missing after promising to climb the towering Mt. Silver and train to be at the best of their game. After weeks on end of hearing nothing back from them, Blue braved freezing cold to climb the mountain himself and find them. After a few hiccups in his climb (falling, getting attacked by angry Pokemon), eventually he happened upon the top, where he finally found his friends. They were wounded, frozen to death. Unable to process the events, Blue panicked and saved their Pokemon, still in their Pokeballs, escaped the mountain and ran away, abandoning his job as a gym leader, and abandoning his home region of Kanto. Somewhere in the ocean between Johto and Alola, whild Surfing with his Blastoise, he fell into an Ultra Wormhole that dropped him into the snowy tundra of Sinnoh (Blastoise is okay dw). Though this blurs and twists memory of his past life, two key things remain sharp in his mind: His love for researching Pokemon, and his love for Red and Leaf. Eventually Blue was found by Charon, who was in the middle of conducting field research on ice type Pokemon. Quote-on-quote "sensing" something about him that could be useful to Team Galactic, Charon took him in to Galactic HQ, where he would don the name Uranus and show promise with his biological and behavioral knowledge about Pokemon. He would initially join the ranks as a research scientist for Team Galactic, before years of promotion would lead him to reaching Commander status. As Commander now, he oversees the science and research departments of Team Galactic. His master plan in working with Team Galactic is to study the nature of time and space, and eventually harness the power of the Pokemon to bring Red and Leaf back / travel back in time and space to prevent their deaths.

Personality:

Outwardly, Uranus is quiet, melancholic, and sometimes he is robotic in the way he expresses himself. He naturally speaks low and quietly, and never sounds sure of himself. His stare is often unchanging, always looking flat and tired. He's often somewhat annoyed and lethargic. Inwardly though, Uranus is a very different man, turned insane with a desire of altering the past and rewriting his mistakes. An initial understandable wish of wanting to go back in time and save Red and Leaf from their untimely fate on Mt. Silver and protect them from further harm has over the years turned into cold obsession, the kind that would cause him to harm anyone who comes in his way of it (not kill though. probably. you don't know). Though his sad, unassuming appearance isn't exactly an act, Uranus uses it to his advantage sometimes to manipulate others. He's very smart and can be incredibly calculating. If he had the desire to, he could successfully overthrow Cyrus as a boss and command Team Galactic himself. However, he wouldn't care to.

As cold and deranged as Uranus may be, he is not without care or empathy. Consumed by guilt of what happened to Red and Leaf, believing it's his fault for "failing to protect them", Uranus cannot find it in himself to not care about other people, and to not hear them when they're emotional. Any rash decision he would consider making could be easily swayed by the tears of someone he is at least on acquaintance level with. He cares deeply for Pokemon as well, taking care to be delicate with them in his research on them, and speaking to unfamiliar ones almost like they're one of his partners. Half of his own Pokemon team is comprised of former Pokemon of Red and Leaf's (his Charizard, Espeon, and Parasect) and the rest of their Pokemon are simply cared for by him, not being used in battle.

Notes:

- Uranus works with Saturn often, and Saturn is likely Uranus' closest companion within Team Galactic, one who he often bonds with as a friend as opposed to having a more robotic, strictly-business co-worker dynamic as he does with Team Galactic's other members. Uranus was formerly close with Charon, having felt he saved his life and in a way being Charon's prodigy, but the longer Uranus had been in Galactic the more Uranus came to kind of hate him.

- Uranus likes computers, and is very technologically savvy, often being the go-to guy when it comes to technological problems at HQ. Makes you wonder if had things not turned out this way, if he would go into the IT Department at your local PokeMart. Sad!

- One thing that often plagues Uranus regarding Red and Leaf's deaths is that he had always secretly harbored feelings for the two of them and he never got a chance to confess.

- He would be around the same age as Blue is theorized to be in Pokemon Sun & Moon, in his late 20s to early 30s.

- Uranus has a few health problems, including frequent migraines and asthma. He's sensitive to extreme temperatures.

- He's bisexual. Love wins
